I have pain in my teeth. What is the solution for it. Should I take any pain killer? Or should I consult a dentist. Is there any temporary solution for it?

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist, Chennai
The type of treatment you have for toothache will depend on the cause of the pain, so your dentist will examine your mouth and may carry out an X-ray to try to identify the problem. • If your toothache is caused by tooth decay, your dentist will remove the decayed area and replace it with a filling. • If your toothache is caused by a loose or broken filling, the filling will be taken out, any decay will be removed and a new filling put in place. • If the pulp inside your tooth is infected, you may need root canal treatment. This procedure involves removing the infected pulp and then inserting a special type of filling to seal the tooth and prevent re-infection. • If your toothache can't be treated using these methods, or if your tooth is impacted (wedged between another tooth and your jaw), it may need to be removed.

Hello Doctor I am achal jain. I am 30 year old man and I have cavity and teeth bleeding problem for last 2 month what should I do please tell me. Thanks.

BDS
Dentist, Bangalore
For cavities you have to go for filling of teeth from dentist. Few advice to stop bleeding gums-- - visit to a dentist for professional cleaning once in a year - use a soft toothbrush -- and brush properly! brush your teeth for at least two minutes twice a day and after meals. Hard brushing can further damage the soft tissues of your mouth. - floss at least once a day and be sure to floss beyond the gum line to remove more plaque. - control bleeding by applying pressure to the area with a cold compress. - rinse with salt water to keep the area clean. - avoid mouthwashes that contain alcohol, which can dry out your mouth. - stay away from smoking and other tobacco products, which can aggravate bleeding gums.

My lips remain chapped always from last 12 years. and my corners of mouth are cracked from both sides that's too from last 12 years. Please suggest me.

BDS, MDS Prosthodontics
Dentist, Mumbai
You have most like a vitamin deficiency (B group and E) along with a fungal (Candidal) infection. Since your age is showing 90 years I am assuming you either have no teeth or very few teeth which results in something called 'loss of vertical dimension' that is face height decreases and saliva drooling occurs. So you need both dental and medical treatment for this condition. A prosthodontist such as myself can treat your problem well.

Early morning before brushing A bad smell from mouth is felt by me. I visually checked my mouth, No abnormalities are found when I felt that some thing is present around the upper part of neck then I made try for coming out and I got a white small piece (12 mm long and 4 mm dia. Approx ). Is It a sign of throat cancer? Please assist.

BDS
Dentist, Surat
Dear lybrate-user, Start brushing your teeth before bedtime. This may solve your half of the problems. That small white piece may be sputum (cough), If it comes every day in the morning, then visit your family doctor or general physician for further checkup. There is very less possibility of throat cancer, it may be because of the allergy, tonsillitis, throat infection, TB, Bronchitis, etc.

Visiting a dentist at regular intervals is a sign of taking good care of your oral hygiene and keeping tooth diseases at bay.

At night when I asleep, sometimes some liquid gets collected in my mouth during sleep which wakes me up from sleep ,as the result I have to get up and spit it out.

Although excessive saliva is not too common, there are a number of conditions that can cause it - some harmless, others more serious. It is possible that your saliva problems are just a result of the way you speak. Some people speak faster or slower than others, just as some people blink more often, breathe faster, or have a more rapid heartbeat. This may just be what's normal for you. Since it is negatively affecting your life, I suggest your problem can be ignored. However there are medical conditions that causes excessive salivation injection glycopyrrolate reduces secretions in the mouth, throat, airway, and stomach.

Drinking a cup of tea everyday is healthy for the teeth and gums as it contains high amounts of flouride and flavonoids which prevent harmful bacteria from sticking to the teeth.

I have done smile laser before 15 days. Everything is fine. Can I play badminton. And can I swim. Or for how many days precaution to be taken.

MD Ophthalmology, Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS)
Ophthalmologist, Bangalore
Hello! 2 weeks post SMILE LASIK you can play badminton and you can swim. But, it would be safer to avoid both for another 2 weeks in order to prevent injury and infection during the healing period. Having said that, its always best to re confirm with your surgeon.

Kindly consult an orthodontist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations (model study, full mouth & profile x-ray) & clinical examination to decide upon treatment. You may need fixed / removable braces. Requirements may depends on the age, complaint, duration of the treatment & affordability. Cost of cosmetic dentistry (braces) varies with dentist.

Carbohydrates and sugars feed dental plaque. - try an oral irrigation device, commonly known as a" water pick, to clear debris from around the gum line. - you may need deep cleaning along with surgical curettage or gum strengthening procedure. Use pepsodent tooth paste & gum paint for 2 to 3 weeks. Advance procedures can be done with laser.
