My mother is aged 59 yrs. She seems to be suffering from arthritis. She complains of severe pain in joints of her fingers. She is not comfortable while sitting as her back does not allow to sit comfortably. No test done for arthritis. Kindly advise.

Hi Manoj, It is possible that your mother has rheumatoid arthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis is a serious disease which apart from causing pain in the joints (over the long term) can cause damage to the joints such that you are unable to use them even if there is no pain, damage to the lungs and heart ,etc. And hence needs to be treated proactively and completely not only ot avoid pain but also to prevent damage or complications to all these organs. This can be done best by a rheumatologist. If you let me know where you live I can give you a refernce of a nearby rheumatologist. You can contact me via my website www.Rheumatologybangalore.Com You can get more information regarding rheumatoid arthritis from the document below. My aunt underwent knee replacement surgery for both knees, now she is feeling burning sensation at feet. What will the reason for that.

The symptoms are suggestive of neuropathy or involvement of the nerves. This can be due to diabetes. It has nothing to do with the knee problem or the surgery. She needs to meet a neurologist who will help her get rid of this distressing symptom

Hi My mom is 60 and she is having knee pain since 3 or 4 years. So what option of treatment ? is the surgery is only easy and permanent cure ?

Has osteoarthritis. The diagnosis needs to confirmed. If in fact she has osteoarthritis then she needs to be assessed for comorbidities and needs to be put on an intensive exercise program with control of pain using safe pain modfiying medications instead of pain killers. This can be done best by a rheumatologist. The final option is surgery. Surgery is done by an orthopedician. Nowadays if surgery is done properly the risk of failure is < 5%. If you let me know where you live I can give you a reference of a nearby rheumatologist. You can contact me via my website www.Rheumatologybangalore.Com You can get more information regarding osteoarthritis from the document below.
