Rabies can be referred to as a form of the deadly virus which gets transmitted through the saliva of animals (who are infected by the rabies virus) like goats, bats, unvaccinated pet dogs and raccoons to the human body more often than not through bites or means of exposure to an open wound in your body. After getting into your body, the rabies virus transmits and subsequently infects the brain which leads to death.
Rabies symptoms occur immediately after getting infected by the virus. The early symptoms include weakness, headaches, and fever. In later stages, one might show symptoms of furious rabies which includes encephalitis, hallucination, hypersalivation, anxiety, and hydrophobia. Once a patient shows the aforementioned symptoms, the disease almost always turns out to be fatal.
If you have been bitten by a stray dog, it is recommended to get diagnosed by an infectious disease specialist as soon as possible. If it is known for sure that the animal is infected with rabies virus, then it is advisable to get a fast-acting shot of rabies immune globulin to prevent the chances of further complication.
In order to prevent rabies, it is recommended to get your pet animals vaccinated and prevent them from approaching stray animals.
