First of all you need to change your eating habits and life style. Do not eat spicy, fried, fatty, high protein and junk foods. Avoid eating anything atleast two hours before you  sleep. Eat lots of high Fibre diet like salad. For acute problem you can take tab pantocid DSR 40 daily empty stomach till you get relieved. You can also take gelusil syrup after food if you feel burning sensation in your stomach area.

Can I take 5 ml olive oil daily for reducing high cholesterol?

MD - Internal Medicine, MBBS
Endocrinologist,
Can I take 5 ml olive oil daily for reducing high cholesterol?
High triglycerides and cholesterol can cause atherosclerotic heart disease or narrowed coronary arteries in the heart can cause the symptoms of angina, when theheart muscle is not provided with enough oxygen to function. Decreased blood supply to the brain may be due to narrowed small arteries in the brain or because the larger carotidarteries in the neck may become blocked. This can result in a transient ischmic attack or stroke. Peripheral artery disease describes gradual narrowing of the arteries that supply the legs. During exercise , if the legs do not get enough blood supply, they can develop pain , called claudication . Other arteries in the body may also be affected by plaque buildup causing them to narrow, including the mesenteric arteries to the intestine and the renal arteries to the kidney. Change life style .do meditation, yoga, Go walk daily, do any one physically activity daily i.e.play any game., Avoid fast foods, oily foods, junk foods, alcohol, smoking, fatty foods, non-veg.,avoid stress, take plenty of water in day time. And 1 glass of water before bed at night. use flax oil, omega-3 fatty meal or cap., take .green veg., whole grain. Garlic,. Cod liver oil. Take anti cholesterol medicines .

I am a 27 year old, healthy (enough) male who has been getting intermittent, irregular and infrequent chest pains on and off for around 10 years.  During an'attack' the pain can be quite severe and sharp - I guess a bit like being stabbed. The pain is localised to the left side of my sternum and feels fairly deep (i. E. It cannot be palpated).  Attacks can last anywhere from a few seconds to a day or so, and tend to come in'clusters' that can be present for up to a week. There can be months between each cluster of attacks (if you get my drift!). Pain can sometimes be exacerbated when leaning forward, coughing, lying on my side or raising an arm (seems to always vary - and can sometimes not have any stimulates). During a'cluster' period and between attacks I can often feel a mild, underlying ache in my chest. This is easy enough to ignore however. I have had ECGs and chest xray that have all been fine, and am not affected at all during exercise - I can happily go out and run 10k with ease. Doctors have in the past ruled out gastro reflux as there was no tenderness on palpation of my stomach area, although I have sometimes thought that attack can follow a big meal and be accompanied by burping (although this may be my mind tricking me).  musculoskeletal problems have been mentioned, but why would attacks come in clusters and seemingly out of the blue?

There is sterno costal joint where a rib joins sternum. There could be arthritis of the joint. Arthritis presents normal x ray, normal ecg. Test to determine arthritis is check for tenderness. Press the joint with single finger. If it pains with medium pressure, it's arthritis. Another test is to take aspirin 2 tabs of 500 g three times a day for 3 days after food and with ranitidine, pain disappears. See an orthopedic doctor for full treatment.

Dear lybrate-user, if there is ongoing chest pain after heart attack, patient must be admitted in ccu and should be prepared for early angiography and revascularization in the form of angioplasty or surgery. It is of utmost importance to prevent further heart attack, which can be fatal and also to salvage some of the heart muscle.

How to provide relief to heart attack victim? How to know whether chest pain is for gastritis or heart failure? What ...
Dear lybrate-user, As per your information, the chest pain happens after eating. So first of all, take care to reduce / resolve the digestive causes. Chew food properly, drink adequate water, eat a lot of fruit. Resist taking any foods that are difficult to digest, cause gas, acidity. If you can clean your stomach thoroughly with an ayurvedic purgative, and go on a juice diet for 5 days. You should be able to solve this problem. However, if the problem persists, go to a cardiologist and investigate the reason with ECG, 2D Echo. Regards.

A Nine Modifiable Risk Factors for Heart Attack

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
The majority of known risk factors for heart attack disease are modifiable by specific preventive measures.

Nine potentially modifiable factors include smoking, dyslipidemia, hypertension, diabetes, abdominal obesity, psychosocial factors, regular alcohol consumption, lack of adequate fruits and vegetables in diet and sedentary lifestyle. These account for over 90 percent of the population–attributable risk of a first heart attack.

In addition, aspirin is recommended for primary prevention of heart disease for men and women whose 10–year risk of a first heart attack event is 6 percent or greater.

Smoking cessation reduces the risk of both heart attack and stroke. One year after quitting, the risk of heart attack and death from heart disease is reduced by one-half, and after several years it begins to approach that of nonsmokers.

A number of observational studies have shown a strong inverse relationship between leisure time activity and decreased risks of CVD. The Heart Care Foundation of India recommends walking 80 minutes in a day and with a speed of 80 steps per minute.
