Yes you have Diabetes. There is no doubt about it. You have to consult an endocrinologist for a diet chart specifically suited for you and you need to take medicines as per his advice. It is very important for you to get your HbA1c<6.5% as you are young. That would be possible only when your fasting is <100 mg/dl and 2 hour post meal glucose is <140 mg/dl.

What is the longtime effect of synthetic thyroxine How can I come out of symptoms fully like muscle cramps. Foot becomes red. Blood .is it due to metabolism. Is synthetic thyroid is not used properly. Is it due diet. I stopped eating cabbage. Cauliflower.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. When on treatment with levothyroxine TSH should be maintained <3 mU/L to be totally free from all the symptoms of hypothyroidism. Please tell me whether your weight was same before being diagnosed with hypothyroidism? Because at the time of diagnosis TSH was 100 mU/L, means you must have been having the condition for a long time and that has contributed for excess weight gain. Now you have a BMI of 31.66 kgs/M2 (normal <23 kgs). The dosage that you were taking it self appears less that that was needed. Only soy beans and soy containing products need to be avoided. Plus there has to be a restricted diet giving calories based on your ideal body weight (55 kgs). Plus you will have to exercise regularly for at least one hour every day. Dosage of thyroxine has to be properly calculated. Thanks.

Hi Mr. Lybrate-user, taking only medicines is not the solution towards controlling your sugar levels. For controlling your diabetes you have to follow proper diet, do some brisk walk along with medicines. These all 3 will work together and you will get to kwow how fit you can be. Controlling diabetes are important as fluctuations of sugar levels can cause many other problems also like heart problems, kidney disorder, etc. You need to follow a proper diet plan so that your sugar levels will be in normal range. There are some general guidelines you must follow till you consult for your own diet chart. 1. Avoid sugars. 2. Avoid simple carbohydrates like maida and its products, white rice etc 3. Have complex carbohydrates like whole wheat flour chapatis, oats, dalia, brown rice etc. 4. Avoid banana, chiku, mango, grapes. 5. Avoid fruits juices. 6. Avoid potatoes, sweet potato, arbi. 7. Have more salads and other vegetables. 8. Have small and frequent meals.

Hello, professor, first thing is try reduce weight by at least 5 to 8%. Your ideal body weight should be (177.5 - 100 = 77.5 x 0.9= about 70 ks). Reduction in weight itself will correct raised blood glucose level. So please exercise daily (brisk walking for 1 hour a day), take restricted diet, giving calories based on ideal body weight, extent of daily exercise. If you are not on treatment for diabetes then with the levels shown it looks like a pre - diabetes situation, which can be brought under control by adapting above mentioned methods. Thanks.

lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Milk drinking is not prohibited in patients with hypothyroidism. You can take as much as you desire. Only thing is high fat cheese is not good. Even milk with low fat or without creme should be taken. Thanks.

lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. A person in pre-diabetes state has to adapt a modified lifestyle, if he wants to postpone developing diabetes or preventing it. That means he should refrain from sweets, pastries, bakery items, foods made from maida, fruits like mango, banana, chikkoo, grapes. Dark chocolate is supposed to be good but without sugar in it. In your case with a BMI of 28.4 kgs/M2 (normal <23 kgs/M2), with a good deal of excess weight, you need to be more careful. Reason being one of the main cause for precipitating diabetes is excess weight second is inactivity. Thanks.

Mr. lybrate-user, If TSH is very low (0.004 mU/L), then you may consider reducing the dose of thyroxine by 12.5 mcg, then check TSH after 6 weeks. Ideally TSH should be maintained between 3 to 4 mU/L to be free from symptoms of hypothyroidism. Thanks.

A Holistic Approach To Fertility

DNB (Obstetrics and Gynecology), MBBS

A Holistic Approach To Fertility

A Holistic Approach To Fertility

We have various associations and provides a supportive, personal and holistic approach. The different therapies include yoga, meditation. Each offers a different method of help and can be used in conjunction to conventional and evidence-based treatments, providing many benefits as part of an integrated health plan.

Couples who combine their IVF treatment with these therapies frequently report they feel calmer, emotionally stronger, and more able to cope with the demands of the IVF regimen, and importantly, feel more hopeful about the outcome.

Research has examined the interplay between fertility and environmental and lifestyle factors as well as the impact of specific complementary therapies.

Herbal Medicine, Supplements and Naturopathy

Herbal medicines and supplements can increase fertility, however they can also interact with drugs you may have been prescribed if undergoing IVF treatment and if used incorrectly, they can interfere with your fertility and chances of success.

We work closely with expert Naturopaths who are highly experienced in this area.

Herbal medicines should only be used in between IVF cycles and discontinued at the beginning of an IVF cycle.

Physical benefits of complementary therapies:

A healthy diet along with exercise helps to build a strong foundation for pregnancy and improved fertility.

Complementary therapies such as acupuncture, herbal medicine, meditation and yoga can help regulate your menstrual cycle, improve fertility, vitality and boost ovulation.

Improved health before conception can help enhance the quality of sperm and egg, lower the rate of miscarriage and increase fertility.

Emotional benefits of complementary therapies:

Infertility can cause great emotional stress, anxiety and pressure on couples.

Holistic care can be helpful in lowering your anxiety and dealing with emotional stress while also increasing the chances of conception.

We are here to support you!

You may experience intense feelings and stress at various times on your journey from initial contact right through to becoming a parent. We understand and our entire team is committed to supporting you and helping you to cope as effectively as possible.

We believe that Counselors can be an integral part of your journey providing additional one-on-one support when you need it.

Whether you need a little extra support as an individual or with your partner, We are always there for you.

We are all here to help guide you through your medical treatment, the uncertainty of the outcomes and can provide advice and assistance in dealing with family, friends, work and the fertile world during this time.

We believe in comprehensive care for the body, mind, emotions and spirit and will ensure you receive the best possible advice on the most appropriate complementary support for you.

Can Complementary Therapies support fertility?

Many people use complementary or alternative therapies to improve their overall physical and emotional health. This could include medicines, such as herbal, vitamin, mineral, homoeopathic, nutritional and other supplements, and therapies such as , chiropractic, naturopathy, osteopathy, acupuncture, homoeopathy, reflexology and aromatherapy.

There is limited evidence of the beneficial impact of complementary and alternative medicines and therapies on fertility. While improving your general health is clearly beneficial, we do not routinely recommend their use to improve your chance of conception.

If you would like to try alternative therapies while also seeking medical support for conception, it is important that you tell your doctor. While some complementary medicines may interfere with fertility treatments, acupuncture and vitamin supplements are generally not considered to be incompatible with treatments.

Actually, there's no specific hypothyroidism diet.

Your diet has to be well balanced with fruits, vegetables, whole grains, dairy, nuts etc. Your hormonal vibrancy is improved only if your diet is balanced and not lacking in essential nutrients.
Crash dieting or diet fads will only further lower your metabolism and help further fat gain and hormonal imbalance.

If you have hypothyroidism, take thyroid hormone medication as directed by your physician — generally with an empty stomach. The reason being that too much dietary fiber, food supplements and other medications and some foods can impair the absorption of synthetic thyroid hormone.

Avoid taking your thyroid hormone at the same time as:

Walnuts, Soybean flour, iron or calcium rich foods and supplements or multivitamins, antacids, some ulcer medications and cholesterol-lowering drugs.

To avoid potential interactions, eat these foods or use these products an hour before or after you take your thyroid medication.
