What should be the diet for a diabetic patient 60 yes female. Can she take rice in lunch and dinner?
Diabetes is a disease of carbohydrates metabolism. So one has to be very cautious in eating carbohydrate diet. Rice elevates blood sugar quickly. Hence plain rise is not advisable. But if it is made of brown rice with fibres like vegetables or split green lentils, then it is allowed in medium proportions. Basically she has to avoid white rice, potatoes, fried food and sweets.

I am 55 year old I am a diabetic patient for last 10 year. I am facing erection problem can you suggest some remedies.
Mr. Lybrate-user, diabetes mellitus affects small blood vessels, so affects erectile function in many people. Especially if blood sugar is not well controlled. So primary requirement is to have excellent sugar control with fasting closer to 100 mg and pp 150 to 160 mg and hba1c% <7. If this not maintained for long time, then ed is bound to develop. Apart from tight sugar control there are certain drugs called as pde- v inhibitors which have been able to help overcoming this difficulty.

Avoid milk in tea. No problem in taking 8 cups of tea with reference to your kidneys, but there may be other problems. So try to keep it within 5 cups per day. Don't try to replace water with tea.

lybrate-user, TSH level is too high, it means hypothyroidism is not in control. When on treatment with adequate dose of thyroxine, the recommended TSH levels are between 3 to 4 mU/L. If levels are higher then most of the symptoms reappear. It is clear that the dose being taken (100 mcg) is inadequate. It has to be increased by at least 25 mcg. Then you will have to check TSH after 6 weeks ti see if the additional dose has helped in reducing the TSH level. Thanks.

Mr. lybrate-user, Diabetes is well controlled mainly because of drugs that you are taking. Therefore, the present treatment has to be continued along with that you will have to exercise regularly, plus take a properly planned and restricted diet that provides exact amount of calories based on ideal body weight (65 kgs), extent of daily exercise and sugar levels. Thanks.

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism around 2 months ago. Have a look at my previous report http://i.imgur.com/9QTQrDt. Jpg.My doctor prescribed me thyroxine Sodium 75 mcg tablets and advised me to get another fT4/tsh test done after 1 months of taking this tablet. But due to some problems I didn't go for the test and now after two months I noticed a little increment in the swelling of my thyroid gland. So I want your advice regarding test and medicine dose adjustment or some medicine to be added or remove from previous one. So please tell me with details Should I go for a free T4/TSH test? Any medicine to be added or remove from this? Your advice.

Mr. lybrate-user, I can not access your earlier report in this communication. It is possible to see only when report is uploaded in a private conversation. It is always advised to get a repeat TSH test done after 6 to 8 weeks of starting treatment, to check if the dose give is adequate or needs any alteration. On treatment TSh should be maintained between 3 to 4 mU/L, then only all he symptoms are well controlled. Thanks.

Mr Naveen, If sugar levels are normal and still your ED is persisting, then it is unlikely to be completely cured. ED occurs in diabetes as a consequence of microvascular damage due to high blood glucose. Damage once done will not be retraced. You have good sugar control now but earlier effect will continue.
