Usually the improvement in hypoxic brain injury is not very good. These patients stay on ventilation until they start breathing on their own properly.

I am aged 53 years, female, obese. My height is approx 5"4 cm. Had a total hip replacement. I need to reduce my weigh as I weigh nearly 100kg. Please advice my diet plan. I go for 30 mts morning walk daily.

Weight reduction can not be done over night. You have to take it as a way of life. Do diet control. No sugar in tea, coffee, milk etc. No sweets take small frequent feeds. When you get used to it, skip one meal. You should do non weight bearing yoga exercises.

(a) sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. (b) use no pillow under the head. (c) kindly take biod3 max 1 tab dailyx10 paracetamol 250mg od & sos x5days (d) do back (spine)/shoulder/knee exercises (e) make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take (f) do not ignore it. It could be beginning of a serious problem. (g) if no relief in 4_5 days, then contact me again.

What is your body weight and height? is it within normal limit of healthy bmi 23 kg per metre square? home remedies: take fresh vegetables, fresh fruits, dairy products (not butter and cheese) like yogurt daily. If you are non-vegetarian take small fishes daily and chew the fish bone well. Or easier way is take b complex and vit d supplements, do exercise daily, take healthy food with restricted fat and carbohydrate.

Back pain is very common after having a baby. It' s mostly due to hormonal changes during pregnancy and having to carry a baby for nine months. Even after the baby is born the mother does not get sufficient rest to recover from it. She needs good physiotherapy which will help her to get back in shape and reduce her pain. Consult your local orthopedic surgeon for medicines. A lumbo-sacral belt helps. You need to take care of her right now or this pain might stay for a lifetime.

Massage with your thumbs from the mid points of the shoulder blades on both sides towards the lower back of your head up to lower level of the ears. Use oil or water for massage. Rotate your head clockwise and anticlockwise, forward and down, left and right a few times. Do for 5 to 10 times morning and evening. Give pressure the dipping point on the portion between the thumb and the index finger on the back of the palm. Press and release for 15 times where the pain is more. This will solve the problem. Further do some wrist rotation exercise. Inform after 5 days.

Hi I am 27 years female. I delivered a baby in dec 2013. Since than I am suffering from severe back ache. Mine was normal delivery without any extra medication. Please suggest. My physio exercise is ongoing but the moment I discontinue it my pain starts again. I got mri done. It was also normal.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You are very young to have a persistent back pain as a health issue. If you have localized back pain with no other symptoms like radiating leg pain, neurological symptoms like numbness, weakness, paresthesias etc, then you can start with following recommendations for initial period of 2-3 weeks: - to maintain proper posture of your back while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or paracetamol or one which suits you - physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied if your pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home - analgesic spray for local application can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc we will observe you for next 2-3 weeks how you respond to this conservative management protocol. If you are not feeling better, then we will have to get some investigations like dynamic x rays of lower back and few blood tests for evaluation. Also it will be good if you can send me your mri images and report as an attachment. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. Thanks & regards

Piriformis stretch 1. Lie on your back. 2. Cross your left leg over your right so that your left ankle rests on your right knee. 3. Use your hands to grab hold of your left knee and pull it gently toward the opposite shoulder. 4. Hold for 15 to 30 seconds. 5. Relax, and then repeat with the other leg. 6. Repeat this cycle 2 to 4 times.

When do you know that one of your discs from the spine has been slipped off from its original position? Here are some conditions and cases, as per our knowledge and these are different from low back and neck. First let’s talk about the neck; it’s more upper and closer to the brain!

Giddiness, Pain travelling in the arms, pain and tenderness in the cardiac region of chest and certainly you can have numbness and tingling sensations in your hands- all this is not about any of the heart problems, always! These are the most common signs and symptoms of the cervical disc compression and in most the cases patients reached to us with some complaints of cardiac problems in all such cases.

Besides this, other patients start feeling that they have something in their brain and they would have gone for MRI or CAT SCAN of Brain for the same condition because of severe headache and giddiness with some nausea along with these!

Why does the pain reflect on the different locations?

When the disc compresses any segment of the spinal cord or one of the nerves emerging from the part, the nerve will carry the sensation, without any external trigger for the pain or burning sensation in the area, supplied by that part of the spine or corresponding nerves. Certainly, if nerves are tingling these will affect the muscles for sure, supplied by the same nerves.

When this condition appears in neck, it will affect the parts supplied by the cervical nerves which emerge from between – C1-C2/ C2-C3/ C4-C4/ C4-C5/ C5-C6/C6-C7/C7-C8 or C8-T1 vertebral bodies. These nerves from cervical region supplies to the muscles of head, upper back, arms, neck itself, chest region and sides of the chest. So wherever the supply goes, pain appears in the corresponding regions.

Same is the story of the lower back well known as Lumbar Region or Lumbo-sacral region of the spine. Nerves emerging from the lumbar region, supply to the lower limbs up to the toe, lower back and

The symptoms of a herniated disc: symptoms will be according to the location. The mostly affected areas are cervical region (neck); and lumber region (lower back).

When it is in neck region the symptoms will be as follows:

  • Pain which may radiate in arms.
  • Numbness/ tingling sensation in arms
  • Stiffness in neck
  • Difficulty in neck movements
  • Headache and giddiness, specially, while rising from bed

Symptoms of herniated disc in lower back are:

  • Pain in lower back which radiates into one or both legs
  • Numbness or tingling or sensation of in areas of one or both legs
  • Stiffness in lower back
  • Pain increases if fellow remains in same posture for long time period.
  • Muscle weakness or wasting of muscle mass in certain muscles of one or both legs
  • Loss of the reflexes in one or both legs

Depending on the nerve affected by the herniated disc the location of above said symptoms will differ and not surprisingly, both the areas of the spine might be effected at a single time, because vertebral column is a unit, certainly it will behave like a unit. If you wish to discuss any specific problem, you can consult an ayurveda.

Hip Extension •This exercise will help with strengthening the hip joint and muscles. •This will improve the ability to walk and propel yourself forward or up stairs.

Muscular fatigue may have caused by exercises. Pl limit exercises. Bath with hot water after gentle massage with Mahavishgarbh oil warmed a bit. Drink turmeric in hot milk twice a day. Avoid loss of semen by sex or masturbation for some time or increase your semen by herbs.

Ayurvedic Remedies For Joint Pain!

Joints are intersections between bones; they provide support to your body during movement. There are a host of conditions which might lead to joint pain; they are bursitis, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and gout. The most common joint pain disorders are knee pain, hip pain and shoulder pain. 

Ayurveda associates joint pain with loss of bone density in the joints. This problem is characterized by a feeling of discomfort and cracking sounds. If the condition is not treated, it might lead to immobilization of the joint. The condition of the bones tends to deteriorate as they do not receive enough nutrition. 

The other cause that leads to joint pain is toxin accumulation in the joints. As the toxin accumulates, it leads to heavy and stiff joints. If preventive measures are not taken on time, continuous accumulation of toxins may lead to swollen joints. 

The various Ayurvedic remedies for joint pain are:

  1. Diet: Focus on eating foods especially that are salty, sour and sweet in taste. Add healthy foods such as rye and quinoa along with ghee as they pacify the "vata" in your body. Focus on natural foods such as vegetables and fruits to your diet.
  2. Herbs: Certain herbs such as turmeric help to treat joint pain. It contains curcumin that has anti-inflammatory properties which help in reducing the pain. You may also consume fenugreek seeds for its antioxidant content and anti-inflammatory properties. 
  3. Lifestyle Changes: Make sure you exercise on a daily basis, do basic bodyweight exercises such as push-ups and squats to improve your strength. You may also start with yoga workouts to build flexibility and mobility in your body.
  4. Smoking and Alcohol: Limit smoking and alcohol consumption to keep your body healthy, and free from free radical damage. Alcohol may also cause you to put on weight, thus leading to obesity. Smoking may cause various problems in the lungs that may lead to breathing disorders. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an Ayurveda.
