Sudden Cardiac Arrest - What Should You Do?

Sudden Cardiac Arrest - What Should You Do?

A cardiac arrest can strike when a person is least expecting it. This is usually termed as a sudden cardiac arrest, which happens due to an unexpected loss of functionality of heart. Does it not make sense to know what is to be done in case one comes across a person who just had an arrest?

The most important thing is Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). It is critical for the survival of a victim of heart attack. This is to ensure that there is still some level of blood flowing to the vital organs of the body, without which death would surely be a foregone conclusion.

If you have not received a CPR training, you must do it now. This is because a lot of things can get complicated and go wrong. After all, who wants to make a bad situation worse? In case of sudden cardiac arrest one should drop down and kneel, place the palm of one hand over the back of another and then go onto to perform compressions on the chest at a rate of about a 100 to a 120 beats per minute (BPM). The elbows should be straight and the heel of the hand that is lower should be placed in the centre of the victim’s chest.

  1. Call for help: If you are at the scene, but do not know how to provide a CPR, call the emergency helpline number immediately. Medical help should not be delayed so that the cardiac arrest victim can be treated by a medical professional.
  2. CPR: In order to perform CPR, after about 30 compressions, tilt the head back and lift the chin to open the airway and give two rescue breaths. This is only if there is no normal breathing. Each breath lasts a second and the chest should rise after the first. If it does not, the procedure must be repeated again.
  3. Electric shock: An automated external defibrillator (AED) is very important when treating a cardiac arrest. If there is one available at hand, a shock should be provided prior to starting CPR.

While there may be quite a lot of stuff to take in about the procedures related to a cardiac arrest, it is surely worth remembering. After all, a life may really depend on it!

Dear, To control & maintan BP normal these are best methods to follow:.• Do physical exercise like jogging, running or brisk walk for atleast 20-30 minutes. • Maintain your cholesterol level to normal & eat least amount of butter, cream or fatty things. • Eat less amount of pickle, salt and fast food as they contain high sodium levels. • Avoid drinking alcohol and smoking. • Take less amount of caffine containing coffee, tea or cold drinks because caffine causes increase BP. • Drink 8 to 10 glass of water daily • Take 6 to 8 hrs of sleep daily. Do not take too much stress. • Do long breathing pranayams (Anulom- Vilom, Bhramari) daily for 10 - 15 minutes. I am 5 ft 9 inch male, 30 years with 93 kgs (Overweight). Currently, my BP seems to be 170/100 after multiple readings. Got cholesterol of around 240. The doctor has suggested me some medicine for cholesterol and Mexmet-25 for High BP. My question is it safe to take BP medicine at 30 years of age and can it be stopped at a later stage if BP comes down?

Raised blood pressure is not a disease in itself. It is just a sign of some underlying disorder. Homeopathy offers good prognosis for cases of essential hypertension. The treatment is based upon the cause and the totality of the case. A constitutional homoeopathic treatment will cure you permanently. You can easily take an online consultation for further treatment guidance

Mr. Lybrate-user, if a stent has been put in the coronary artery, then it is necessary to follow all the precautions given by her doctor regarding the diet. Excess fat and sugar intake is to be avoided to prevent cholesterol and ldl increase. Particularly deep fried foods, junk foods, red meat, too much of masala containing non-veg preparations should be avoided. She should consume a good deal of salads and green leafy vegetables and fruits, as well as fiber containing foods.

If you are used to having milk & egg every day without having any digestive problems, then go ahead and have it. They are good for your health. A bp of 104/80 (occasionally) is not alarming for a 51 years old like you. Try meditation, 30 mins daily & get your bp checked in the evenings, once in a month. If it is bothering you. Or else, you are fine & be relaxed!

I am now 60 years old. Last two years back my BP raised to 190 /103. I have gone to cardiac doctor. He has done some tests and all are normal. Before the tests are done, they gave me amlodac 5 mg. After 10 to 15 minutes the BP came down. During my BP raised period I couldn't find sound sleep. Then he prescribed amlodipine 5 mg, Telmisat40. From the day I am not getting sleep in night. The other doctor told me to take trika 0.25 mg. I want to avoid trika and get sound sleep as usual. Please guide me.

Your LDL cholesterol is high High levels of cholesterol in the blood can increase your risk of heart disease. Your cholesterol levels tend to rise as you get older. There are usually no signs or symptoms that you have high blood cholesterol, but it can be detected with a blood test. You are likely to have high cholesterol if members of your family have it, if you are overweight or if you eat a lot of fatty foods. You can lower your cholesterol by exercising more and eating more fruits and vegetables. You also may need to take medicine to lower your cholesterol. High LDL high cholesterol put you on a higher risk of atherosclerotic diseases and heart attacks especially if you have other is factors including hypertension diabetes or a history of smoking so I would advise you to start taking statins which are cholesterol medications the dose of which depends upon your cholesterol levels also you need to start changing your dietary habits and include a regular physical exercise at least 45 minutes a day 5 days a week into your schedule nonetheless you have to stop taking fatty and junk food good luck.
