9 Tips to Look After Your Teeth

Brush at least twice a day. The best time to brush teeth is after meals. Choose a toothbrush with a small head for better access to back teeth. Soft bristles are kinder on your gums.

  1. Use fluoridated toothpaste. Fluoride helps to harden tooth enamel and reduces your risk of decay.
  2. Brush thoroughly. Tooth brushing should take between two and three minutes.
  3. Floss your teeth daily. Use a slow and gentle sawing motion.
  4. Limit acidic drinks like soft drinks, cordials and fruit juices. Food acids soften tooth material and dissolve the minerals in tooth enamel, causing holes (cavities or caries). In severe cases, teeth may be 'eaten' right down to the gum.
  5. Limit sugary foods. Bacteria in dental plaque change sugars into acids.
  6. Protect your teeth from injury. Wear a mouthguard or full-face helmet when playing sports.
  7. Try to save a knocked out tooth. If possible, hold the tooth back in place while you seek immediate dental advice. If this is not possible, wrap the tooth in plastic or place it in milk and seek dental advice immediately.
  8. Avoid using your teeth for anything other than chewing food. If you use them to crack nuts, remove bottle tops or rip open packaging, you risk chipping or even breaking your teeth.
  9. See your dentist for regular check-ups. You should also visit your dentist if you have a dental problem such as a toothache or bleeding gums.

Hello Lybrate user, if orthodontic extractions were required for your previous Orthodontic treatment (braces, and avoided for whatever reasons then it is important to undergo a retreatment. Since you are not satisfied with the results, and as your teeth were not extracted, there's a possibility of getting tooth extracted in this retreatment provided if interproximal stripping of tooth was not done. Regarding your age, Orthodontic treatment can be done at any age as long as you have healthy gum support and excellent oral hygiene. Adult Orthodontics is very common nowadays, hence you need not worry about your age. As for your treatment please consult an Orthodontist (braces specialist) for a detailed treatment plan. Regards.

Your teeth are not growing out. Your gums are residing so you feel a gap between the bridge n teeth. Replace your bridge with a new one. Maintain proper oral hygiene to prevent this.

Hi, even after scaling done you have bad breath, there could be some other associated problems like sinusitis, acidity or even diabetes. You can have ENT consultation for throat and sinus checkups. And also get your teeth examined again for deep tarter deposits and pocket formation around teeth which might require more extensive gums treatment. Thanks.

I am a male, 35 years of age and married with 1 daughter of 4 years young. From my marriage days, my wife telling me that I have bad breadth and my mouth is having some problems. Dear bad Odour from mouth is a very common problem. Although it can have various local as well as systemic causes, the most common cause of the problem is poor oral hygiene. It seems you already brush twice daily and also use mouth wash. However how often do you clean your tongue? unclean tongue is a very frequent source of bad breath. You can either use your brush or the tongue cleaner to properly clean your tongue after meals. In addition I will suggest you to start using dental floss at least once daily. Dietary & lifestyle modification like avoiding odorous food like onion, garlic, smoking (if you smoke) can also help. Don't let your mouth dry, sip water intermittently. I am sure you will get over the problem. Sometimes other diseases like infection of respiratory tract (sinusitis) or digestive system disturbances can also be the culprit but think about these only if you don't get relief by following the above suggested steps. Regards.

If its a wisdom tooth she can get it removed. Else you can go for ROOT CANAL treatment (RCT) of the tooth followed by a crown, provided the tooth is still having ample amount of structure and a good bone support.
