These tests tell the condition of the heart at the moment. It is not possible to rule out if blockages are there and whether those blockages are significant with Echo and ECG unless a herat attack has already happened or is happening. A TMT or a Stress Echo has a higher probability of suggestive if there are blockages which may be harmful. So you can get either of tests done if you are over-concerned.

Causes of Infertility in Females

Common Cause of Infertility in Females

For pregnancy to occur, every part of the complex human reproduction process has to take place just right. The steps in this process are as follows:

• One of the two ovaries releases a mature egg.

• The egg is picked up by the fallopian tube.

• Sperm swim up the cervix, through the uterus and into the fallopian tube to reach the egg for fertilization.

• The fertilized egg travels down the fallopian tube to the uterus.
• The fertilized egg implants and grows in the uterus.

Vegetables are Wonderful for Maintaining Healthy Skin

Vegetables are Wonderful for Maintaining Healthy Skin

Vegetables are wonderful for maintaining healthy skin
10 reasons why you should include cucumber to your diet

Cucumbers are said to have the following benefits: Potential antidiabetic, antioxidant activity, cleansing action of toxins and waste, soothing effect against skin irritation, and prevention of constipation. And here are 10 health benefits of cucumbers in more details.

1. Help you stay hydrated

Cucumbers are 95.2 percent water, which means that a 5-ounce serving contains 4.8 ounces or 150 ml water. That’s already about 26 percent of your daily water intake through food.

2. Support heart health

Cucumbers contain potassium (152mg per cup), which can help lower blood pressure. A review of the best studies conducted on potassium intake showed that a higher intake “is associated with lower rates of stroke and might also reduce the risk of total cardiovascular disease.”

3. Protect your brain from neurological diseases

An anti-inflammatory substance called fisetin is present in cucumbers, as well as strawberries  and grapes

It has recently been suggested that fisetin plays an important role in brain health: It would have “the ability to reduce the impact of age-related neurological diseases on brain function,” and it would also help maintain cognitive function in people with Alzeimer’s disease.

4. Protect your skin against the effects of aging

There is a reason why cucumbers are used in skin care: They have been shown to be effective as a potential anti-wrinkle agent in cosmetic products, protecting our skin form the effects of aging.

5. Fight inflammation in the body and reduce the risk of Cancer.

Cucumbers can help lower the inflammatory response in the body. They contain polyphenols called lignans, which can potentially reduce the risk of certain cancers and cardiovascular diseases.

They also contain plant nutrients called cucurbitacins, which have anti-cancer properties: “Scientists have already determined that several different signaling pathways required for cancer cell development and survival can be blocked by activity of cucurbitacins”.

6. Relieve Pain

Flavonoids, which are anti-inflammatory substances, and tannins in cucumbers have both been shown to limit the release of free radicals in the body and to reduce pain.

As explained in the Journal of Young Pharmacists, “traditionally, this plant is used for headaches; the seeds are cooling and diuretic, the fruit juice is used as a nutritive and as a demulcent in anti-acne  lotions.”

7. Reduce bad breath

Bad breath  is usually caused by bacteria in the mouth. Fiber and water-rich vegetables  like cucumbers can boost your mouth’s saliva production, which in turn helps wash away the bacteria that cause the odor in the mouth.

8. Protect your bones

Cucumber are a good source of vitamin K: One cup contains 22 percent of the recommended daily intake of vitamin K. This vitamin is essential for bone health, as low vitamin K intakes have been associated with a higher risk for bone fracture. Vitamin K is also important for improving calcium absorption in the bones.

9. Prevent constipation

Cucumbers are rich in water, and their skin contains insoluble fiber. Both water and fiber help food to move through the digestive tract quicker and more easily, helping prevent constipation.

10. Maintain a healthy weight

Cucumbers are very low in calories (16 calories per cup) and they also contain fiber in the skin. And foods that contain fiber can help maintain a healthy weight.

Eat Your Food Like Medicine

Who in this world doesn’t want to look good and feel good?

Everyone wants to look best and be healthy, no one likes to be sick and everyone loves to feel good and look beautiful, slim and trim.

The most important factor, which makes us look good and feel good, is food. We get energy from food, we look healthy when we eat good food, and we look good if we eat properly and proportionately.

Hence, food is the most important factor in our life and without it we cannot survive. Diet is the most important part of our life; our diet is what we eat every day.

Today I am going to tell you about the importance of proper diet & food and tips to consume for fit and healthy life.

Diet is very important if you want to reduce weight because weight loss is 80% diet and 20% sweat. Working out alone is not going to help you reduce your weight. I do not deny the fact that exercise helps to reduce weight, but diet plays a much more important role in weight loss.

If you want to be healthy then make sure that, you eat a well nourished and well-proportioned diet as too much of something is not good. If you eat too much then you will become obese which will lead to all kinds of health problems like blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, arthritis, back ache, etc.

I remember reading a beautiful quote, which goes like, “Eat your food like your medicines or else you will eat your medicines like food”.

The above quote is indeed true and gives a very good message, so watch what you eat.

Avoid processed and canned food because, they are filled with sugar and salt, which act like preservatives and are very bad for health. The fresh packaged fruit juices, which we drink contains high amounts of sugar and the frozen food and other ketchup’s and sauces, which we consume, are filled with fat, MSG, sugar and salt, which are quite dangerous to our health.

Make sure that you include lots of fruits and vegetables in your diet and avoid oil as much as possible. Fruits and vegetables help to detoxify your system and oil is necessary for our body to function but too much of oil is very bad. Make sure that you fast at least once a month to give rest to your digestive system.

Hence, these are some of the tips, which you ought to follow to eat your way to a healthy life.

Weight Loss With Hypothyroidism

Weight Loss With Hypothyroidism

Thyroid and weight loss

Losing weight with hypothyroidism is a challenging task. All those with hypo thyroid and weight loss on their mind, go for a very low calorie diet which can further lower the body’s metabolism, worsening the problem. Hence the correct approach is needed.

Keep a check on your thyroid levels: remember the answer to your weight loss question is solving the reason for weight gain. If you have a thyroid problem and weight loss is your goal, you must keep a check on your thyroid levels. Take your medications regularly and keep your levels as close to the normal range as possible. And you will see your weight coming to normal. Check your thyroid levels every 3-4 months, or at least once in 6 months.

Increase your activity: lowered metabolism is the main hurdle for those struggling with thyroid and weight loss. Increasing the activity levels through exercise will help in increasing the metabolism. Increase your activity levels by including a 30-45 minutes exercise session, be it walking, yoga, tai chi, swimming, cycling or gymming. Take the stairs every time you have to climb up or down. Short medium paced walks after your meals will be beneficial too.

Increase your water and fibre intake:

Hypothyroidism can cause chronic constipation, water retention and edema. Increasing water and fibre intake will help in regularizing bowel movements. Increased water consumption will also help in flushing out your lymphatic system, further helping water retention problems.

Increase selenium intake: to supplement selenium in your diet, include bran, whole wheat, tuna, onions and tomatoes in your diet.

Increase iodine intake: increasing iodine intake will help in improving the thyroid functions. Eat iodized salt. If your doctor advises, go in for iodine supplements as well.

Increase your metabolism: the key for thyroid and weight loss is increasing your metabolism. Here are some tips on how you can do that.

i] Have 5-6 mini meals – Small and frequent meals helps in reducing the sugar spikes and balance the blood sugar level. This will help in avoiding hunger pangs. Small frequent meals help by keeping the digestive system on the go. It helps in burning more involuntary calories and prevents storage of fat.

ii] Green tea – Drinking green tea will increase the metabolic rate and your energy levels. Hypothyroidism makes you feel tired and fatigued all the time. Green tea will help in decreasing the stress levels and will give you the most needed energy kick.

iii] Warm water and lemon – A glass of warm water and lemon early in the morning and after your main meals will help you in keeping the metabolism rate up through out the day.

Thyroid and weight loss:-

Foods to eat: Include a lot of carrots, whole grain cereals, avocado, apricots, fish, asparagus, olive oil and sunflower seeds.

Foods to avoid: Eat less of broccoli, lima beans, cabbage, peanuts, sweet potato, mustard, kale, kohlrabi, linseed and soy products. These foods may interfere with iodine uptake in the body. Don’t cut these foods out completely, just keep these to a minimum.

Whether the excess weight comes from thyroid or other hormonal issues, the key to weight loss is to correct the underlying condition while monitoring your diet, eating the right things and avoiding what’s wrong and exercising. A healthy lifestyle since the very beginning is the solution to every weight related problem, including thyroid and weight loss.

Isabgol Health Benefits

Isabgol Health Benefits

Isabgol health benefits

Here are some health benefits that this super food has to offer.

Relives constipation

The hygroscopic nature of the soluble fiber in isabgol helps in absorbing moisture and swelling up to form soft stools. The insoluble fiber in isabgol helps by providing enough roughage to the wastes and takes it towards the intestine. Together they make the elimination of the waste easy and painless.

How to consume – in case of constipation, isabgol is mostly consumed with warm milk. Milk is high in residue and thus together with isabgol acts as a wonderful remedy to relieve constipation effectively.
If you have severe constipation, add 2 tsp isabgol in a bowl with 1/ tsp sugar, and add warm milk to it, it will thicken and become sticky, you need to intake this at bedtime. In cases where constipation is not very severe or where stools are passed regularly but are hard, mix 1 tsp isabgol in warm milk.

Helps in diarrhoea

Yes it is hard to believe that isabgol can help in both extreme conditions of digestive system. This effect is due to the soluble fiber in isabgol. The soluble fiber absorbs the water in intestine and swells up to bind the loose stools.

How to consume – add 2 tsp isabgol to 3 tsp curd, mix well and eat it twice a day after eating food. The probiotics in the curd helps in healing and recovering from stomach infections.

Helps in weight loss

Fighting hunger is a big challenge while on a weight loss diet. Isabgol helps in reaching satiety. It makes you feel full. And also helps in cleaning the gut. While on weight loss, the body seems to be producing a lot of waste products due to the fat burning process. The sudden increase in intake of raw foods may be a little heavy on digestion and may cause constipation and flatulence. It is important to clear this waste from the body to remain healthy and feel fit. Taking isabgol every day will help in weight loss.

How to consume – isabgol can be consumed with a glass of warm water and lemon early in the morning or just before your main meals. This will help you reaching satiety (the feeling of fullness) early, and naturally reduce your food intake.

Boosts digestion

If you suffer from indigestion on a regular basis and are experiencing on and off episodes of constipation and diarrhoea, isabgol is your magic wand. Isabgol helps in regularizing the bowel movement and increasing the peristalsis of waste (movement of food towards intestine).

How to consume – you can have 1 tsp of isabgol with a glass of buttermilk after your lunch. In severe cases you can have this after lunch and dinner too.

Controls cholesterol levels in blood

The soluble fiber in isabgol helps in reducing cholesterol from blood. It forms a gel with the excess cholesterol and fat in the gut and eliminates it with the wastes in the body. Not only does isabgol eliminate the excess fat, but it also helps by reducing the absorption of fat by the intestinal walls.

How to consume – isabgol can be consumed either in the morning or at night based on other problems. You can have it in any of the above mentioned ways.

Helps in diabetes

The insoluble fibre in isabgol helps in diabetes by managing hunger pangs. The soluble fiber in isabgol makes a gel with food inside the stomach and hence delays the digestion and absorption of food. This helps in keeping the sugar levels in blood near normal and does help against sugar level hikes in the blood.

How to consume – to maintain the blood sugar level, you can have 1/2 tsp – 1 tsp isabgol mixed with warm milk in a bowl. (please avoid adding sugar).
Read – 1200 calorie indian diabetic diet plan

Helps in conditions like piles and fissures

Isabgol is very helpful in conditions like piles and fissures. It helps in easy elimination of wastes by forming soft stools. Those who suffer from painful eliminations do benefit from isabgol.

How to consume – isabgol can be consumed with a glass of warm milk or warm water at bedtime.

Helps in acidity

Isabgol is a known home remedy for hyper acidity. Isabgol forms a gel with the content of stomach and protects the stomach lining by controlling the secretion of stomach acids and digestive juices.

How to consume – one can consume isabgol during an acidity episode with a cup of luke warm milk. If the acidity occurs regularly, one can continue to take this mix after meals for up to a week. The acidity episodes will surely reduce.

Isabgol is a boon to those who suffer with stomach problems, it has so many health benefits that isabgol suits to be called as a magical fiber.

Fruits Vs Vegetables - What is More Healthy?

Master of Science - Clinical Nutrition & dietetics
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Bangalore
Fruits Vs Vegetables - What is More Healthy?

It is common knowledge that fruits as well as vegetables provide you with a natural combination of large number of nutrients, which help in the overall nourishment of your body. However, there are differences that are quite noticeable. Both the categories can be further divided into subcategories:

  1. Fruits consist of
    • Fruits such as apple, mango
    • Nuts such as almonds and peanuts
    • Legumes such as garbanzo beans
  2. Vegetables consist of
    • Leaves such as lettuce and cabbage
    • Stems such as asparagus and celery
    • Buds such as broccoli
    • Roots such as carrot, radish

Even though fruits as well as vegetables contain some similar nutrients, the number of micronutrients (chemical substances which are needed for the overall development and growth of the body) are generally higher in vegetables than fruits. On the other hand, fruits tend to have more macronutrients (types of foods required ion adequate amounts in one’s diet) as compared to vegetables.

Vegetables
Micronutrients are a class of nutrients that include vitamins, minerals and some phytonutrients that are mandatory for proper health. The right concentration of micronutrients plays a major role in supporting the healthy functioning of the organs. Leafy vegetables have an abundance of micronutrients such as the various vitamins as well as iron, calcium and magnesium; they play a major role in the proper functioning of the nervous system, bones, eyes, teeth, skin, muscles, blood cells, nails as well as the immune system. Root vegetables, along with being powerhouses of minerals and vitamins like the leafy vegetables, also additionally supply carbohydrates, especially complex-carbohydrates (carbohydrates which gradually supply constant energy to the body).

Fruits
The main difference between vegetable and fruits is that fruits contain substantially higher amounts of macronutrients than vegetables. These are the energy giving and caloric components of foods. These include proteins, carbohydrates and fats. Apples, bananas, oranges and other common fruits have higher concentrations of simple carbohydrates or sugars, like fructose. Vegetables tend to have lesser levels of fructose.

Fruits vs. Vegetables
Giving preference to vegetables over other foods would help in increasing the intake of nutrients that aid good health. At the same time, it helps in reducing intake of foods with high calories. On the other hand, fruits have low levels of fat and high level of fiber and water. This is required by the body for maintaining its digestive health. Fruits also have low sodium-content and high levels of natural sugars. This makes them an adequate substitute for processed foods that contain empty calories. Fruits contain calories that are densely packed with nutrients that supply vitamins and minerals along with energy.

All in all a balanced mix of both of them is highly recommended as one cannot substitute the requirement another fulfills. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a dietitian-nutritionist.

Everything You Need to Know About Dentures

Dentist, Gurgaon
Everything You Need to Know About Dentures

Teeth may be lost due to various reasons - decay, periodontal disease, age, trauma, etc. Whatever the reason, losing a tooth causes some side effects, as noted below:

  1. Reduced chewing efficiency, thereby affecting nutrition
  2. Aesthetics, more effect if front teeth are lost
  3. Structural support to the face - puckering can happen
  4. Overall nutrition affected

For someone who has lost a tooth or teeth, dentures are a boon. There are various options for people, and choice can be made based on economic, cosmetic, and overall health conditions.

Options:
Partial/complete: If only one or few teeth are being replaced, it is a partial denture. This can be fixed or removable. In case of old age or trauma where all teeth are lost, a complete denture would be in order. In most cases, this is a removable denture.

Fixed dentures/Removable dentures: Depending on whether the denture is fixed in the mouth or can be removed when not in use.

Metal or ceramic or combination: In some cases, for aesthetic or economic reasons, the patient can decide to go for a metallic fixed partial denture. The fabricated crowns will have a metallic surface but is acceptable given the strength, especially in posterior teeth, which take a heavy mastication load.

In cases of front teeth loss, the denture should almost always be a ceramic one, especially for cosmetic reasons. If the person cannot afford, a removable denture can be done.

The optimal denture should be chosen based on a number of factors including the functional and aesthetic expectations.

Caring for dentures: It depends on the types of dentures you choose.
Fixed dentures: This requires religious brushing, flossing or interdental brushing, and rinsing. The edges of the denture can put pressure on the gums and cause irritation, this needs to be watched for.

Removable dentures:

  1. Clean the dentures after every meal
  2. Be careful when handling them to avoid fall and breakage
  3. Handle the clasps with care, altered clasps may not fit properly
  4. Clean the bone and gums around the denture after each meal
  5. Soak the dentures overnight in water or a denture-soaking solution
  6. Avoid soaking it in hot water, can lead to warping of the denture plate
  7. Avoid hard brushing of the dentures

With any denture in the mouth, visit the dentist regularly every 6 months to keep a constant vigil on your overall dental health. Ill-fitting dentures, especially, need to be corrected immediately as they can lead to irritation, ulcers, and even infections.

With these small precautions, the denture can function to its optimal level and serve as a good replacement of the lost tooth.

Difficulty in Swallowing - Are You at Risk of Dysphagia?

Swallowing food comes naturally to human beings. But when there is a problem, it is usually called Dysphagia. Esophagus, a muscular tube-like organ located at the back of our throat, usually helps in swallowing food and transferring them to our stomach. When esophagus does not function properly, dysphagia happens. Patients suffering from brain or nerve disorder, seniors and babies might have this problem.

People with dysphagia might witness the following issues:

  • Difficulty in swallowing solids and liquids.
  • Gaging, choking or coughing usually occurs when trying to swallow.
  • Experience pain when trying to swallow and also heartburn.
  • Swallowed food might come back up either through mouth or nose.
  • A chronic problem might result in weight loss.

Causes:
There are 2 main reasons, why the Esophagus might become dysfunctional.

  1. Due to some medical condition the muscles and nerves that help the esophagus work have stopped working.

There can be a number of reasons for both the condition. Here are the reasons why the muscles and nerves might not work.
Certain diseases can create problems with your nervous system, which in turn can affect the esophagus. These diseases are polio, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, Parkinson’s disease.

  1. A brain stroke, spinal cord injury or brain injury can also affect swallowing.
  2. Polymyositis or Dermatomyositis are immune system problems that can cause swelling or weakness.

  4. Scleroderma causes the esophagus to become thin and weak.

The esophagus might be blocked because of these reasons:

  1. Esophagus might have malignant or non-malignant tumours.
  2. Esophagitis is a medical condition when the esophagus is infected, got some allergy or even if a pill got stuck on it.
