Hello Anubhav, The red itchy patches that yo are referring to can be due to some allergy and some more information will be required about it to evaluate the reason. If it is only allergy related, it can be reduced and can even stop.

Hey doctor I want to know the symptoms of mumps? What are the precautions to be taken? Would be great if you help me out. Please do it fast.

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
Homeopath, Ludhiana
The symptoms of mumps usually develop 14 to 25 days after becoming infected with the mumps virus (this delay is known as the incubation period). The average incubation period is around 17 days. Swelling of the parotid glands is the most common symptom of mumps. The parotid glands are a pair of glands responsible for producing saliva. They're located in either side of your face, just below your ears. Both glands are usually affected by the swelling, although only one gland can be affected. The swelling can cause pain, tenderness and difficulty with swallowing.More general symptoms often develop a few days before the parotid glands swell. These can include: • headache • joint pain • feeling sick • dry mouth • mild abdominal pain • feeling tired • loss of appetite • a high temperature (fever) of 38C (100.4F), or above In about one in three cases, mumps doesn't cause any noticeable symptoms. To help prevent spreading the virus, anyone with mumps should be kept away from school, university or work until five days after symptoms begin. The same precautions used in cold and flu prevention help stop mumps from spreading: proper hand washing and using a tissue to catch sneezes, then putting it in a bin straight afterwards. If someone has already had mumps as a child, they usually have lifelong immunity, although second infections have been known. The number of children having the MMR ( measles, mumps and rubella) jab fell for some time after a false scare about safety of the vaccine - which was later discredited. As a result of this, there are teenagers and young adults who didn’t have the vaccine in childhood who are at risk if they don’t get a catch-up jab. Vaccination against mumps may also be advised for unvaccinated adults travelling to parts of the world where it is more common.

As I am having psoriasis since 13 years. I'm feeling so depressed.. What will be the best treatment for it.?

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS), Diploma in Dermatology
Ayurveda, Faridabad
Hii lybrate-user, as you are having psoriasis problem since last 13 years, psoriasis is genetic disorder triggered due to stressful conditions and irregular life style. We are treating psoriasis using ayurvedic medicines. Psoriasis has three stages. First stage is when disease remain on skin and there are scaly patches. Second stage comes when there is pitting on nails and in last stage it enter the joints and there is pain in small joints. Generally patient use steroidal application on patches which give temporary relief and disease reappear after 2/3 days. In severe cases methotrexate is used which is not a safer option and is liver toxic. Ayurveda has got a complete remedy for psoriasis. It is a safer option and can be used for longer duration without any side effects. Ayurvedic external application give very quick results with sun exposure in clearing the scales and internal treatment does not allow the disease to re appear. Psoriasis is a manageable disease and can be managed with ease and effectively using ayurveda. You should use 3 gms of haldi with milk helps in psoriasis patients.

I have pimples on my face due to this summer. I used so many creams for this. What should I do?

BHMS
Homeopath,
Dear lybrate user, pimples/ acne vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory skin disease which develops due to blocking of the hair follicles in skin. These blockages occur due to 4 abnormal processes: 1) excess sebum production due to androgens 2) excessive deposition of the protein keratin leading to comedone formation 3) infection of propionibacterium acnes (p. Acnes) bacteria on the hair follicles 4) local release of pro-inflammatory chemicals in the skin. Neither can you stop the overproduction of androgen or keratin protein nor can you stop the release of pro-inflammatory chemicals because all these processes takes place internally in your skin. However you can stop the accumulation of p. Acnes bacteria on your skin by preventing your skin from getting oily. Always keep a handkerchief with you wherever you go outside. You should wipe off the slightest amount of sweat from your face as soon as you perspire on entering your room from outside wash your face with an oil-free, non-moisturizing face wash. Take a low carbohydrate diet. Do some exercise daily. Drink a lots of water to avoid constipation. Avoid pricking the pimples or popping the sebum as it may lead to black pigmentation & permanent scar formation. You can also take homoeopathic calcarea phos 200, 5 drops, thrice daily, in empty stomach also you can apply homoeopathic mother tincture berberis aquifolium q on the dark spots on your skin which are produced after the resolution of the pimples.

What is the reason for stretch marks? I m going to gym. And how to remove this stretch marks?

BHMS
Homeopath, Faridabad
Hello, They are caused by tearing of the dermis, which over time may diminish, but will not disappear completely. Stretch marks are often the result of the rapid stretching of the skin associated with rapid growth or rapid weight changes. There's no way to prevent stretch marks. There are no products on the market that can prevent them, Creams that claim to work on stretch marks are applied to the external layer of skin. But they won't reach the layer underneath, which is the part that stretches. So There's no need to spend lots of money on creams and lotions. Make your Own Stretch Marks Removing Lotion:-For this, mix ¼ cup aloe vera gel and ½ cup extra virgin oil. Break open 6 Vitamin E capsules and 3-4 Vitamin A capsules and add the liquid to the oil and gel mixture. Mix all the ingredients and store it in a bottle. This is your natural lotion to remove stretch marks. Keep this bottle in the refrigerator. Apply daily on the stretch marks. Shake the bottle before use.

M.Sc - Dietitics / Nutrition
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Bangalore
3 common reasons on why your losing your hair.

Lack of protein

If you don't get enough protein in your diet, your body may ration protein by shutting down hair growth. This can happen about two to three months after a drop in protein intake, they say.

What to do: There are many great sources of protein, including fish, meat, and eggs. If you don't eat meat or animal products, here are a few soya, panner, cheese, yogurt, beans etc

Dramatic weight loss

Sudden weight loss can result in thinning hair. This could happen even if the weight loss is ultimately good for you. It?s possible that the weight loss itself is stressing your body or that not eating right can result in vitamin or mineral deficiencies.

Overstyling

Vigorous styling and hair treatments over the years can cause your hair to fall out. Examples of extreme styling include tight braids, hair weaves or corn rows as well as chemical relaxers to straighten your hair, hot-oil treatments or any kind of harsh chemical or high heat. Because these practices can actually affect the hair root, your hair might not grow back.
