Broken Nose - 7 Signs You are Suffering from it

A broken nose is any crack or fracture in the bony portion of the nose. This is usually a result of external trauma.

Nasal fractures are often cited as the most common type of facial fracture, accounting for approximately half of all facial fractures in several studies.

Broken Nose Causes:

Common sources of trauma include the following:

  1. Sports injuries

  2. Personal fights

  3. Motor vehicle accidents

  4. Falls

  5. In children, nasal fractures are most commonly due to falls.

Broken Nose Symptoms:

  1. Tenderness when touching the nose

  2. Swelling of the nose or face

  3. Bruised nose

  4. Bruising under the eyes (black eye)

  5. Deformity of the nose (crooked nose)

  6. Nosebleed

  7. Pain and difficulty breathing out of the nostrils

From last one month I am feeling pain in my right side of nasal cavity. It was since than when food suddenly stucked in my nasalcavity what is the reason for pain?

PG Hom, London, BHMS
Homeopath, Mumbai
Hi , if food particle was stuck in your nasal cavity, there is a chance that either the particle would have caused some injury to the surrounding mucosa leading to the pain or if the particle is still stuck and didn't come out or only partly came out, it would have been infected giving rise to pain.

I am 27 years old unmarried my E C G report is showing SINUS arrhythmia / NO ST. T CHANGES. What does it mean please explain.

M.D. Consultant Pathologist, CCEBDM Diabetes, PGDS Sexology USA, CCMTD Thyroid, ACDMC Heart Disease, CCMH Hypertension, ECG
Sexologist, Sri Ganganagar
Sinus arrhythmia is a normal physiological phenomenon, most commnonly seen in young, healthy people. The heart rate varies due to reflex changes in vagal tone during the different stages of the respiratory cycle. Inspiration increases the heart rate by decreasing vagal tone. With the onset of expiration, vagal tone is restored, leading to a subsequent decrease in heart rate. The incidence of sinus arrhythmia decreases with age, presumably due to age-related decreases in carotid distensibility and baroreceptor reflex sensitivity.

I am 21 years old male I keep snoring a lot and wake up in middle of the night some times to grasp for some air. What should I do?

BAMS
Ayurveda, Bangalore
Hi, please follow these tips to stop snoring: - reduce your weight if you are obese. - perform pranayama (breathing exercises) everyday. - quit smoking which irritates the mucosal layer of the nose and throat and causes blockage and results in snoring. - quit alcohol and sedatives which relax the throat muscles and results in snoring. - sleep on sides instead on back. - elevate the head by using a thick pillow which eases the breathing. - clear the nose before going to bed. - establish regular sleep pattern. - keep the bedroom air moist by using humidifier; as dry air irritates the mucosal membrane in the nose and throat. - perform throat exercises like repeating the vowels a, e, i, o, you loudly for 2-3 mins few times a day or keeping the tongue behind the teeth and moving it backwards - 3-4 times a day. - anti snoring appliances can also be used.

You need to do warm salt water gargles daily-preferably morning and night. Also avoid cold and sour food items. If tonsils are enlarged and causing problem in swallowing or breathing or causing recurrent sore throat (6-7 episodes per year), surgery (tonsillectomy) will be a better option instead of repeated medical treatment with antibiotics etc.

Actually I have tonsils which create so many problem in regular interval having this problem with tonsils I also get fever and body pain.

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
If you have repeated (recurring) tonsillitis you may wonder about having your tonsils removed. Guidelines suggest it may be an option to have your tonsils removed (tonsillectomy) if you: have had seven or more episodes of tonsillitis in the preceding year; or five or more such episodes in each of the preceding two years. Or three or more such episodes in each of the preceding three years.
