Dear lybrate-user, You may be evolving into a borderline personality disorder. Depression, cutting wrist, feeling alone, sharing with a boy etc may be due to your personality weakness. Still you have not fixed your personality at 16 years of age. You can develop a better personality if you take treatment like Cognitive Behaviour therapy or DBT. Please consult a clinical psychologist or psychiatrist who is trained in these therapies for help.

My 25 yrs. Daughter B Tech, feels she has lost everything in life. She fear's about future and talks about past. Her mood changes very frequently. Sometimes she feels happy but gets frightened in night. She does not sleep in the night. Sometimes she becomes violent and could not control anger but after some time she doesn't remember what happened. She is afraid of socialising with other people.

Dear lybrate-user, It looks like your daughter has a mental disorder. If it is a recent behaviour, less than 1 year, her treatment may be completely useful. If it is more than 1 year, the treatment will bring about 80-90% change to her old behaviour. However she needs treatment by a psychiatrist as early as possible. She is qualified. Her carrier and marriage may be affected with this disorder without treatment for long time.

Dear doctor we have a patient of o.c.d. It's now known fact that it's due to hyper activity of mglur5. Proven medication is not available and are under development. You are requested to kindly help us by informing the safest method to block it like zinc nootropics (eg. Memantine, inositol) or as you know better like ayurvedic, homeopathic remedies). We will be highly obliged and thankful to you. You are requested to write with dosage etc.

MBBS, DPM
Psychiatrist, Bangalore
Dear lybrate-user, Any new drug undergoes many stages in research. For every 10000 drugs discovered, harly one drug comes out after the 3 stages of drug development. Mglur5 is still in animal studies stage. It may take another 10 or more long years to come for human trials (not to market) - that too if it works. It may die like all 9999 drugs before that. Both memantine and inositol are available in India. Though not approved for OCD, still you can try, if you can tolerate. Proven medication for OCD now is SSRI. It needs high doses for many months or years. Other treatments are ERP, rTMS, deep brain stimulation, surgery on brain with gamma knife. You have to consult ayurvedic and homeopathic doctors for remedies in their system.

I have some short of depression like I am addicted to tobbaco. I eat medicine then eat tobacco so it doesn't improve ...
Dear Sohil, Many persons fighting with depression, get addicted to tobacco. Antidepressants and nicotine in tobacco, act on the same nerve cells. So their interaction may be not be effective, if they are used together. Why don't you plan and quit tobacco and take only antidepressant for improving your health? Quitting tobacco may be difficult, but not impossible. Try for 12 weeks continuously. All the best.

I had uterine cancer scare in 2015. I had undergone hysterectomy. Though all the tests were negative for cancer I have developed a fobia of cancer. I always feel sick. My stomach aches all the time. N in dreams also I always see sickness or sick people. Most of the time myself .Is this neurological disorders. I try to remain happy n keep myself busy. But subconsciously I always see myself taking medication and injections. Please advice.

MBBS, DPM
Psychiatrist, Bangalore
Dear lybrate-user, Health anxiety is one of the disorders of mind. It is not neurological - it is psychological. That means, your mind finds you sick though your brain knows you are not having cancer. This kind of health anxiety is common in hypothyroidism. With whatever dose of thyronorm you are taking, please get TSH level done on your blood. With that report, please consult a psychiatrist or clinical psychologist who can treat you with psychotherapy. It needs many sessions and your co operation. All the best.

Dear lybrate-user, Sleep disorder may be a part of depression itself. With proper type and dose of antidepressant both your problems can be solved. Please consult a psychiatrist nearby or come online text or audio with all the details.

Dear lybrate-user, I hope with inderal and prodep your depressive symptoms are less. Please attend gym without protein supplements. Since you have irritable bowel syndrome, you may find it difficult to digest too much protein. For allergic lab tests, you have to consult a immunologist.

Dear lybrate-user, If your problems were due to Vitamin B12 and D deficiency, everything will be sorted out with 12 weeks of treatment. Wait without restarting ayurvedic medicines patiently for some more time. Whatever you are facing may be withdrawal symptoms or may be a part of the original disorder. Doctor would have given antidepressant because he would have diagnosed gastric problem is due to depression. Most of the ayurvedic medicines are alcohol based. What you are facing is NOT alcohol withdrawal.

Why relapse occur after treatment depression. Is it possible to prevent from relapse. Can I cure permanently.
Dear Ashok, Depressions are different varieties. Bipolar depression is a relapsing disorder. You can prevent a relapse, by taking appropriate mood stabilizer tablets in proper dose for many years. Many diseases in medicine like diabetes, hypertension, hormonal problems are life long. Doctors still care for it - not to interfere with your life. Like those diseases, please take care of your future depression with mood stabilisers. Don't think of cure.

Now my question is, will this one time smoking cause a long time effect, will I get asthma attacks regularly like before even after using inhaler? Please help me. * I USE ESIFLO 125 INHALER. Dear lybrate-user, No, this one time smoking will not make your asthma worse. You will find relief with inhalers. Probably you were allergic to smoke in any form. That precipitates asthma. That happened with cigarettes today. Thank God, this one time smoking served as deterrent to smoking in your life. Find a partner who is a non smoker, so that you will not get frequent asthma attacks after marriage. All the best.

I am 28 years old. I have smoking habit. I need to forget that habit. Pls help me.

MBBS, DPM
Psychiatrist, Bangalore
Dear lybrate-user, Happy to know that you want to forget smoking. Please try to stop smoking at the earliest. It has many health benefits in the long run. When you stop suddenly, you may get withdrawal symptoms like restlessness, irritability, lack of concentration, increased hunger, sleep disturbance, headache, impatience, anxiety, depression, etc. If you have them please don’t get back to smoking, take nicotine gum or lozenge or patch. They are available in all medical shops. You don’t need a prescription from doctors. Use 2 mg gum if you smoke less than 25 cigarettes/day. Use 4 mg gum if you smoke more than 25 cigarettes/day. First 6 weeks, use 1 gum every 1 – 2 hours. Reduce it in week 7 – 9 to one gum every 2 – 4 hours. In week 10 – 12, reduce it further to 1 gum every 4 -8 hours. By 3 months, you will be able to stop both cigarettes and gum fully without any withdrawal symptoms. Please feel confident that you can do it and give yourself some gift for doing it like vacation or books or new mobile. Smoking is a chronic relapsing condition like diabetes and B.P. So please don’t worry if you restart smoking. Start all over again to stop. You will learn the situations that make you smoke and avoid them. Please think of health benefits and money saved often. Plan how to avoid relapsing situations, like smoking friends, along with alcohol, stressful feeling or depression. Delay, drink, deep breathe, distract and discuss are the helpful tips. Increase of non smoking zones, gift yourself for stopping smoking. Even chewing cinnamon may delay. Please remember that the urge to smoke comes and goes like waves. Delay and see whether it goes away. It will like a passing cloud.

Dear lybrate-user, Smoking is one of the reasons for mouth cancer. White line is one of the indication of cancer occurring. Your white line may or may not be a precancerous white line. Always it is better to know early at pre cancerous stage so that it can be treated without any complications. Please consult a dentist or head and neck cancer surgeon for a biopsy - a small bit will be taken and sent for detecting cancer cells. Even if it is non cancerous white line, it is better to stop smoking. It may at any time become cancer if you continue smoking. All the best.

Is rtms a better option for anxiety and depression! is rtms treatment available in gurgaon haryana?
Dear Sahil, i may not say rtms is a better option - it is one more option. It is safe. No side effect. Not addicting. On the other side it is costly. You need to go to the facility to take it. It is still in experimental stage. The number of sessions also need more research. Not much is known how long the improvement last. But if the drugs are not useful and you can not tolerate an drug, you can try harmless rtms.

How much time is required for complete cure of obsessive compulsive disorder? I am taking fluvoxamine tablet 100 mg twice daily. If the ocd is of mild to moderate grade.

MBBS, DPM

Dear Nurul, OCD usually takes a longer duration of drugs ad also more dosage. If it you put in efforts to expose yourself to the situations and tolerate your anxiety without giving into compulsive behaviour, you may be able to stop drugs in 2 years or so.
