Dear Lybrate User, Sometimes on taking certain medicines like Tinidazole and Metronidazole, there occurs a metallic taste in the mouth, but that's nothing to be worried of. You must always brush your teeth at night before going to bed as the food remnants promote bacterial fermentation and that causes a bad taste in the mouth. Also you may use a mouthwash like Colgate Plax or Chlohex, once a day for 2 weeks and then feel the difference. For a more detailed investigation, you may visit a dentist. Happy Smiling!

In the month of july I suffered a severe bike accident in which my 3 front teeth got half broken which was being diagnosed by the dentist and finally teeth got the root canal treatment before getting fixed. But due to some reason I was unable to complete my treatment of getting those teeth back again after the root canal. So I would like to Know how much it will cost me to get those teeth back to normal shape and size?

Dear Lybrate User, It's very disheartening to know that you met with the freak accident. If the root canal treatment has already been initiated but not completed, you must get it completed before any infection ensues. After the root canal treatment, your teeth become more brittle due to loss of tooth structure and water content so an early crowning/bridging becomes mandatory. Your dentist should be able to put those crowns or bridge on the root canal treated teeth and your smile would be fully restored. The cost per RCT should range from 2500-5000 INR and the crowns cost somewhere between 3000-15000 (per crown) depending on their quality and warranty and whether they are metallic, metal-ceramic or fully ceramic. Happy Smiling!

Dear Lybrate User, the first thing you should do is Change Your Toothbrush! Switch over to an ultrasoft or soft toothbrush and gently brush off your teeth, twice daily, without exerting too much pressure on them. Vigorous toothbrushing is the most common cause of receding gums and if you change the way you brush, you are definitely going to be benefited. Take Care!

Your history regarding pain location is not enough to provide a satisfactory answer. If your left jaw (considering left lower jaw is paing without any dental or oral problem, even your age is 30 but a cardiac pain can't be rulled out (angina pectoris) so be specific. It can be as simple as exercise related sprain. Thank You.

Dear lybrate-user. Its a complex interplay of stress, immunity & viruses (sometimes). There are no great therapies which could permanently cure. However a thorough assessment of health with physical examination by your doctor to rule out things like vit B deficiency, Vit D deficiency, your immune status, Oral hygiene status etc. May help in solving your problem. Take care.

Hi I recently asked what will happen if some tissue paper is left inside teeth while filling. Most of the doctors said that the filling will fall out. I want to know why will the filling fall out even when the filling is put in layers and the tissue paper is at the bottom beneath all the layers of filling. Thank you.

Most important factor for filling to stay in place is bonding. Bonding can either be chemical with the help of bonding agents used for composite fillings or directly of the cement like glass ionomer with the tooth surface. It varies from one cement material to another. In your case it is hard to understand why tissue paper was left? In this case tissue paper fibers will interfere with the bonding and definitelt increase the chance of failure of restoration.

As long as root is intact and broken part of tooth has not involved the canal system of the tooth, any dentist will do the needful. Specialist is needed when prognosis is poor. Sometimes only option remains is extraction of the tooth, that also any dentist will do. So you decide accordingly. THANK YOU.

Please come to the point how to diagnose what are the tests I can go through. I am not aware the reason for my bad breath for the last 15 years Have spoken to end number of doctors. But no one is giving any precise answer. I repeat, Please tell me what are the test I can do to diagnose the real issue Please help.

BDS
Dentist, Bangalore
Bad breath is due to accumalation of volatile sulfur compounds. These are produced by anerobic bacteria. VSC- methyl mercaptan and hydrogen sulfide intake of high protein foods or certain foods may increase or worsen it. If your toungue has a white coating. It is the simplest indicator of bad breath. Usually to detect these there is a device called hallimeter. But I am have never heard of any indian dentist using this device as halimeter is not required to investigate and is simply waste of money. You can contact an oral pathologist and if really interested to get it actually detected. Ask them to collect your plaque samples and conduct a BANA test. (benzoyl arginine naphthalamide) to detect anerobic bacteria presence. This is usually not done in regular practices. As halitosis or bad breatb is easily detected.

A white patch associated with syphilis specifically in the tertiary stage of the infection. It is not considered a type of leukoplakia in true senses, since the causative agent treponema pallidum is well known. It is now rare, but when syphilis was more common, this white patch usually appeared on the top surface of the tongue and carried a high risk of malignant transformation. Regarding this patch in your mouth, you can't remove it forcefully. Also it is not going to stay there forever. Best is to take plenty of vitamins (A, C, E, minerals (zinc, selenium) and antioxidants and wait till white patch disappears. Visit a specialist every two months or if you find any abnormal change in the lesion. It may take 6 months to one or two years in some cases to completely get rid of the problem. Have patience. Do not use soda powder it won't help. Thank You.

Diabetes And Oral Health Care!

If you are a diabetic patient and your blood glucose levels are poorly controlled, you are more likely to develop serious gum disease and lose more teeth than non-diabetics. Like all other infections, serious gum diseases may contribute towards rise in blood sugar and may make diabetes harder to control.
Other oral problems associated with diabetes include - candidiasis (thrush), and dry mouth which can cause soreness of mouth, oral ulcers, various infections, teeth cavities and bad breath.

Prevention
First of all, control your blood glucose level by exercise, diet, oral medicines or insulin. Then, take good care of your teeth and gums, along with regular checkups every six months. To control candidiasis, use candid mouth paint and maintain good diabetic control, avoid smoking and, if you wear dentures, remove and clean dentures daily. Good blood glucose control can also help prevent or relieve dry mouth caused by diabetes. Use chlorhexidine mouthwash for 15 days and continue with diluted listerine mouthwash for months. It will prevent bad breath problem.

How to remove small gap between two teeth, every time I eat something then I have to remove it manually.

Dentist, Delhi
How to remove small gap between two teeth, every time I eat something then I have to remove it manually.
A dental floss is the best aid for cleaning of interdental spaces. If the gap is so much that the floss is loose in that space then you can opt for an interdental brush. Keep in mind that if the cause of food lodgment is decay or fracture of your teeth then, these aids are of no help and you will have to get the cause removed. A filling or cap may suffice if the cause is decay or fracture. please consult your doc fr proper diagnosis and treatment planning.
