Loss of interest, decreased concentration and attention, feeling low and disturbed sleep or appetite are some of the signs of depression. Consult a psychiatrist who will assess you in detail. If you are feeling suicidal or hopeless, seek professional help immediately. Try some relaxation techniques like yoga, meditation and deep breathing. Indulge in hobbies. Spend time with people close to you.

Hello. First and foremost my deepest condolences on your loss. I would not say that it's common for people to feel what you r go in through right now. Because to be precise it's not. People get on with their lives even when their own parents are in dire straits or even. Pass away. I would just advice you to just consider what your mom. Would have advised you to. Do if your best friend would have to go through what you are go in through. Also it happens that we feel after a person who is so close to. Us as our own body passes away, we start feeling, we have no meaning to our life and we are just puppets in this big play called life. But I would suggest you to look towards the person who needs you the most. Yes your son. Just as you were inseparable with your mom. And she stood as a anchor of hope when your personal life's ship was shaking to. And fro. She steadied your ship. Same you have a moral responsibility to look after your son. Make it your aim in. Life to become a pillar of faith and hope for your son. Once you get a sense of belief to do something which can. Only be achieved by you and you alone then we get the necessary strength to withstand any pain/loss. I would suggest you to download a book called Man's search for Meaning. Read it. It has helped me and I hope it might help you. If I have been. Of any help to you kindly give your feedback to help me serve more needy people. Tk care. God bless.

This is all a sign of deep depression and you may have to consider medication. Before that, you may meet with a counselor and see if talk therapy works for you. You cannot live like this and alienate yourself from society. We are all social animals and need each other very much. You may have depression issues from your home of o0rigin and will need to address the same. You look like you want the attention by the extent of your wanting to talk but you are obviously not concerned about the other person's willingness to continue the dialogue, which is a sign of poor emotional health. Exercise, meditation, Yoga and socializing is very important. You must force yourself to do things in order for you to feel improvement. You must go and meet with a counselor immediately and if that person advises that you meet with a doctor you must do so and cooperate to your utmost. Please visit these professionals along with your parents. In the meantime please do the following sincerely because you could resolve the problem better with good cooperation: Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber, nuts, avocado, exercise regularly, eat dark chocolate, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. I suggest you do the opposite of what this depression makes you feel like doing (actually, not doing): you will need to fight this condition. You must become active; stay upright during the daylight time; meet people; never sleep during the day, wake up by 6 am every day, play some active games, especially contact games, do physical exercises, talk to people and join some social clubs, attend Yoga classes etc. Watch sitcoms on TV or comedies and cheer yourself up. Go for excursions in groups, for outings, camps, conferences, and religious conventions. Get a pet dog and spend time training it, exercising it and relating to it. Expose yourself to some sunlight every day, at least, 30 minutes but not in the scorching heat. Whatever happens, please incorporate these three important adaptations in your life: always be responsible, be respectful, and be functional. If you did these three, lots of things will go well in life. Please pray and have faith in God to alleviate your sufferings. Don’t wait for others to help. Use your own motivation, which might be at its lowest, but persevere and win this battle. Above all to be really happy, you need to live in love and for love. Learn all about emotions and how to handle them and that will get you out of the depression rather easily and quickly. A counselor is there only to facilitate you, all the hard word must come from you, and your cooperation with that person is very critical for your success. Be positive every day and learn to be contented with what you have. Do some left brain exercises: it is the happy brain. Here are a few suggestions: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. Whatever happens please cooperate with the therapy and do not discontinue until the condition is completely resolved.

I'm 29 years old. I have a very normal work life. Stress levels are normal. I have a active physical and emotional relationship with my girlfriend that I'm too happy about. The problem is my sex life. We have a very healthy sex life but I am too sexually attracted to her and always feel like establishing Carnal relationship with my partner. It's that abnormal? Should I do anything to change it? Intimacy is what I always crave and sometimes the thought becomes unbearable. She is sexually and emotionally available for me but I don't understand the rush.

As an young adult having these thoughts and emotions can be quite normal unless it is not disturbing either of the partner. These feelings usually settle down within months. But if you feel distressed of these or your partner doesn't feel comfortable then try to divert your attention towards other like exercises and yoga.

Do you believe that the world is a hostile place and you are a victim? Are you the one who often doubts his or her abilities? If so, you might be showing signs of low self-esteem. Interestingly, self-esteem has nothing do with your actual ability or talent. Your looks, weight or skills are not responsible for your low self esteem. It largely depends upon the fact that how you value yourself.

It has been observed in most cases that self-esteem is often affected by a number of reasons, including ill-health, unpleasant memories from the past, and termination of relationships. Low self-esteem is generally marked in survivors of physical or sexual abuse, victims of racial discrimination or people who have had a traumatic past life.

If you don’t pay attention towards this issue, you might end up developing certain serious mental disorders. Low self-esteem is also the root cause behind the occurrence of mental disorders like borderline personality disorder, depression, etc. However, there is nothing to worry about it. There are certain simple things that are useful in building up your self-esteem.

Here’s all that you need to do to start believing in yourself and be confident about your capabilities:

1. Remember your strong points: Make three separate lists of your strengths; achievements and your qualities that you admire. Take help from your friends, parents and other well-wishers for preparing these lists. These lists will help you in understanding your abilities and goodness. You will be able to believe in your strengths. You must read through these lists at least once daily.

2. Be positive: Optimism and a positive approach towards life are the key to success. Your self-esteem is influenced by the fact that how you look at life. Life is not a bed of roses. It is unavoidable that you will have to face critical situations or problems in life. But, what is important is to face them with courage and a faith in your own abilities. Be positive and stop developing negative thoughts about yourself. Get rid of thoughts like ‘I am a loser’; ‘I can’t get rid of this problem’; etc.

3. Take care of your body: Your outward appearance sometimes works wonders in lifting up your inner-self and spirits. Keep yourself clean, trim your beard or hairs; cut your nails; don’t forget to floss your teeth and maintain overall personal hygiene to develop a feeling of goodness.

4. Sleep well: A good night’s sleep is essential for boosting up your self - esteem.

5. Eat right: A balanced diet is a key to good health. Eating the right food in the right way keeps your mental and physical health all right. Include minerals and vitamins in your regular meals. Avoid distractions like television or radio while taking meals.

6. Exercise: Regular workouts keep you away from mental-ill health.

7. Be cool and comfortable first: When it comes to your dressing, try to put on attires that you can carry well. Wear stuffs that you love the most.

If you are getting repeated thoughts about the same thing then it is called obsession and comes from a fear in you which may have been sown in early childhood. However, if it as repeating suggestive thought like harming yourself like you mentioned then that is of real concern. You must immediately visit a counselor and a doctor and let them diagnose and prescribe a treatment plan. You need to cooperate with both therapies to get the best results. Depending on how long this has been plaguing you, the treatment may take a longer time. The right brain tends to be negative and can likely suggest unhealthy thoughts and is very imaginative too. So some exercises to shift to left brain functioning will definitely help in the long run.

Sir I am not able to concentrate at all please give some tips to improve my concentrate power.

you are of introvert nature. there is no need to worry. nature of every individual is different. first of all stop comparing yourself with others. this will remove the inferiority complex which you are facing. in spite of others reaching you, you reach to them and start the conversation. do not worry of mistakes because the mistakes which you say happen while speaking or your gestures are not because you are lacking in knowledge but just because your nervousness. no one can make you feel inferior unless you feel so. handle every situation confidently.

Respected Sir, First of all, I would like to know if your depression is a self/google-assisted diagnosis or have you actually consulted a psychiatrist who has diagnosed depression in you. If its the former, please do consult a psychiatrist to review your symptoms and reach a diagnosis. If you have already been diagnosed with depression, are you taking any form of treatment despite which your symptoms are persisting. The natural course of a depressive episode lasts 9-12 months but in some cases persistent depressive disorder is seen which too is treatable if you get the necessary help.

Dear lybrate-user, Your brother may suffering from a Bipolar disorder or Recurrent major depressive disorder. These disorders affect anyone. It keeps coming back repeatedly, every 3 - 4 years in your brother's condition. Though it is self limiting, it is better to prevent these episodes with a mood stabiliser all through. Bipolar Disorder is like fits, epilepsy. It comes and goes. Still we need to give tablets every day. Unlike fits, bipolar disorder is a chemical illness, comes and goes slowly and the person loses only social consciousness. Most antiepilepsy drugs are used as mood stabilisers. Instead of the neurologist, take the help of a psychiatrist to prevent next episode when he is normal itself. Bipolar disorder can occur without any obvious or with very minor external problem because it is the brain chemical imbalance that causes it. It needs to be treated chemically.

Dear Lybrate user. I can understand. Studying in the morning is best. Memory and mind power depends on three aspects. Understanding, retention and recollection. Recollection is easy if your retention is proper and flawless. Retention is possible when you are able understand what you read or learn. To understand you should have concentration. Concentration comes from effective learning techniques based on creative and active learning. Physical exercise, outdoor games, entertainment, socializing coupled with systematic learning improves your memory and mind power. Vegetables, fruits and nuts are perfect for memory. Brain games like sudoku and jigsaw puzzles helps too. Avocados, Beetroots, Blueberries, Broccoli. Celery, Coconut Oil, Dark Chocolate etc are good for improving concentration and memory. I suggest online education counseling. Take care.

OCD and Depression can co-exist, from what you say OCD symptoms are under control and depressive symptoms aren't. But you have not mentioned the medications, dose and how long you have been taking. If for 6 months your taking from a psychiatrist and you do not feel significant improvement, it's wise to get a second opinion. Also give the 2nd opinion same amount of time to show results. All the best.

Hello doc. I M 31 yrs, not happily married lady for 9 years (I think or may be I M ). We live alone because of his job. I don't know what's going on in my life. Ours is a love cum arrange marriage. For some reasons (fear of pain) we haven't have sexual relationship yet. We have a lot n lot n lot of arguments n fights with each other. There is no single moment when we don't argue or fight. He is in railways so remains in Train because of his running duty schedule. He does this so that we have less fights. He drinks a lot. Whenever he is here at home he only drinks n watches TV. I know he has no affair out n he loves me a lot. But he never shows. He abuses me too, shouts on me which I can't bear. Then I also shout n then arguments start. I am also a working lady. On job, I remain happy with my school students n colleague friends. Bt as soon I come home everything changes. We don't spend time with each other at all. We don't talk much except arguments n some daily routine talks like khane me kya banau, Chai banana etc. That's it. I try to save my marriage our relationship but nothing is working out. What should I do I don't know. Fact is this also that we can't live without each other bt we don't live peacefully also. We don't have a normal married life. Consequently, I remain stressed, lost in my thoughts. Suddenly starts crying when I M alone or lost in my thoughts or I watch something emotional on TV or around me. Because we have no kids yet. I hesitate in talking with my parents n other family members as they ask about kids. Which is natural N right on their side. My family n my world has limited to only my school life my work my students. That's it. I want to extend it. I don't know how to make my life natural like other couples. Like discussing about our lives, job future, problems, solutions etc, spend quality time with each other. Which we don't do. Pls suggest what should I do? Pls Help me.

Respected Madam, Sex is an essential part of all marriages. From the info provided, I gathered that you already feel that it is your impaired sexual relationship that is the real reason behind the problems in your marriage and I would have to agree with you. The problems in your sexual relationship have to be probed in detail and it would be better if you communicated these feelings to your husband and both of you should see a psychiatrist together and get the necessary treatment/ sexual therapy required. 9 years is a long time to go on without a sexual life and children both of which are extremely important factors which maintain a happy married life. The rest of the arguments that you mentioned are part of any marriage, but decreasing the sexual tension would go a long way in reducing the number of these arguments. Personally, I believe that with appropriate help your marriage can be saved. So please communicate your feelings with your husband and both of you get the help required at the earliest.
