I am 18 years old. I have lower back pain since 2 years. It doesn' t go at all but increases during monthly cycle. Also, my cycles are irregular and continues for 10-12 days. I get pain in my lower abdomen and also near armpits. What should I do to cure these?

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. Well you are very young and I advise you get a consultation from gynaecologist done as irregular menstrual cycles can lead to back pain issues. From an orthopaedic point of view, my advice is to do intensive back exercises, walks for 2-3 km/day, adequate calcium and vitamin d supplementation. 1.. Go for fasting once a week. You can go for absolute fasting or rely on a liquid diet to digest ama (toxin). Fasting should be followed by hot fomentation or by taking a bath with lukewarm water or steam bath. 2.. After fasting and fomentation, mix powdered long pepper, black pepper and dried ginger in equal quantities and take 1 teaspoon of this powdered mix with lukewarm water twice a day. This will help you restore your digestive fire. 3.. Take one tablespoon of castor oil before going to bed, once or twice a week. It helps in cleansing ama (toxin) build up and balancing vata. 4.. Mix equal quantities of powdered fenugreek seeds, turmeric and ginger powder. Take one teaspoon daily in the morning and evening. 5.. For dry fomentation of the affected joints, take a cloth and fold it into four, fill it with hot and sand make a potli (bag) out of it. Use this bundle for the fomentation of different joints. This is very helpful in reducing pain and swelling.

Most leg pain results from wear and tear, overuse, or injuries in joints or bones or in muscles, ligaments, tendons or other soft tissues. Leg pain can also be caused by blood clots, varicose veins or poor circulation. To relieve mild pain: stay off your leg as much as possible apply an ice pack or bag of frozen peas to the affected area for 15 to 20 minutes three times a day elevate your leg whenever you sit or lie down please go to a physiotherapist if: you have pain during or after walking you have swelling in both legs your pain gets worse your symptoms don't improve after a few days of home treatment you have painful varicose veins if you feel the pain is from muscle cramp then you need to drink a lot of water because poor fluid intake (dehydration) may predispose to cramps also low blood levels of either calcium or magnesium directly cause cramps.

Common Causes and Prevention of Osteoporosis

What is osteoporosis?

Osteoporosis is a disease concerning the bones. Decreased strength of the bones poses a risk for them to break. Osteoporosis is very common among older people, whose bones become brittle with age. The most common bones affected by this disease include the backbone, forearm bones and the hip bone. There are no such symptoms until a broken bone occurs. The bones weaken to such an extent that a break may happen in case of very minor stress. Usually, a broken bone is followed by chronic pain and the disability to perform daily activities. Surveys show that 15% of white people in their 50s and 70% of white people in their 80s are affected by osteoporosis.

What are the common causes and symptoms of osteoporosis?

  1. May occur due to the lowering of the 'peak bone mass index'.
  2. In women, bone loss increases after menopause stage due to lowering down of estrogen level.
  3. Also occurs because of another disease or previous treatments. This includes alcoholism, surgical ovary removal, hyperthyroidism, anorexia or any form of kidney disorder.
  4. Anti-seizure medicines, chemotherapy, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors and taking of performance-enhancing drugs like steroid increase the bone loss rate.
  5. Lack of regular exercise may lead to osteoporosis.
  6. Osteoporosis is defined as a 'bone density of 2.5 standard deviations below than that of a young adult'.
  7. Osteoporosis is hereditary in nature. People having a family history of osteoporosis are at a high risk of getting the disease.
  8. More than thirty genes are linked with osteoporosis development.
  9. If you have had a fracture before, you are at a risk of a repeat.
  10. Early menopause in women is also responsible for osteoporosis.
  11. People with a small structure and body build are at a risk of getting osteoporosis.
  12. Protein and vitamin deficiency makes your bones weak and makes you vulnerable to osteoporosis.
  13. Phosphoric acid present in soft drinks is another threat, which may cause the disease.
  14. People suffering from malnutrition are likely to get osteoporosis.
  15. Over replacement of L-Thyroxine may lead to osteoporosis.
  16. Use of heparin and warfarin for a long time decreases the bone density.

How can Osteoporosis be prevented?
The best way to avoid getting osteoporosis in the future is to maintain a preventive lifestyle.

  1. Exercise regularly
  2. Indulge in natural calcium sources
  3. Maintain intake of vitamin D and K
  4. Do not smoke and consume alcohol
  5. Don't undertake stressful physical activities
  6. Go for regular health checkups
  7. Stay fit and stay away from obesity

Osteoporosis is a disease you must stay away from. It leaves you physically incapable and unfit.

I suggest you follow the below for your condition: take mag phos 6x - thrice daily for next 2 weeks and update. Also do x-ray of the affected area. Heat and ice packs. Heat and/or cold therapy helps relieve most types of low back pain by reducing inflammation. Often patients use ice, but some prefer heat. Both may be used alternately. You have to stop bike-riding. Take a morning walk daily for 30 minutes.

This could be due to cervical spondylosis in which you should avoid carrying such heavy weights. A cervical spine xray will help diagnose the condition. Calcium and the associated vit. D deficiency leads to generalised pain and feeling of fatigue in body longwith nonspecific muscle pains etc.

It may be meniscus injury. Take rest for few days. Apply ice pack 5 times daily for 10 minutes every time. You will need some medicines. Consult orthopaedic surgeon.

Quadriceps exercises- lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core strengthening exercise- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. Repeat 10 times, twice a day.

Hi, please follow these tips to stop snoring: - reduce your weight if you are obese. - perform pranayama (breathing exercises) everyday. - quit smoking which irritates the mucosal layer of the nose and throat and causes blockage and results in snoring. - quit alcohol and sedatives which relax the throat muscles and results in snoring. - sleep on sides instead on back. - elevate the head by using a thick pillow which eases the breathing. - clear the nose before going to bed. - establish regular sleep pattern. - keep the bedroom air moist by using humidifier; as dry air irritates the mucosal membrane in thenose and throat. - perform throat exercises like repeating the vowels a, e, i, o, you loudly for 2-3 mins few times a day or keeping the tongue behind the teeth and moving it backwards - 3-4 times a day. - anti snoring appliances can also be used. Apply rumalaya liniment on the chest and the back 3 times a day and give hot water fomentation.

Hello. We can't reverse the established pathology back, but we can control the process in the stage it is so that it wouldn't grow further. Apply Bakson’s Rheum Aid oil gently (2-3 times a day) and take orally Bakson’s Rheum-Aid syrup/ 1 tablespoon thrice daily. Also, increase your dietary intake of calcium which is present in green leafy vegetables, milk, milk products, sea food, white legumes, dried fig, black-eyed peas, almonds, oranges, seasame seeds. And vitamin D which is essential for absorption of calcium in our body and is synthesized naturally after getting exposed to sunlight, so early morning sunlight for 10-15 min. 2-3 times a day is mandatory. Pain may be muscular or joint pain, with local application it will subside. Commonly dandruff or any other infection and lack of hair nourishment are the main causes for hair fall. Bahut doctors se consult kiya lekin kisi ne iska sahi treatment nahi bataya or kaha ki operation kr skte h lekin uski bhi koi surity ni h ki thek ho jaye ho skta h or kharab ho jaye. Back pain can result from bad posture, a sudden jerky movement, a lumpy mattress or poor lifting techniques. It can also be caused by injury in a work place, by a sports accident or by muscular spasm. There are also many diseases and pathological conditions that can lead to back pain. These include abdominal or pelvic disease, anxiety, arthritis, cervical or lumbar spondylosis, dermatological problems, kidney disease, rheumatic conditions, tumours and scoliosis. Our modern, sedentary lifestyles have a profound effect on the development of back pain; indeed one of the most effective ways of preventing it is simply to stay active. An average adult in the India spends at least two hours a day in front of a computer screen or television set, and back problems can be triggered if they don’t sit properly. In an age of mobile phones and computer games, such troubles are increasingly inflicting children of school age as well. Top tips for back care: For back pain, better to see your Doctor sooner than later. Take regular exercise – your Doctor can say what’s right for you. Hours in one position can cause problems – avoid computer ‘hump’. During repetitive tasks, vary your rhythm and take frequent breaks. Adjust car seats and on long journeys, take regular breaks to stretch. Pace yourself with heavy work such as gardening – don’t risk a disc! Watch children’s posture – they shouldn’t carry bags on one shoulder or spend too long at a computer without breaks. Avoid strain when lifting, particularly small children and shopping.
