Don't ignore your health. Do reverse mentoring. Anxiety and negativity try to kill you. Be ready to fight back with present. More and more care for your health. Eat well sleep well. Away from type D personality people who always talk about helplessness. Say no to those who came to share their problems with you. Come in action to revert the thought and do some act of kindness.

Can Genetics be the Reason Behind Schizophrenia?

Schizophrenia is a psychiatric disorder in which a person’s mood, knowledge, thought and several other characteristics gets disturbed. We can notice most of the adults and old people with few symptoms of schizophrenia, which are most commonly left unidentified. The exact cause of schizophrenia is not yet known. The person feels that they are being constantly watched, they feel the presence of someone or something, which is not actually there. They are always suspicious and think that other people are gossiping and thinking about them.

Possible causes of Schizophrenia
Though the exact cause of schizophrenia is not known there are few factors, which contribute to the cause of schizophrenia.

  1. Genetic factors: People with a family history of schizophrenia are at higher risk of getting schizophrenia.
  2. Environmental factors: Environmental factors include excessive stress during pregnancy or later stages of life. Several other factors during pregnancy and childhood are responsible for causing schizophrenia. These factors are:
    1. Decreased oxygen level during delivery due to premature birth or prolonged labour
    2. Parental loss or separation in early stages of life
    3. Parental exposure to virus or during infancy
    4. Childhood physical or sexual abuse
    5. Abnormal brain structures and brain chemistry

Sings and symptoms of schizophrenia

  1. Hallucination: To see, feel or hear anything that really does not exist is known as hallucination.
  2. Delusion: A thought or belief of a person, which is either false or impossible in reality is known as delusion.
  3. Thought and speech disturbances: The thought process and speech of a schizophrenic will be disorganized, due to which he or she  will fumble or is distracted as they are unable to align their thoughts.
  4. Difficulty in concentrating: It is difficult for people suffering from schizophrenia to concentrate on the task at hand.
  5. Erratic behaviour: People suffering from schizophrenia tend to behave erratically, either they will be too jumpy or will be perfectly still for hours at a stretch. Most people belief that those who are suffering from schizophrenia are often violent in nature, which actually is not the case.

Treatment for schizophrenia
Schizophrenia can be treated, if identified at an early stage. It is best advised to consult a psychiatrist the moment you spot the symptoms. Anti psychotic drugs, self help behaviour change, counselling and rehabilitation are few treatment modalities available for schizophrenia.

Autistic Children - 5 Effective Ways You Can Handle Them!

Autistic Children - 5 Effective Ways You Can Handle Them!

As parents, it is important that you should arrange for an early intervention if you notice that your child is suffering from any of the below-mentioned signs as they can be an indicator of autism in your child:

  • Not being able to utter a sound even after 6 months
  • Unresponsive to stimulants, whereby the child fails to make any gestures
  • Incoherent blabbering which fails to make any sense even after the child is 24 months old

An autistic child is way more sensitive than other children. Dealing with them can be challenging for the parents but it is not impossible. To deal with an autistic child effectively, follow these tips:

  1. Early intervention is a must: As soon as you detect that your child is suffering from autism, seek help. There are various methods to treat autism like behavior therapy, speech-language therapy, play-based therapy, occupational therapy amongst others. As parents, you have to figure out which therapy is better for your child or to which therapy is your child responding to. Based on your observation and the evaluation of the therapist, you need to engage your child and encourage changes.
  2. Repeat at home what your child learns at school: Often an autistic child learns certain skills at the school but fails to apply them in other environments, both social and personal. You need to get acquainted with the kinds of therapeutic methods that are being taught to him/her and repeat them in your home or within a social milieu to encourage proper implementation.
  3. Reward them: An autistic child needs a lot of support from the parents in order to function in a healthy manner. Therefore, reward his/her positive behaviors with items that the child cherishes, like his/her favorite toys or stickers. Show the child that you care, in whichever way you find it fit.
  4. Observe the body language of your child: Autistic children will make certain gestures to convey their feelings. You need to observe your child and understand what kind of stimulus irks him/her and what kind of stimulus makes him/her happy. Based on your observation you need to keep your child away from negative spurs and bring in more positive impetuses in his/her life.
  5. Engage your child in recreational activities: An autistic child is no different from a normal child as far as his/her need for fun time is concerned. Maintain your child’s schedule regularly and allocate time for recreational activities, most preferably games. Let your child mix with other autistic children. A happy disposition will help your child turn his/her obstacles into opportunities.

I have been going through a lot of stress and depression since past 4 years. I don't know my mom used to hit me a lot before because I used to back answer them. I have stopped sharing things with my parents. I have developed a lot of anger and I don't talk properly to them often. Neither they do talk to me properly. They don't understand me I feel. I have to work hard always on explaining my point but still could not convince them. I have developed so many trust issues with them even when they are good to me. I have no friends and no family support. What do I do? I am scared of sharing with my parents anything because they would taunt me and won't even try to understand and if I back answer I would be hit .i don't know what to do .All I do is keep crying and fall asleep. I have no close person to talk to or make my parents understand. What should I do?

Dear Lybrate user See we all need energy to stay active to do our work effectively without being fatigued lethargic without lacking interest in them. Since you have been suffering from depression it is contributing in this situation of yours. Many times there are other unwanted things going in our mind unwanted thoughts and all which consume our energy which we get from food which is limited. You may or may not be aware of these things consuming your energy. Also this is habitual and we develop patterns and our life goes according to these patterns. And most importantly our minset gets changed into a unhealthy mindset and all our thinking beliefs behavior is dependent on our mindset. I strongly recommend you to have psychotherapy. We have seen many such cases where the productive was hampered to a great extent. Contact me for more information regarding this. Good luck. Take care.

Hello, Dr. I had been masturbating obsessively, for the last for more than 30 years since my teenage time. I continue doing so even after marriage. I never had the erection problem, and I have two sons. But, during my school days, I used to lose my memory and developed shaky hands while writing. I could not write in a legible and stable manner. Hand used to shake, I used to look lazy, lethargic and fidgetty. But somehow I have managed due to good diet basically non-veg diet. Unfortunately, I suppose the side effects of my masturbation has affected my siblings, who have less concentration in studies and look weak, spite of good diet. One of my siblings developed shaky right hand and started losing focus and concentration and left the answer papers blank in examinations, after 10th Std. Now he has been diagnosed with psychosis (ONS) and is on Aripiprazole 30 mg. His hand shake still continues, along with other side effects of medicine. He started showing aggression and violence. Now, he stopped aggression, but the medicine does not help him in his personal life, like studies, concentration, focus, memory, etc. Still keeps wandering in the house, aimlessly, unable to sit or stand still, etc. What is the remedy Sir?

Hello Friend, Good that you are seeking a help here. Treatments for such problems should be a combination of medicine and psychotherapy. As you may be aware, medicines are just one part of treatment and it helps mostly in suppressing the emotions and causes side effects sometimes. So you need to start non medicine treatment plan that includes few lifestyle changes or self therapies, home remedies, excersise, dietary changes along with counseling support. Recommendation of alternative options need a detailed assessment of your current condition at both physical and mental levels to suggest. I am also an ayurveda wellness counselor and I can recommend suitable solution available in ayurveda to many such emotional imbalance. Alcohol becomes a problem if a person feels compelled to take it everyday and he suffers from withdrawl symptoms like craving, restlessnes, sweating, nausea sleep problems, anxiety etc, when ever he tries to stop it. So the actual problem is pattern of intake. If you are a social drinker then its not a problem.
