5 Quick Tips For Healthy Mouths

5 Quick Tips For Healthy Mouths

Cavities and bad teeth are the most common complain of children around the world. It is never too early to start inculcating good dental habits in your child. You can begin even before your child has his or her first set of teeth. Begin by being a good example and taking care of your own teeth. Along with that, here are a few dental tips to keep a bright smile on your child's face.

  1. Get a dental check up: Your child's first visit to the dentists should be when he is she is around a year old. Even if your little one only has two teeth by this time, the dentist will be able to take a look at how the child's teeth are developing. The first dental visit should be followed by regular checkups.
  2. Check your water: Your child needs water with fluoride in it. This protects the teeth. Bottled water usually does not contain fluoride and hence should not be used to make the baby's formula or given to the baby. Additionally, ensure that the baby's mouth is cleaned of all milk residues, etc. before he or she goes to sleep.
  3. Brush teeth: Once your child has his first set of teeth, it is time to teach him how to brush them. Ideally, teeth should be brushed twice a day for two minutes each.  Use a soft bristled toothbrush for your baby with a smear of fluoridated toothpaste. Brushing your teeth with your child will give them an example to follow and make it easier for them to learn how to brush their teeth. You may introduce your child to flossing once they are 6 years old.
  4. Avoid sugar: Candy and chocolate is the leading cause of cavities in children. Sugar releases acid that takes up to half an hour to be cleaned by saliva. Thus, frequent sugary snacks can leave your child's mouth acidic for longer and make it more susceptible to cavities and tooth decay.
  5. Meal times: Maintaining regular mealtimes not only gives your baby a healthy lifestyle, but also affects their dental health. Instead of letting your child sip out of a sipper cup throughout the day, encourage him to drink a glass of juice in one sitting. Juice contains sugar and hence this has a similar effect to snacking in the day. When using a sipper cup also pay attention to the back of your child's upper front teeth. Since the sipper cup positions itself behind these teeth, this may be the first to show signs of tooth decay.

Chewing of pan masala is not good for your health even. Abstain from the habbit. Pan masala must have formed a precancerous lesion. Stop chewing immediately. Avoid spicy food. Consult a Dentist. Intake of multivitamins especially vit. B12, vit A, vit E, vit C, will help you get relieved of the condition.

We need more investigations with clinical examination to decide upon treatment. You may need deep cleaning along with surgical curettage or gum strengthening procedure. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with a mouth wash after every meals. Use pepsodent tooth paste & gum paint for 2 to 3 weeks.

In 2008 I got my right side lower jaw wisdom tooth removed next tooth root canal was done in September this year severe pain started visited dentist he took an X-Ray & said infection in root canal as it was not properly done. Re-Root canal got done but again suddenly pain started Dr. advised to take Metrogyl 400 for 5 days pain stopped, cement filling was done & Cap was fixed but from second day pain again started I visited Dentist again he says will remove cap & filling keep it open with some cement in it for few months the infection will automatically go & then he will fill & fix the cap is this procedure correct? Please advice.

Dear. This is very unfortunate that your RCT was not properly done. When root canal treatment works, it is a great treatment–a great way to save your tooth. However, in about 5% to 15% of the cases, a root canal or endodontic treatment will have failed. Right now your doctor is killing infection and bacteria using antibiotics and allowing it to become infection free before sealing it again. It is the only way left. Just get an xray done again to see if there is any extra canal that need to be sealed or a sinus have developed. Continue with your medications.

Does bone grafting or guided tissue regeneration procedures need to undergo dental surgery

MDS - Periodontics
Dentist, Thane
Does bone grafting or guided tissue regeneration procedures need to undergo dental surgery
Not all dental procedures require guided tissue regeneration (gtr). It is only indicated when we need to grow bone or any other tissue if there is any defect present. Generally this is done in periodontal flap procedure. Guided bone regeneration is generally attempted when you have something called as" angular defect" or a" vertical defect" in the bone.

The simplest method of removing minor surface stains is polishing, or micro-abrasion if staining is more intrinsic. Provided that your discolouration is not due to inadequate enamel exposing the dentin, tooth whitening (bleaching) is often the most effective treatment for yellow stained teeth. Advance procedures can be done with laser. Use snowdent tooth paste for whitening until then. Apply snowdent paste on the teeth. Wait for 10 to 15 min. Then brush your teeth with the same paste. Applying it overnight for better results.

Get bleaching or teeth whitening once and if needed scaling also. Staining can also because of excess of tea, coffee and chocolate. Brush teeth regularly two times daily with soft bristle toothbrush. Rinse mouth after eating anything.

I got a dental bridge done on molars over an year ago. After a month or so, I am experiencing severe stench from outer side of the bridge. I went back to the same clinic and complained, but I was told that as there is no pain nor swelling, it's all ok! I had been very sensitive to foul smelling of others' mouth. Now, I am with it perpetually! what should I do to get back my oral confidence?

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

Kindly consult a dentist in person for further suggestion. You may need deep cleaning along with surgical, gum strengthening procedures. Dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush.

I am 37 years old. I am suffering from gum bleeding from last 2 years&upper has red allergy portion in middle last 2years. Please give me solution.

BDS

Most likely you have periodontal problems. For this, you need to hurry to the dentist with opg x ray for either curettage or periodantal flap surgery (depending on the degree of bone loss). Please do not delay as this will end up with loose teeth (as the foundation of your teeth i. E, gums and bones will be infected). Since you r young, the treatment prognosis will be good if you follow the instructions properly.

Root canal is kind of a cleaning of carries teeth. And not always successful if the carries spread to other teeth. And the pain is usually because of the gingival inflammation. Either you should consult the dentist again or consult for a homoeopathic treatment. You may try taking homoeopathic medicine Myristica 30 3 doses 1 hourly and then report after 2 days.

Hello -- what this sounds like to me most of all is an inflamed nerve (neuritis or neuralgia) along a nerve pathway, probably a cranial nerve, and may well be a sequel to or herald of a bout with shingles. If it is going to be shingles you'll know soon enough, as you'll have lesions (blisters most likely) start to show up along the nerve pathway where the pain is now. (anyone who's ever had chickenpox is at fairly high risk of eventually having a bout of shingles, as the varicella virus never really goes away, just lies dormant). On the other hand if you've had shingles before, even if you weren't aware of it, then what this may be is post-herpetic pain, which usually doesn't last more than a day, though it can become quite chronic in certain people. It really does sound like nerve pain, isn't the jugular, could however be a nerve that parallels the path of the jugular, possibly a branch of the xiii, ix or x cranial nerve. Each serves a different purpose and only the ix, which normally would also cause pain in the mouth or throat, is potentially serious if troubled. Since the pain starts in the ear it's probably a branch of the auditory nerve, the viii one, which can cause some pretty exquisite pain. This often responds to over-the-counter (otc) non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (nsaid) pain meds such as advil or aleve (ibuprofen or naproxen). Sometimes the pain is persistent and other measures are required to control it, but if it's the viii cranial (auditory) nerve or a branch of it, usually this will subside shortly on its own. It may also recur. Again, if you begin to notice small bumps turning to blisters (similar to chickenpox lesions) along the path of the pain, that would be shingles. At any rate it's not your jugular vein gone screwy on you. Shooting, stabbing, startling pain is almost always nerve pain, and if it originates in any part of the head (including the ear) it's usually a cranial nerve or at least a subsidiary of one. This is almost always a nuisance, but hopefully isn't announcing a new case of shingles (more often that pain comes after the blisters, sometimes before, though), and usually responds well to non-rx pain meds. If it continues or becomes worse, or if anything new happens, please follow up here with us. Good luck to you.
