- use a soft toothbrush -- and brush properly! brush your teeth for at least two minutes twice a day and after meals. Hard brushing can further damage the soft tissues of your mouth. - floss at least once a day and be sure to floss beyond the gum line to remove more plaque. - control bleeding by applying pressure to the area with a cold compress. - rinse with salt water or hydrogen peroxide to keep the area clean. Avoid mouthwashes that contain alcohol, which can dry out your mouth. - stay away from smoking and other tobacco products, which can aggravate bleeding gums. - eat a balanced diet and limit snacking between meals. Carbohydrates and sugars feed dental plaque. - try an oral irrigation device, commonly known as a" water pick, to clear debris from around the gum line. - you may need deep cleaning along with surgical curettage or gum strengthening procedure. Use pepsodent tooth paste & gum paint for 2 to 3 weeks. Advance procedures can be done with laser.

Dear Lybrate user, your vitamin B-12 levels are absolutely normal. Recurrent mouth ulcers can also be due to stress, dehydration, smoking, excess alcohol consumption or some underlying medical condition. Get your blood sugar also checked once. Keep yourself hydrated by consuming plenty of water and fluids. You may also consult a general physician for further queries.

Hello. Tooth sensitivity — also known as dentin hypersensitivity — affects the tooth or exposed root surfaces. This occurs when the enamel that protects our teeth gets thinner, or when gum recession occurs, exposing the underlying surface, the dentin, thus, reducing the protection the enamel and gums provide to the tooth and root. If hot, cold, sweet or very acidic foods and drinks, or breathing in cold air, makes your teeth or a tooth sensitive or painful then you may have sensitive teeth. Tooth sensitivity can come and go over time. Causes: There are many causes of tooth sensitivity, including: Worn tooth enamel from using a hard toothbrush or brushing too aggressively Tooth erosion due to highly acidic foods and beverages Tooth erosion due to bulimia or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) Gum recession that leaves your root surface exposed There are several conditions which can cause pain, but which are not tooth sensitivity: Dental caries A cracked or chipped tooth Grinding or clenching the teeth Leakage around restorations External tooth bleaching Management: Proper oral hygiene is the key to preventing gums from receding and causing sensitive-tooth pain. If you brush your teeth incorrectly, or over-brush, your gums may become sensitive. Brushing properly twice daily for 2 minutes with toothpaste that does not have high levels of abrasives, and flossing once a day, can help reduce the chance of tooth sensitivity. A diet low in acidic foods (tomatoes, pickles, tea, citrus fruits) and drinks also helps prevent tooth sensitivity. Treatment: Apply Plantago Q/ few drops on cotton swab, place it on the affected teeth and press it tightly, do it thrice a day. Orally, take Mag. Phos. 6x/ after every 2 hours. Do visit a dentist for proper diagnosis, share the reports with me. In case possible, will help you in treating your problem.

Hello Lybrate user, according to me the problem you said above clearly indicates poor oral hygiene but without examining practically hard to say, I can suggest some oral habit maintenance: 1. Brush twice 2. Use regular mouth wash every night before sleep 3. Pls do use floss. And check the outcome in a month. And do visit your dentist for regular check up.

Dear lybrate user, brushing twice daily with a soft toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste, flossing, rinsing your mouth after every meal, eating foods rich in calcium like dairy products, avoiding sugary and sticky foods and most importantly visiting your dentist for routine dental checkup every 6 months are the simplest, easiest ways of keeping teeth healthy and avoiding decay.

Mr. Lybrate-user start using toothpaste senquel-f twice or thrice a day, take the toothpaste on a finger n coat it over all the tooth surfaces n leave it for 5 min after that you can do the brushing using a soft bristle brush, this toothpaste has fluoride as a content, which will close the surface of dentinal tubules reducing the sensitivity, it will definitely benefit u, you can use it more times also, just gargle it away in 5 to 10 min.

Generally we advise to start the orthodontic treatment when the canine teeth erupts. But if there is a serious problem related to bones you can go at this age and consult an orthodontist.

Hello lybrate-user. Dental caries, wear off in your teeth, fractured tooth, are the main factors causing toothache. Regular visits to a dentist, going for professional teeth cleaning once in every 6 months helps you maintain proper oral hygiene. See a dentist soon and get the needful.

I have spot on my teeth it is not going so I think for scaling is it any harmful effect or side effect please help me.

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

I have spot on my teeth it is not going so I think for scaling is it any harmful effect or side effect please help me.
Scaling does not cause harm. It has transformed the teeth of many people who were in need of it and their teeth and gums became much healthier as all the accumulated dirt was removed which cannot be done by just brushing. So if the spot on your teeth can be removed by scaling and if the dentist you visit suggests that you need it you can go for it without any fear. If your teeth have deposits it will definitely make them better and healthier. If you also maintain oral hygiene well after a scaling its effects will be much better.

No More Bleeding Gums

PERIODONTIST, B.D.S.
Dentist, Navi Mumbai
No More Bleeding Gums

Nowadays, bleeding gums is a very common problem. Many people complain of bleeding during brushing and sometimes it is without brushing. If you want a solution to this problem then first we have to work on the problem. The common cause of poor gums is food debris or plaque accumulation on the teeth. This plaque if not removed through regular brushing and dental appointments, will harden into what is known as Tartar. ultimately, this will end into inflamed gums which are prone to bleeding.

The other causes for bleeding gums consist of -

Brushing too hard
Improper flossing
Scurvy ( vitamin C deficiency)
Vitamin K deficiency
Hormonal changes during pregnancy
Use of blood thinners

Healthy tips for it:

Brush twice in a day
Rinse your mouth after every snack
Use soft bristle toothbrush and avoid excessive force during brushing
Use proper technique for dental flossing
Go for regular dental check up to avoid future complications
