Physiotherapist,
I am 21 year old female doctor I have a backpain problem since 2 months what do I do please help me out?
Posture is very imp. So be careful while sitting. Correct posture itself can cure your problems. Then do ex's regularly. Make body fit and healthier. Spinal flexion and extension ex's are necessary. If there is unbearable pain hot pack is good. Ift and us therapy is very effective. If you have bearable pain then go with regular ex's, timely food, fitness ex's. Keep mind stronger and tension free. Tension and stress aggravates your problem.

My mom is 45 year old and she has a regular knee pain. She walks alot I think that may be a reason behind this.

My mom is 45 year old and she has a regular knee pain.
She walks alot I think that may be a reason behind this.
Hi, knee pain might be due to degenerative process common at her age as osteolytic (breaking of bone material) activity along with harmonal changes (reduction in estrogen) occurs. Try giving her adequate calcium along with vitamin d supplementation & also she should do knee & supporting muscles strengthning exercises. If this improves her condition then continue doing same for entire life. If there is inadequate relief then visit a pain soecialist or orthopedician who can diagnose the grade of knee osteoarthritis or any other issue (such as cartilage or ligament problem) & treat further. Important thing to understand here is no one can stop the degenerative process of body, you can delay the degeration by conservative management or sometime even interventions for pain relief such as viscosupplementation, cortisone injection, prp therapy or genicular nerve block, but if degeneration wins over conservative or preventive measures than one has to go for knee replacement. Hope it helps.

I am 29 years male, I am suffering from pain in my liver and around liver, sometimes I also feel pain in my lower and upper back side of the body, and my stomach also hurts when I eat or drink something, I have a pain in my knee too, is it a symptoms of some serious disorder, please suggest me some medication or some preventive checkups so that I can make sure of my disease if I have any, thanks for your valuable time,

Diploma in Diabetology, MBBS
Endocrinologist, Mumbai
These symptoms suggest that you might be suffering from indigestion. Just watch your diet. Stop all heavy foods & try to have simple easily digestible foods like khichdi, soups etc. Have your dinner by 7 pm latest. You can try 1 tsp of castor oil at bedtime with a glass of lukewarm water. Take it for a few days. Once you are fine. Take it alternate days & then every 2-3 days. I think it will help you. But taking early dinner will solve most of your problems.

My father age is 72 yes old & last 5 days he is suffering from back waist pain. Please suggest the medicine.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You have mentioned backache as your fathers problem. We expect at this stage that spine will have certain degenerative changes but duration of pain as you have mentioned is from 5 days only. If you have only localized backache with no other associated symptoms like radiating leg pain, numbness, paresthesias etc, and no systemic symptoms like fever, loss of appetite, loss of weight etc, my advice to you for initial 2-3 weeks will be: - to maintain proper posture while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or even tab paracetamol which suits you - intensive physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied 3-4 times in a day - analgesic spray for local application like dynapar qps spray can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc if you do not improve in 2-3 weeks with this conservative management, we will need to evaluate you further in form of dynamic x rays to look for any instability as a cause for pain and some blood investigations to rule out any deficiencies etc. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

My mother has a back pain how she will cure from this disease as soon as possible?

MSc in Orhopedic Physiotherapy (UK), BPTh/BPT

My mother has a back pain how she will cure from this disease as soon as possible?
Here are some tips for how to handle your back pain: -stop normal physical activity for the first few days. This will help relieve your symptoms and reduce any swelling in the area of the pain. -Apply heat or ice to the painful area. One good method is to use ice for the first 48 to 72 hours, and then use heat. Take pain relievers medicine. --While sleeping, try lying in a curled-up, fetal position with a pillow between your legs. If you usually sleep on your back, place a pillow or rolled towel under your knees to relieve pressure. -Find a mattress with back support. A good mattress should provide support for the natural curves and alignment of the spine. Medium-firm mattresses usually provide more back pain relief than firm mattresses. -Do not perform activities that involve heavy lifting or twisting of your back for the first 6 weeks after the pain begins. -Avoid bending forward and sitting in a place for long time -Good posture plays a key role in your spine health, helping to prevent additional back and neck pain and even injuries to spinal structures. Try to be aware of your posture and make good posture part of your normal routine. -head up, shoulders back, rear tucked under -Stand and walk with correct posture -Sit with support -Lift and carry carefully -And finally, keep moving:-Maintaining a static position for too long—more than twenty or thirty minutes at a time—is hard on the back. Prolonged static posture can slowly deplete elasticity from the tissues. By simply moving—be it a change of position, a stretch, or a short walk—the tissue elasticity needed to protect your joints can be restored and the associated discomfort reduced. -Stretching and strengthening exercises are important. But, starting these exercises too soon after an injury can make your pain worse. -Some Physiotherapy treatment like IFT current can give you relief. -Consult a Physiotherapist for detail assessment and management of your back pain. Best wishes.
