Finger brushes like these are made of soft silicone rubber. They are effective in maintaining oral hygiene of babies between 6 months of age till the first birthday. At first Birthday, change to a 'Baby brush.

You need this introduce one food at a time. Too many foods are very confusing for a year plus child. Handy foods like carrot sticks, cucumber sticks, murmura, namkeens, or banana are much easier for a child to handle.

My female baby doing liquid motion 12 Times In a day, so please give treatment. New born Baby is 11 days old.
If baby is on mothers milk and quantity of motion is less no worry. If baby is bottlefed and color of motion different motion test should be done and treated accordingly.

My baby is 2 and half month old. Weight is 4.5 kg. At birth his weight was 2.370. He was breastfeed. Should I need to wake him up at night for feed while he was sleeping or let him sleep until he wake up. In day time I feed him every 2-3 hours 70-100 ml. Is it the right amount or I need to increase?

That a good weight gain for your baby. Your breastfeed for every 2-3 hours is adequate. Do not wake your baby at night as sleep is equally important. It is better to feed only when the baby is in fully conscious state. Hence do not disturb the sleep. Most babies eventually cry or wakeup at night time when there stomach is empty and they sleep all day. But if in your case, baby is drinking all day and having sound sleep at niight, then thats not to be worried. You must consume minimum 3 glasses of milk per day and consume food for every 2-3 hrs. Along with your regular meals, include a fist of boiled peanuts or walnuts everyday or roasted gingely seeds in its laddu form or chutney form.

Are there any long-term effects associated with taking ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) medications? If so, what are they and what medications are implicated?

MBBS
General Physician, Mumbai
Use of stimulant decreases the symptoms to a much good effect and if we don't give stimulant medication there will be more of conduct disorder and progress in disease and for side effects we have to monitor the person and advice them accordingly.

M.Sc - Dietitics / Nutrition
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Anand
Colostrum

During the first two or three days after delivery, thick and yellowish fluid is secreted from the mammary gland. This differs from the regular milk and is called colostrum. It is secreted in small quantity of about 10 to 40 ml.

  • It is rich in protein.
  • The total fat content of colostrum is less than mature milk.
  • It has more amount of vitamin a and k.
  • The concentration of lactose is also less.
  • The levels of niacin, pantothenic acid, biotin and riboflavin are also low.
  • Vitamin c is secreted at about the same level as in mature milk.
  • Zinc content of colostrum is 20 mg/dl.
  • Where as mature milk has 2.6 mg/dl.

The composition of colostrum is:

Nutrients amount:

  • Energy: 58 kcal
  • Fat: 2.9 gm
  • Calcium: 31 mg
  • Phosphorus: 14 mg
  • Iron: 0.09 mg
  • Protein: 2.7 gm
  • Lactose: 5.3 gm
  • Carotene: 186 i. U.
  • Vitamin: 296 a. I. U.

My son is 4 years old and he sweats a lot on his head. How do I improve his vitd count naturally. Though he has a summer cut (hair cut) he sweats a lot only on his head. As you hv mentioned in your article that this is one of the symptoms of vitd deficiency, pl let me know how can I improve his vitd count in the body.

MBBS, Diploma in Child Health (DCH)
Pediatrician, Mangalore
During growth period, all children used get calium /vit. D3 deficiency, that causes excessive sweating of the body, especially over the head. Give calcium supplement and vit. D3. Allow the child to play under sun light also.
