Respected sir, I am suffering from mouth problem that is blood is coming from my teeth. I am using dabur red paste. Can you help me.

Dentist, Gurgaon
visit a dentist soon as this is gum infection. you need to get your teeth professionally cleaned by dentist. gum infection develop due to deposition of plaque and calculus around teeth which causes gum bleeding also. professional cleaning will remove these layers and infection will subside soon. use soft bristle brush for a month or two.

Chronic Bad Breath - Causes and Management

Chronic Bad Breath - Causes and Management

One thing that can put away talking to someone very interesting is bad breath. And it is not an uncommon problem. While most just try to use mouth wash and chewing gums to keep it away, it is important to note that bad breath can be a sign of underlying causes, both in the mouth and the body as a whole.

Identifying the reason can help in early diagnosis and prompt treatment of the actual disease condition.

There could be oral and general causes for bad breath or halitosis as it is medically called.  Food habits and other lifestyle habits including smoking can also lead to bad breath.

Oral causes:

  • Presence of food debris in a moist environment (saliva) is ideal for the oral bacteria to act on the food particles and break them down. This causes a bad breath, when it leads to plaque formation and it then calcifies into a hardened substance called calculus.  Plaque and calculus are the main ingredients for tooth decay and periodontal disease.
  • Severe tooth decay leads to bad breath as does periodontal infections. In severe cases, there could even be abscess formation in the root area of the tooth with pus formation
  • Unclean dentures are another source of halitosis. There could be food lodged in between teeth or the undersurface of the denture, leading to bad breath.
  • Dry mouth or xerostomia - Certain diseases and drugs can lead to dry mouth with reduced amounts of saliva.  Saliva has a natural flushing effect on the bacteria, and in its absence, the bacteria thrive, leading to a bad odour.

General health:  Chronic diseases like gastroesophageal reflux disease, digestive disorders, liver disorders, cancer, and diabetes can lead to bad breath.

Others:

  • Long-term smoking and/or chewing tobacco and alcohol are also reasons for bad breath.
  • Crash diets:  People on low-carb diets can have a bad breath, owing to burning of the fat and producing ketones, which have a strong smell.
  • Medications: Nitrates to reduce angina, chemotherapy agents for cancer, phenothiazines for anxiety can all lead to bad breath. They reduce saliva and/or release chemicals causing bad breath.

Management:  The first step in managing halitosis is to nail the cause down, which makes it easier to treat.

  • Start with oral hygiene check, and if there is decay or gum disease, consider restorations and cleaning.
  • Mouth rinses can be used in the maintenance phase.
  • Cessation of tobacco use should be considered.
  • General health conditions like GERD should be managed
  • Artificial saliva in cases of xerostomia
  • Alternative medications if they are causing the bad breath

Oral breath is definitely embarrassing but can be managed very easily.

I have a root canal treatment. I stopped the treatment after few months. Will any problem in future?

MDS
Dentist, Kota
No problem, if the treatment completed successfully. But if you won't take care of treated tooth and filling, it will again undergo cavitation and decay.

Take time to check your mouth regularly for any problems. Sometimes people notice that their gums bleed when they brush and floss. Others notice dryness, soreness, white patches, or a bad taste in the mouth. All of these are reasons to visit your dentist.

Please get your teeth professionally cleaned by a dentist. After cleaning of the teeth maintain your oral hygiene. You can ask your dentist about ways to maintain proper oral hygiene.

Sir I have gum bleeding problem, mouth gives smell, muscle has decreased or disorder What I have to do for it.

BDS

May be there chances of calculous deposition at the cervical area of teeth. Go to your dentist. If needed get cleaned your teeth (i.e. Scaling and polishing) follow proper brushing technique (watch utube videos for brushing technique) and understand from your dentist. Most common causes of bad breath is poor oral hygiene which leads to gum disease.

gum disease can be prevented

BDS
Dentist, Gurgaon
gum disease can be prevented
Prevention starts with good dental care habits. Brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss once a day. Flossing reaches the places the toothbrush can’t, about one-third of the tooth surface. Practice good overall health habits. Eating a wellbalanced diet and quitting smoking improves your overall health and your oral health. A professional cleaning done in the dental office is the only effective way to remove the hardened tarter that leads to gum disease. Also one of the things your dentist looks for during an examination is any sign of gum disease.

BDS
Dentist, Vadodara
Teeth pain are mostly because of tooth decay (cavities). Medicine can give you temporary relief. Permanent solution can be root canal treatment or removal of tooth depending on the cavity size n spread of infection.

Dear sir, please refer a good toothpaste to reduce tooth decay and black color holes on teeth's.

BDS
Dentist, Bangalore
Any toothpaste containing fluoride is good for tooth. Fluoride helps to prevent decay. But if once you got decay, it cant be cured by toothpaste or any medicine. You have to go for filling of teeth only.

I have my yellow teeth and I am very afraid with this please tell me how to make this white and shining. I regular brush.

BDS
Dentist,
Hi, the yellow color of your teeth might be because of stains which can be superficial and deep or even it might be the natural hue of your teeth. If the they stains are superficial they can be removed by a complete scaling procedure. Deeper stains can be removed by bleaching which can also lighten the yellow shade of your teeth to a certain extent.

This is good that you got your teeth cleaning done. Please use listerine mouthwash before going to sleep and apply glycerin on your lips.

I am 69yr old male. My tooth (3-6) was removed due to vertical crack. Now should I go for Implant or Bridge? Compare benefits. Also tell me the cost of both the procedures.

here is the comparison To replace lost teeth, you can either get a dental bridge or you can rely on dental implants. Do you know the benefits and disadvantages of each option? One of the biggest benefits of dental implants is that they protect the other teeth. In the case of a dental bridge, the natural teeth have to perform the function of support. The implant is not putting any strain on other teeth. Another great advantage of implants is that they can be used to replace more than one missing natural tooth. In the case of a bridge, a dentist will need healthy adjacent teeth for support. Various combinations are possible in the case of implants. The dentist can replace a single missing tooth or a denture. Implants require little maintenance. This is one of the biggest differences between this option and dental bridges. High quality implants can last a lifetime. Dental crowns and bridges will have to be replaced every 10 to 15 years. If you are considering implants, you should take in consideration another important advantage – implants are easier to maintain. The cleaning process is very simple and flossing between implants is possible. In addition, implants look more natural and facilitate chewing, since the dental bridge may slip. Dental bridges, on the other hand, come with a number of advantages, as well. To get a bridge, you will have to undergo a simple dental procedure that involves no surgery. In order to be placed in the mouth, dental implants require surgical intervention. It is easier and quicker to get dental bridges. The entire procedure will visit in approximately two to three visits to your dentists. A dental bridge is recommended in the case of jaw bone loss or significant damage. The process will be simpler, less painful and less expensive in such instances. It is important to know that the positioning of dental implants demands healthy bone. Once fixed, the bridge is very stable. It will provide for effortless chewing of food and it will feel comfortable, once you get familiar with it. Dental bridges are also a less expensive option than other dental methods for the replacement of missing teeth. Knowing these factors will help you make an informed decision about dental implants and bridges. Each option has its advantages that need to be compared for an informed decision to be made.
