I am a OCD patient since 3 years. I take nexito20 once in a day. Last 8 months I was properly well without any symptoms. But from last 10 days my symptoms have been returned. Why my symptoms are backed again? Is it medicine failureness? Should I stop medicine?

You cannot recover easily with medication alone. You also need therapy. In therapy you will learn a lot of skills and techniques to deal with the OCD. Meet with a counselor first and then if that person recommends a psychiatrist to deal with this issue, do visit one as soon as possible. Please take your parents with you to determine the possible developmental issues that may have contributed to this condition. This is a fear-based condition and for some reason you have not been dealing with this childhood fear which has now developed unto these repetitive adaptations to seem to need it for normal functioning. The behavior will then become based on magical thinking and certain rituals will become necessary to do normal things making you believe that either the frequency or the ritual is important to its success. This of course is a fallacy but there will come a time that even if told the truth, your belief will defy any logic and you will continue behaving like that even if it cripples you in your daily routines. It only appears as though some other force is behind these behaviors and that you are compelled to act in this fashion. That is obviously not true but no one can convince you of anything different. The obsession is a repeating thought pattern with no meaningful outcome; and the compulsiveness is the need to act on those obsessions also in a repeated behavior pattern as though you just cannot help yourself. This is all driven by fear and when you are frustrated with it, you will escalate anger over it. Doubt, insecurity, uncertainty, and lack of firm memory will all plague you and increase stress. There are certain behavioral techniques to be implemented and if they work you may get out of this condition rather easily. If that does not work as desired, then medication has to be introduced, and in combination with counseling much work can be achieved.

How to monitor withdrawal symptoms of alcohol like vomiting ,loss of appetite? L stopped drinking alcohol. And I am suffering from withdrawal symptoms.

MD - Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Chennai
Alcohol dependence involves intense craving or desire to drink alcohol. People drink for pleasure or rationalize it on external factors like family problems, work tension, etc. They drink continuously, i.e. Almost daily or even weekly once or twice with withdrawal symptoms, tolerance, bodily damage, etc. Due to alcohol they and/ or others are affected significantly. You need to consult a psychiatrist and go for 3 steps of de addiction. 1st is detoxification, when alcohol is stopped and the withdrawal is made smooth with minimal discomfort, 2 nd is maintenance and further deaddiction when the physical problems and psychological state of the individual is maintained and anti-craving drugs started 3 rd rehabilitation, when relapse prevention is the goal, while maintaining deaddiction. All the best.

Eating sweets made of white sugar can create problems as you grow older. To reduce sweet craving, eat more natural sweets like dates, resins, honey and jaggery based items. Eat more natural food like salads and sprouts. It will reduce your sweet craving slowly.

Medications - How They Help In Treating Psychiatric Issues?

Medications - How They Help In Treating Psychiatric Issues?

What are antidepressants and mood elevators?

Often depression or mood changes are caused by the imbalance of neurotransmitters in the brain. Anti-depressants or mood elevators are medications that are prescribed to patients with depression to alleviate their symptoms. Anti-depressants are not solely used for the treatment of depression, it is also prescribed in other psychiatric conditions which includes anxiety disorders, social anxiety disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), dysthymia (mild chronic depression) etc.

With time, the use of anti-depressants has been on the rise. Although, anti-depressants do not cure your depression, it relieves the symptoms of the same. Anti-depressants come in various types. The first one you try may not benefit you; however you must consult your doctor and find the right choice of medication for your condition.

Anti-depressant adherence
Non-adherence to anti-depressants can have major consequences on your health. It also majorly contributes to the under treatment of anxiety and depression in maximum cases in the population. The reasons why people do not comply with their therapy or treatment are various; forgetting to take the medicine being the primary one.

Other factors that contribute to non-adherence of anti-depressants include, fear of addiction, high cost of medications, fear of drug-induced sexual dysfunction, delayed onset of action of the medication, poor instructions and protocols given by the doctor and fear of side effects.

Adherence to the medication with proper guidance from the doctor has seen to decrease the symptoms of depression in the patients, leading them get back to their normal life. Under-treatment of depression can become fatal. If the depression escalates, suicidal tendencies can follow. Apart from these, suddenly stopping the medication has been associated with withdrawal symptoms which can get fatal in severe cases. In recent times, depression has become a common problem with the rise of fatalities caused by depression. As important as it may be to consult a doctor to get your symptoms diagnosed and get the right treatment, it is of equal importance that one adheres to the therapy and abides by the guidelines.

Psychiatrist don't allow more than 10 min. Or so and if there psychotic disorder, counsellors recommend psychiatrist. People are afraid that psychiatrist prescribe medicines which slows down brain, induces sleep, and make you slow and sluggish.

What details you have provided is totally inadequate to give advice All these are lifestyle issues which require a diet and lifestyle solution and never medicines. What mistake doctors are doing is that they are treating the symptoms like anxiety, depression by medication by putting a temporary band aid fix instead of treating the root cause which is a permanent fix the patient is also equally responsible because he does not read up and blindly believes the Dr. who might have vested interests to get more money from commissions from Labs, scan centers and pharma companies. Serotonin, dopamine which are the feel good hormones are made in your gut so if you do not feed good stuff to your gut you will not be making good bacteria which will reduce the production of these hormones and you will have anxiety and depression symptoms so instead of treating your gut the psychiatrist who has zero knowledge of nutrition prescribes you medicines which are addictive and create new illness which he never explains and you never ask also plus vitamin deficiencies and certain mineral deficiencies also cause depression so detailed testing is required .Do the right tests, and get the right advice from the right Dr. who takes time to address your problem. Take a consult after sharing name and working number and get educated and never medicated. You cannot fix your health without fixing your diet.
