Dear Lybrate User, Nothing to be worried of. Just keep sipping plenty of water throughout the day and chew on some sugarfree chewing-gum (like Orbit or Happydent), 2-3 times a day. The weather these days is quite sultry and often humid so that could cause such problems. Meanwhile, just get a random blood sugar test done. If need be after that, go in for a fasting and post-prandial test. Get yourself examined by your local dentist at the soonest possible.

•Eat a healthy, balanced diet and avoid eating strongly flavoured or spicy food. •Cut down on sugary food and drink, as it can increase the amount of bacteria in your mouth. •Reduce your alcohol consumption. •Stop smoking. •Cut down on coffee. •Drink plenty of water to help prevent your mouth becoming dry. •Chew sugar-free gum after eating, to stimulate the flow of saliva. This will help clean away any remaining food particles. •Don't use toothpaste to clean your dentures, as it can scratch the surface and cause stains. •Clean your dentures thoroughly using soap and lukewarm water, denture cream or a denture-cleaning tablet. •Use a separate toothbrush to clean your dentures. •Make sure you visit your dentist for regular check-ups. Having regular dental check-ups will ensure that any plaque is removed from your teeth, particularly in areas that are difficult to reach. •Your dentist can recommend the best way to clean your teeth and gums, and point out areas you might be missing. They can also identify any signs of gum disease and ensure early treatment. •Gastritis, lung & sinus infection may also be the cause of bad smell in the mouth. 90% of bad breath is due to a dirty tongue. •If your bad breath is caused by a gastrointestinal problem, such as an H. Pylori infection or gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD), you may be referred to a gastroenterologist. •Persistent bad breath or a bad taste in the mouth may be a warning sign of gum (periodontal) disease. Gum disease is caused by the buildup of plaque on teeth. •You may need deep cleaning & fill tooth cavities with artificial enamel filling. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with a mouth wash until then. Advance procedures can be done with laser too.

The mouth is home to hundreds of bacterial species with various nutritional preferences. These organisms usually enjoy proteins, and as they digest proteins several fetid substances arise. The role of volatile sulfur compounds (vscs) in producing bacteria that colonize over the tongue was recently understood as a main cause of halitosis (bad breath). The most common vscs, such as methylmercaptan and hydrogen sulfite, can be detected by using organoleptic and objective methods. Treatment includes maintaining good oral hygiene, brush two times a day and gargle with salted water after meals, homoeopathic medicines will give you permanent solution.

Hello doctor, I am 30 years old male and have problem when I brush my teeth, My gums bleed, can you please suggest me...
There are so many causes of bleeding gums - - brushing too hard - poor oral hygiene. - vitamin deficiency - taking blood thinners or other medications - bleeding or clotting disorders - mouth sores - other medical problems, including diabetes, heart disease, leukemia or scurvy few advice to stop bleeding gums-- - visit to a dentist for professional cleaning once in a year - use a soft toothbrush -- and brush properly! brush your teeth for at least two minutes twice a day and after meals. Hard brushing can further damage the soft tissues of your mouth. - floss at least once a day and be sure to floss beyond the gum line to remove more plaque. - control bleeding by applying pressure to the area with a cold compress. - rinse with salt water to keep the area clean. - avoid mouthwashes that contain alcohol, which can dry out your mouth.

Sugary foods should be consumed in limited quantities as the bacteria in dental plaque changes them into acids.

I had percutaneous injury while extracting molar tooth of HIV positive child (Child's CD4 count is 650 and is on ART). Injury is superficial but was bleeding, I immediately removed gloves and washed in running water for about 2 mins. Do I need PEP ?

Is this a doctor asking a question. Obviously! For an HIV+ve patient, you should always wear double gloves.Precautions should be your major priority. And, yes you need PEP

How can I get relief from Cavity in teeth without root canal? please help me and tell home remedies.

BDS
Dentist, Delhi
How can I get relief from Cavity in teeth without root canal? please help me and tell home remedies.
If the cavity is shallow then it can be treated by restoration and if the cavity is deep or you are having sensitivity to hot or cold foodstuff then root canal treatment is the first choice of treatment or you can go for extraction of tooth. There is no home remedy which can give you permanent relief from this, you can delay the treatment by taking some medicine but you cannot avoid it permanently.

Enamel Loss: What It Is and How to Fix It?

MDS Prosthodontics, BDS
Dentist, Mohali
Enamel Loss: What It Is and How to Fix It?

Enamel loss is nothing but tooth enamel erosion and this is quite a pathetic kind of oral condition. If the eroded enamel does not get restored, then your oral condition will get deteriorated to a great extent.
Teeth enamel plays the most important role in protecting teeth and if this layer gets eroded, then your teeth will get heavily damaged. Your teeth will not only get eroded, but the real dental color will also get changed.

Why enamel erosion occurs?

  1. Drinking excessive hot or cold: Your enamel is very much sensitive to hot or cold food items and as a result of which email loss is invited.
  2. Having fruit drinks: Citric acid in the fruit drinks is the element that can cause enamel erosion.
  3. Sugary diet: Excessive sugary diet is the very prominent cause of this kind of dental condition and thus you should take more and more of non-sugary foods.
  4. Environmental factors: There are many environmental factors that are responsible for enamel loss, and they are corrosion, stress, tear, wear, friction and others.
  5. Medications: Few medications are there that can cause enamel erosion and these medicines are antihistamines, aspirin and many more.
  6. Gastrointestinal troubles: These kinds of troubles are prone to the frequent erosion of tooth enamel and thus these problems need to be resolved as soon as possible.

What are the leading treatments for restoring enamel loss?

  1. Using fluoride toothpaste and mouthwash: There are many talented dentists who are strongly recommending the usage of both fluoride mouthwash and toothpaste so that tooth decay can be easily prevented. These products are now commercially available over-the-counter.
  2. Routine dental check-up: Daily dental check-up is needed so that oral condition can be checked so that the causes and signs of enamel loss can be detected, and then only perfect treatments can be easily applied.
  3. Taking vitamin-D supplements: there are many drugs and supplements that are enriched with vitamin-D, and they can be taken on a regular basis so that decayed enamel can be easily restored in a safe manner. Coconut oil can be taken in addition to these supplements for getting greater oral benefits.
  4. Cosmetic restoration options: There are many enamel-restoration options that can be cosmetically performed. Some of the popular options are crowning, filling, and others. On the other hand, leading a healthy lifestyle is also very important in this regard.

Your present condition (OSMF )is relatively progressed to a stage where mouth exercises and medicines or intra oral steroid injections will not repair or bring the situation back to normal. Good news is its curable with surgical intervention and the best results obtained is from laser surgery. For oral pain you can apply dologel or hiora-sg gel. For more detail you can connect with us. Tooth ache may be due to infection, tooth decay, gum problem etc. Anything stuck in the teeth may also cause the problem. Homoeopathy has a good treatment for this without adverse effects. Take magnesia phos 200 twice daily in the morning and evening.
