I have yellow marks on teeth How get rid from it?
I think its is cause of fluoride mixd water
Suggest what should I do?
Hello. When brushing twice a day and flossing doesn't help improve your yellow teeth, it's time to consider other options. Teeth become yellow due to stains – both deep and surface-level – as well as other causes that sometimes aren't under our control. Although coffee and cigarettes leave stains on your teeth over time, thin tooth enamel also makes teeth look yellow. Tooth enamel is the hard, white surface of your teeth, and underneath it is a pale brown substance called dentin. Thick enamel looks white, but thin enamel allows dentin tones to show through, making teeth look yellow from the outside. Enamel naturally wears thin as people age, but acids from foods and drinks such as sour candies, oranges and soda also thin the enamel by eroding its surface. Saliva neutralizes acid and washes it away, but people suffering from dry mouth miss out on this protective effect. Other causes of yellow teeth include antibiotic use or excessive fluoride intake in young children, which can cause yellow-stained adult teeth later. Treatments for certain conditions can also affect tooth color. For example, head and neck radiation and chemotherapy can cause teeth discoloration. In addition, certain infections in pregnant mothers can cause tooth discoloration in the infant by affecting enamel development. Certain medication, mouth rinses can also causes yellow staining. Preventing Yellow Teeth: Avoiding smoking, coffee and soda helps prevent yellow teeth, or you can get into the habit of drinking those darker beverages through a straw. Drink milk or plain water after eating or drinking something acidic to help reduce the acid's eroding effect. Brushing and flossing also help, and avoiding snacks between meals allows your saliva to dilute the acids in your mouth too. Using over-the-counter whitening agents will also helps. Discolorations are generally responsive to bleaching procedures.

Consult a Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon. For dry mouth, consider chewing sugar-free gum or sucking on sugar-free candies to help stimulate salivary flow. There also are artificial saliva’s on the market that may help to induce salivation.

Hello Lybrate user, the good news is that healthy teeth can be moved at any age hence Orthodontic treatment (braces) can be done even at this age provided you have healthy periodontium. You are never too old to benefit from Orthodontic treatment. Visit an Orthodontist to discuss further.

Halitosis (bad smell from mouth/breath) 1.Halitosis could be due to poor oral hygiene/ Gingivitis/Caries tooth/ smoking/tobacco chewing/dry mouth/ sinusitis 2. Maintain good oral hygiene by brushing your teeth twice daily, clean tongue thoroughly 3. Rinse your mouth with Hexidine/Betadine mouth wash 2-3 times daily 4. Avoid smoking/chewing tobacco if any 5. Use dental flush to clean food particle stuck in between teeth 6.Consult dentist for examination of oral cavity and follow advice and treatment accordingly.

If you wear dentures, general rule is to: brush, soak, brush. Always clean your dentures over a bowl of water or a folded towel in case you drop them. Brush your dentures before soaking, to help remove any food debris. Using an effervescent denture cleaner will help remove stubborn stains and leave your denture feeling fresher.

Does scaling or cleaning of teeth to make them white by a dentist can create sensitivity or pain in my teeth.

BDS, MDS
Dentist, Gorakhpur
Does scaling or cleaning of teeth to make them white by a dentist can create sensitivity or pain in my teeth.
Not at all. It may cause pain or sensitivity only when it was present before the treatment. In some rare cases if the tooth or teeth are already compromised.

My dentist affirms that no food particle is left behind but still I feel the pain when I press the gum and decaying smell persists remedy please.

Dear , if the decay has been ther since a long time - it is called chronic - and chronic involvements of the pulp take longer to heal. I would advise you to brush - after breakfast and after dinner - and undertake multiple warm saline mouthrinses- 10 to 15 glasses a day. Your problem should gradually subside in few days. If not do get back on the same forum. Wil do our best to help you. If the problem subsides do proceed for a crown and that would further help in avoiding food impaction between teeth.

Hello lybrate-user. The white patches if can be scrapped off and leave a red surface beneath them may be candidiasis (which is a form of fungal infection) please consult a dental specialist to know the cause. Till then use candid mouth paint. Take 20-30 drops on tongue and swish in whole moth for 2-3 minutes. Use it 4-5 times a day for 2 weeks. The fungal infection shows your immunity is compromised. Please consult a dentist and a physician to know the exact cause.

My teeth becoming gap from one tooth to other and day after day the gap is increasing. What do you recommend?

Dentist, Gurgaon
My teeth becoming gap from one tooth to other and day after day the gap is increasing. What do you recommend?
Hello lybrate-user, this spacing can be due to any missing teeth in the arch which has not been replaced with a prosthesis because teeth have the tendency to move towards vacant spaces or it may be due to gum problems. Kindly visit a dentist, what you need now is an ortho treatment.
