Obesity is a common nutritional disorder that has resulted into stress among people of all age groups. The mushrooming of slimming centers, weight loss pills and diet plans in the recent past are all pointers of how people are disturbed by obesity. The condition results from excess accumulation of fats in the body as a result of excess intake of food. When you take an excess of 50 calories in a day, you are said to increase weight by 25 kgs within a ten-year period. While scientists largely attribute the cause for the condition to intake of excess food, studies also reveal that genes could play a significant role too. There is no cure for obesity but a method that is slowly gaining popularity for countering obesity successfully is homeopathy.

Homeopathic Medicines

For many years now, homeopathy has been used as a mode of treatment for obesity across many countries in the world. The mode of treatment usually is constitutional and needs a detailed case history of the patient and evaluation so that the best remedy can be selected...

  1. Calcarea Carbonica is a homeopathic medicine that is administered when a patient has excess fat in their abdomen. The constitutional symptoms are profuse perspirations on the head, low tolerance for cold air and strange cravings like desire to eat chalk.
  2. Natrum Mur is used for patients with excess of weight in their thighs and buttocks. Excessive heat and intolerance towards sun are the constitutional symptoms for this homeopathic medicine.
  3. Lycopodium is used similar to the natrum Mur. However, here the constitutional symptoms vary in that they are used on patients suffering from gastric troubles. Patients have a liking for hot food and sweet stuff. These are just a few examples.

Other Methods for Weight Loss:

Childhood obesity is a serious condition plaguing many adolescents and children these days. Obesity brings along with it a plethora of health scares such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes, all of which at a point of time were confined only to adults. Obesity in children also results in depression and self-esteem issues. Too much of calorie consumption accompanied by a sedentary lifestyle and other hormonal or genetic factors contribute to obesity in children.

Overcoming Childhood Obesity-

  1. Healthy Eating: Consider opting for vegetables and fruits over high-calorie and fatty foods such as crackers, cookies or other processed foods. Cut out on the intake of sweetened beverages that makes your child too full to grab other healthy foods. Encourage sitting together for a family meal and initiating interaction rather than turning on the TV or other electronic gadgets. Allow your child to decide his/her proportion of food and never over feed. This habit should be inculcated in the child since the formative years.

  2. Engaging in Physical Activity: Make sure and talk your child into not spending more than two hours sitting glued to the TV set or the computer on a daily basis. Rather, egg him/her on to go out in the open and enjoy the day underneath the sun. Try and start building in your child the habits of exercising and staying active right from the beginning. This will go a long way in deciding your child’s health and overall fitness in the future. Remember! Morning shows the day. And it’s up to you to structure out your child’s ‘morning’.

Quick Tips For Parents-

Encourage:

  1. Play time or physical activities in ways that your child enjoys, such as going for a walk or hike, playing at the park, playing sports, dancing or going for a bike ride (and join them!)

  2. Healthy home-packed lunches

  3. Drinking more water and eating whole vegetables

  4. Eating when you are truly hungry, not when you’re bored, mad, stressed, etc.

  5. Eating together as a family

  6. Decreased meal sizes

  7. Focus on health rather than taste

Discourage:

  1. Too much screen time

  2. Eating while watching TV or other screens

  3. Eating out

  4. Negative food cues and triggers by removing them

  5. Skipping meals if you are hungry

  6. Eating if you are not hungry

  7. Eating by the clock (you should eat when you’re truly hungry)

  8. Too much sugary drinks (sodas and fruit drinks)

Try to combine different exercises for best results. Every day you should be doing 40-60 minutes of exercise to include walking, jogging and climbing stairs. First up need to check for the thyroid problem. Then have some change in u r food pattern and check. Sudden increase in weight mainly will be due to Increase or decrease of Thyroid hormones.

Please avoid buying such Quick Weight Loss medicines/gadgets which are advertised on internet / TV. These are all gimmicks for which you will spend unnecessary money and time but no results. Eat light food, less sugars, less fats, less oil. Eat more fruits, vegetables, salads. This kind of diet is good for body. Metabolism is decided by the activity and exercise you do. If you are more active and exercise more then your metabolism will go up. Food does not increase/decrease metabolism.
