The type of treatment you have for toothache /sensitivity/swelling will depend on the cause of the pain, so your dentist will examine your mouth and may carry out an X-ray to try to identify the problem. •If your toothache / sensitivity/swelling is caused by tooth decay, your dentist will remove the decayed area and replace it with a filling. •If your toothache / sensitivity/swelling is caused by a loose or broken filling, the filling will be taken out, any decay will be removed and a new filling put in place. •If the pulp inside your tooth is infected, you may need root canal treatment. This procedure involves removing the infected pulp and then inserting a special type of filling to seal the tooth and prevent re-infection. •If your toothache / sensitivity/swelling can't be treated using these methods, or if your tooth is impacted (wedged between another tooth and your jaw), it may need to be removed.

Hello Mr. Lybrate-user gum boils are not a sign of cancer and proper diagnosis had to be done and professional oral cleaning is recommended at least once a year, your gum pigmentation or blackness can be removed by a well trained periodontist by lasers or surgical procedure.

•Eat a healthy, balanced diet and avoid eating strongly flavoured or spicy food. •Cut down on sugary food and drink, as it can increase the amount of bacteria in your mouth. •Reduce your alcohol consumption. •Stop smoking. •Cut down on coffee. •Drink plenty of water to help prevent your mouth becoming dry. •Chew sugar-free gum after eating, to stimulate the flow of saliva. This will help clean away any remaining food particles. •Don't use toothpaste to clean your dentures, as it can scratch the surface and cause stains. •Clean your dentures thoroughly using soap and lukewarm water, denture cream or a denture-cleaning tablet. •Use a separate toothbrush to clean your dentures. •Make sure you visit your dentist for regular check-ups. Having regular dental check-ups will ensure that any plaque is removed from your teeth, particularly in areas that are difficult to reach. •Your dentist can recommend the best way to clean your teeth and gums, and point out areas you might be missing. They can also identify any signs of gum disease and ensure early treatment. •Gastritis, lung & sinus infection may also be the cause of bad smell in the mouth. 90% of bad breath is due to a dirty tongue. •If your bad breath is caused by a gastrointestinal problem, such as an H. Pylori infection or gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD), you may be referred to a gastroenterologist. •Persistent bad breath or a bad taste in the mouth may be a warning sign of gum (periodontal) disease. Gum disease is caused by the buildup of plaque on teeth. •You may need deep cleaning & fill tooth cavities with artificial enamel filling. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with a mouth wash until then. Advance procedures can be done with laser too.

Hello, visit a dentist and get your scaling and polishing done. You can also ask for bleaching or whitening. As a home remedy you can apply baking soda or strawberry crush for some time for white teeth. Brush twice a day, floss regularly. Rinse after every meal. Visit your dentist every 6 months.

I had RCT for right side lower teeth 5. After one month, I started feeling extreme bad pain which was not fully going even after painkiller. I immediately visited dentist who said a rice size extra small teeth between teeth 4 and 5 is giving me the pain so he extracted that. Next day he released pressure of RCT tooth. It kept paining so today he removed crown and have appointment for tuesday that he will remove RCT material and leave tooth with medicine. Immediately after cap removal, I got a lump behind the teeth which kept increasing in size and right now it's a pea size. I need to understand the reason of this lump which came within last five hours immediately after crown removal. How it will be treated? Do I need to redo RCT or just pus drain or extraction or just antibiotics will help.

Hi lybrate-user, I can understand you had gone through a lot, but don't worry this infection is gonna subside. Mostly after root canal treatment a patient complains of pain due to two reasons either failed root canal or food impaction due to defective crown. The way you described the pain, I mean the intensity of pain suggests failed root canal, may be due to missed canal or due to improper sterilisation. This swelling is due to accumulation of pus, and most probably a gingival abcess due to some calculus or the cement with which the crown was fixed has gone in between the gums and teeth. Well xray would have given a clear picture, though I would say go for re-rct with a course of antibiotics. No need to drain the pus, swelling will subside after the course of antibiotic. Hope this helps.
