You could continue the medication for vertigo for a few days and then visit your ENT again. Sometimes the Epleys manoeuvre has to be repeated.

My niece is suffering with tonsils so is it better to go through operation and remove it any chance of getting tonsils again after operation? Any diet to be followed after operation.

Tonsillectomy is indicated for recurring episodes of acute tonsillitis documented by a doctor. More than 4 episodes in one year needing antibiotics is a good indication for getting the tonsils removed. The surgeon will explain the diet post op.

If you have anosmia or loss of smell, we should get a CT Scan of your sinuses to assess why you are unable to smell. A lot of times a physical obstruction is identified which can be surgically corrected. I would not recommend taking oral steroids without prescription. They are harmful and have many side effects. Let your doctor decide the diagnosis and prescribe a cure. By taking medicine form google is dangerous and has serious side effects.

hi Mr Dinesh... I see that you are diagnosed with GERD...and you have been taking medications for that too.. but would like to suggest that life style modification ( sleeping after 3 hrs of meal, sleeping with a pillow and on left side) & diet restrictions like restricting spices from food specially chilly and less oily food, drinking less cups of tee is equally important. plse try to follow these for 15 days at least with medication. if your problem persists then change your medication or get an UPPER GI endoscopy done. thanks.

Hi Lybrate user, you can take a x-ray or endoscopy to know the exact reason. Eat small meals frequently instead of three large meals daily Avoid sticky foods, such as jam or peanut butter Avoid large pieces of food. Cut it to small and have it A lump of boiled rice can help if something like a fish bone is trapped in the esophagus.

Ear Infections - Common Reasons Behind It!

Ear Infections - Common Reasons Behind It!

Our ears are small in size, but ‘big’ in the work they do. Not only do they help us hear, but also help us maintain our body’s balance. They thus help us stand, walk, drive, you just name it.

Ears are also much bigger in size than they actually are. The part of the ear that we see on our head is only the external ear, there is a middle ear and an inner ear too, silently carrying out complex functions related to hearing and balance. The inner ear is the seat of balance. And this part is hit hard at the time of an ear infection.

Ear infections cause the Eustachian tubes – small tubes that connect the middle ear to the back of your throat – to become swollen and blocked due to excess mucus. As a result of this, fluid builds up and inflammation takes root in the middle ear, thereby causing pain.

Ear infections can be acute or chronic. Acute infections clear up in a few days, but chronic ones reoccur frequently. If not managed, chronic ear infections can cause permanent damage to the middle and inner ear.

Causes of Eustachian tube blockage are as follows:

  1. Allergies
  2. Sinus infection
  3. Cold
  4. Extreme production of mucus
  5. Smoking
  6. Infected adenoid, which is a tissue near your tonsils that traps harmful bacteria and viruses

There are a few risk factors associated with ear infections. It can be said that young children are more susceptible to these infections. This is because their Eustachian tubes are short and narrow. It has also been seen that infants who are bottle-fed have a higher incidence of ear infections than breastfed babies.

Other risk factors are:

  1. Changes in altitude
  2. Changes in climate
  3. Exposure to tobacco smoke
  4. Use of pacifiers

Symptoms of ear infections:

  1. Pain or discomfort inside the ear
  2. A prolonged feeling of pressure inside the ear
  3. Pus-like ear drainage
  4. Hearing loss

What is also important to know is that the symptoms of an ear infection come and go.

Symptoms can also occur in one or both ears. Chronic ear infection symptoms can be less noticeable than those of acute ear infections.

Hence, fever and ear ache should spur you to see a doctor. You should be extremely careful with babies younger than six months who have fever or ear infection symptoms.

Your doctor will diagnose an ear infection by checking if there is a draining of fluid from the middle ear, perforation in the eardrum or a collapsed eardrum.

Sometimes, ear infections can lead to the following serious complications:

  1. Hearing loss
  2. Speech or language delay in children
  3. An infection in a skull bone called mastoiditis
  4. Meningitis
  5. Ruptured ear drum

5 Myths About Nose Job!

5 Myths About Nose Job!

With nose job or rhinoplasty turning out to be an increasingly popular surgical procedure these days in India, potential patients are presented to a great deal of data, some real, some skeptical, and some downright false.

Here are 5 of the top myths busted:

Myth 1: The surgery is a fairly simple procedure Nose job is one of the most complex and challenging operations in plastic surgery. Not only must the nose be in symmetry with the face, but also every segment of the nose must be directly proportionate with all of the others.

Myth 2: Your nose can resemble any superstar's nose of your picking A prospective nose job patient ought to have practical desires. Every individual's face and visage is different. John Abraham's nose would not look great on each man, nor is it achievable. Similarly, Kareena Kapoor’s nose would not suit every woman, however becoming it is on her. In Rhinoplasty over expectation and unrealistic expectation is always a cause of dissatisfaction. It is impossible to have a nose like your favorite film star.

Myth 3: Rhinoplasty is mostly carried out under general anesthesia, which makes you unconscious during the whole experience. However, the anesthesia used is completely safe. In fact, for minor procedures, a nose job can even be performed under local anesthesia. Most patients who have undergone this surgery are healthy, and risks of long-term complications are exceptionally rare.

Myth 4: A second surgery is almost always required to get it right While a revision surgery can be a reality when going through a nose job (as high as 10-15% in a few studies), it ideally should be a one-time operation only. Technically, the newly constructed nose is one that’s designed for life. That aside, because of the complexities of the operation and the variability in each person’s anatomy, skin, and healing, on certain occasions a revision surgery becomes necessary. When it occasionally occurs, usually it’s for something relatively minor such as a small residual bump.

Myth 5: Surprisingly, minor yet high-quality rhinoplasty procedures is not as expensive compared to several other kinds of plastic/cosmetic surgery procedures.

Caution: Avoid Silicone Implants for a Nose Job as they not good and have long term complications as extrusion and displacement.
