The term Chemotherapy describes the use of a drug that is very effective in treating cancer. The procedure is done through a surgery and followed by radiation therapy so as to kill, damage or completely remove all the cancer cells that are present in a certain area of the body. Chemotherapy treatment specializes in treating the entire body by stopping or by slowing the growth of the cancer cells that are known to grow and multiply very quickly. But this treatment also harms the healthy cells that are responsible for the growth of other new cells. Chemotherapy is given through an injection, tablets or in the form of drips into the bloodstream and this further circulates all round the body to reach the cancer cells that are present in different places. However the cancer treatment usually is given in cycles that can last for one or more days or three to four weeks. Each cycle is different and generally consists of a period of four to six cycles. The cost of chemotherapy can be very expensive that usually depends on each person's diagnosis and their uniqueness of the disease. Most of the side effects that are seen with a result of the chemotherapy cancer treatment end shortly soon after the treatment is complete while some may remain for a lifetime. The drugs that are used in chemotherapy are more likely to affect the cells in the hair follicles, bone marrow, mouth, reproductive system and also the digestive system.
