Weight gain at five years is 20 kg. Average. It also depend on food, you offer. Self feeding, quility home made food given 4-5 times day at 4-5 hours interval is all that required. Common cold is seasonal in nature seen in this month. No antibiotics, only nasal consetion treatment is required.

Hi, As per the recommendations all mothers has to give only breast feeding for first 6 months of age to their babies. If following points met, then your baby is getting sufficient milk from mother: 1. Mother is giving breast feeds more than 8 times per day. 2. Baby is sleeping well after each feed. 3. Baby should pass urine more than 6 times per day. 4. Baby should have adequate weight gain (atleast baby's current weight should be 900g - 1 kg more than the birth weight if age is 3 months completed, has the child grows well, the rate of weight gain will vary, have a regular check up of weight once in a month). ENCOURAGE THE MOTHER. MOTHER SHOULD NOT HAVE ANY STRESS / ANXIETY. MOTHER'S MILK IS THE BEST. DON'T INTRODUCE ANY FOODS TILL 6 MONTHS OF AGE.

I have a boy aged 14 months and some days. He tries taking baby steps through support, but can not continue for more than 4-5 steps. Can not see any physical deformity as well. Should I really be concerned as to when he could walk without support (at least take some steps)?

My son is of 4 months old is not passing motion regularly. He will not pass motion for more than a week. Is there any natural way to make it regular. Can we start giving him solid food like raggi. To make his motion regular can we give him castor oil? pls give me a reply at the earliest

M.D.( Pediatrics), DCH
Pediatrician,
Don' t worry about motion so long as it is soft and passing gas regularly. You need to start weaning after six months not earlier if weight gain is in normal range

My 3 and half months baby got vaccinated with pentavac 4 days back. But there is a hard swell, Abscess formation and reddish look around the vaccinated area. What to do and what may be the reason. Does this cause problem to the leg after growth.

Diploma in Child Health (DCH), MBBS
Pediatrician, Ghaziabad
Give baby some analgesic paracetamol drops 0.5 ml 4 5imes a day. Hardness will subside within 3 to 4 weeks. If abscess formation is there show the baby physically to child specialist.
