Diploma in Child Health (DCH), MBBS

If baby is getting fever 6-8 hourly, responding to paracetamol, in between fever active, passing normal urine (as it was before illness) and not dull then it may be viral. Any thing else need investigations on day 4.

General Physician,
Weight gain is from increased food intake especially after delivery and lack of exercise as people tend not to do any work after delivery. Due to false belief and elders out dated practices. Check your tsh and send report to me privately.

Urination problems in children should be investigated thoroughly and treated at earliest.

My 22 month baby boy no growth. Weight and height is less compare to standard growth chart. He is active. Once ,I mean up to 1.6 years his growth was ok. But last 4-5 months no growth. Please suggest abt his diets.

MD - Paediatrics, MBBS
Pediatrician, Jaipur
Avoid bottle feeding if doing, encourage child to take feed of its own no matter he spoils a bit. Home made fresh diet is best for toddlers,it can be fortified with a bit of butter or ghee.Give him variety of foods with different taste. Promote him to be more playful rather than sluggish. You will see change in 4-5 months.

My baby is 2. 5 months old. She is not having cold cough or anything like that. But she occasionally coughs. Is it normal?

Diploma in Child Health (DCH), MBBS
Pediatrician,
Occasionally 2-3 time small bouts of coughing in a day or coughing after feeding is normal. It may be because to irritation due to some milk or normal secretion in thraot. Its a normal reflex coughing. Continus large bouts of coughing with cold or fever or other symptom you should give prescribed medicine or consult pediatrician.

My new born baby of age 6 days have found bilirubin level as 11.5.Dr recommended photo therapy. My baby is under photo therapy treatment but some people are saying it's not recommended upto 8th day. Should I take out her from there?

BHMS
Homeopath, Hyderabad
It's not a big deal to have photo therapy in initial days as it is needed and however the bilirubin levels are not so high and congenital jaundice is common in new born, so don't get tensed.

Hi my baby girl is 50 days old. Having fever since last 7 days. Doctor has given paracetamol drops and asked to give 4 times a day. There is was no improvement after two days so we visited doctor again he suggested to wait for four days with same medicines and come after that. Now after 5 days fever is continue. Kindly suggest, should I wait further.

Diploma in Child Health (DCH), MBBS
Pediatrician, Delhi
Hi lybrate-user your child is 50 days old which is less than 3 month of age, he is not very much immune to disease and so the risk of serious bacterial infection is high in such cases. So I suggest you to kindly suggest your doctor again if the fever is above 100.5 f. If it is below that and baby is doing well gaining weight active and alert we usually do not consider it a fever so no need of doing anything.

My new born baby girl is 8 days old. Her naval has a ambical cord which bleed minutely. Can I use mbsporin antibiotic powder on it which contains (neomycin, bacitracin and sulphacetamide. And what is the procedure to apply?

Postgraduate Programme in Pediatric Nutrition, Diploma in Pediatric Emergency Medicine, MRCPCH, MD - Paediatrics, MBBS
Pediatrician, Bangalore
Umbilical cord separates at 1 week of age. It is quite normal to notice some discharge for 1-2 days after this. It will dry and stop with normal cleansing. You can wipe with warm water and clean cloth. If it persists after 2 days, it might indicate umbilical granuloma which is scar tissue. Antibiotic powder and ointment is not necessary.

Dear Doctor, My 9 months old baby tries to vomit while feeding and also she does vomit acting many times a day. So we don't feed for food with a fear of vomiting. Please suggest how to control that vomit actings. Regards, Jay.

If baby is gaining weight appropriate to his age and growing well, there is no cause of worry. It may be possible that baby is not willing to eat. Avoid force feeding. Else you may consult pediatrician.

Recurrent respiratory tract infections are common after chickenpox, due to reduced immunity. Good nutrition & hygenic practices will reduce such occurences in future.
