Soft drinks, cordials and fruit juices should be consumed in a limited quantity because they are acidic in nature. Acidic food or drinks often soften the tooth material which leads to the dissolution of minerals into the tooth enamel, resulting in cavities (holes).

Regular brush in our teeth ,twice in a day. Then why it yellow and sometime bleeding gums.

Regular brush in our teeth ,twice in a day. Then why it yellow and sometime bleeding gums.
Yellow teeth can be due to food habits and oral hygiene problems. Bleeding gums are a sign of gum disease. 1. Maintain good oral hygiene. 2. Brush regularly, at least twice daily. 3. Get scaling and polishing of teeth done every six months. Bleaching of teeth can be done for whiter teeth. 4. Get checkup done by dentist once in six months. 5. Have a healthy balanced diet.

Hello lybrate-user, an erupting wisdom tooth is often associated with pain, swelling, restricted mouth opening etc. Most commonly it is because of infection of the gums surrounding the erupting tooth. I will advise you to visit an oral surgeon/dentist who will most likely prescribe you a short course of antibiotic & pain killers. In the mean time do warm saline rinses and try to keep good oral hygiene by regular brushing. All the best.

Nutrition and Dental Health

MBBS
General Physician, Mumbai
Nutrition and Dental Health

Almost everything you eat and drink has an impact on your oral health, especially your teeth. This impact is not just due to the food's nutritional value, but also because parts of the mouth come in direct contact with the food that is taken. For example, if the teeth come in contact with a compound that has a pH value lower than 5.5, the enamel of teeth can get softened.

The following is a list of the foods, which are good for your teeth:

  1. Dairy products: Milk and most other dairy products are rich in calcium and protein. The cells called osteoblasts absorb calcium and create the protein tissues, which are the building blocks of the skeleton. An added advantage of these foods is that they are low in sugar content, which is beneficial for the teeth.
  2. Water: Fluoridated water is extremely good for bone and dental health. Minerals like chlorine, calcium, phosphorus and fluorine can prevent damage caused by acidic foods.
  3. Dry fruits: Most nuts are protein rich. The processes of biting and chewing also stimulate the salivary glands and saliva helps to clean the mouth and maintain oral health.
  4. Meat: Meat is also high in protein content and so it helps to protect the teeth and replenish the dissolved enamel. Fish and eggs are similarly helpful.

Here is a list of things that you should consume in regulated quantities to maintain dental health:

  1. Citrus fruits: Fruits like lemons, oranges, grapes etc contain citric acid. Acidic foods erode the tooth enamel and so these kinds of fruits should be included in your daily diet in small portions.
  2. Carbonated drinks: Most soft drinks and beverages contain large quantities of sugar. The sugar can be used by the dental plaque (mass of bacteria growing on the inside on the mouth) to produce acids and over time, which gives rise to a thick yellow layer on the teeth, damaging them.
  3. Candied sugar: Foods that are sticky can remain stuck in between the teeth for a very long time and cause decay of the enamel and harm the gums.

Hi lybrate-user, a mouth ulcer is a painful sore inside the mouth, on the tongue, soft palate (the back portion of the roof of your mouth), or inside the cheeks. Sores in your mouth are round, white, or grey in color, with a red edge or border. The condition is usually becomes okay withing 7 days. But if it persists beyond that, or if multiple ulcers keep re-appearing, medical advice must be taken. In severe mouth ulcer attacks, you may also experience fever and physical sluggishness. Taking vitamin b12 supplements along with a suitable gel for pain is the best remedy. Hope that helps.

Treatment of gum recession- - mild gum recession may be able to be treated by your dentist by deep cleaning the affected area. - if your gum recession cannot be treated with deep cleaning because of excess loss of bone and pockets that are too deep, gum surgery may be required to repair the damage caused by gum recession.

A major cause of tooth sensitivity is root exposure. You may need cleaning along with desensitizing procedures and / or artificial enamel filling and / or root canal treatment. Advance procedures can be done with laser too. You may consult me in person. Until then apply a desensitizing paste (Sensodyne Tooth paste) on the teeth. Wait for 10 to 15 min until you brush your teeth with the same paste. Applying it overnight will be better. Advance procedures can be done with laser

Pain is because of swelling due to food lodgement in that wisdom teeth area. Get your full mouth xray (opg) done from radiology lab and consult your dentist for status of wisdom teeth. Whether teeth can erupt or will just trouble you after every couple of months.

I have a mouth smelling problem is just because of a acidity or some other reason . And I also take all the possible ...
•Eat a healthy, balanced diet and avoid eating strongly flavoured or spicy food. •Cut down on sugary food and drink, as it can increase the amount of bacteria in your mouth. •Reduce your alcohol consumption. •Stop smoking. •Cut down on coffee. •Drink plenty of water to help prevent your mouth becoming dry. •Chew sugar-free gum after eating, to stimulate the flow of saliva. This will help clean away any remaining food particles. •Don't use toothpaste to clean your dentures, as it can scratch the surface and cause stains. •Clean your dentures thoroughly using soap and lukewarm water, denture cream or a denture-cleaning tablet. •Use a separate toothbrush to clean your dentures. •Make sure you visit your dentist for regular check-ups. Having regular dental check-ups will ensure that any plaque is removed from your teeth, particularly in areas that are difficult to reach. •Your dentist can recommend the best way to clean your teeth and gums, and point out areas you might be missing. They can also identify any signs of gum disease and ensure early treatment. •Gastritis, lung & sinus infection may also be the cause of bad smell in the mouth. 90% of bad breath is due to a dirty tongue. •If your bad breath is caused by a gastrointestinal problem, such as an H. Pylori infection or gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD), you may be referred to a gastroenterologist. •Persistent bad breath or a bad taste in the mouth may be a warning sign of gum (periodontal) disease. Gum disease is caused by the buildup of plaque on teeth. •You may need deep cleaning & fill tooth cavities with artificial enamel filling. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with a mouth wash until then. Advance procedures can be done with laser too. You may consult me in person.

Do not use your teeth for doing something other than chewing food. Using them for cracking nuts, removing bottle tops or ripping open packaging can result in chipped or broken teeth.
