Hello lybrate-user, Forgetfulness is a very common symptom, especially while studying. However, the sooner you treat it, the better. You can opt for a homeopathic consultation and we can help you. Meanwhile you can start some brain-stimulating exercises like Memory games, crosswords and sudoku, which have been known to enhance memory. Regards.

1) maintain a regular sleep routine go to bed at the same time. Wake up at the same time. Ideally, your schedule will remain the same (+/- 20 minutes) every night of the week. A good sleep hygiene routine promotes healthy sleep and daytime alertness. 2) avoid sleeping during the daytime. It can disturb the normal pattern. 3) avoid caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol near bedtime. While alcohol may speed the onset of sleep, it creates problems in he second half of sleep. 4) exercise can promote good sleep. Exercise should be taken in the morning or late afternoon. Yoga, can be done before bed to help. 5) have a quiet, comfortable bedroom. Set your bedroom thermostat at a comfortable temperature. Generally, a little cooler is better than a little warmer. Turn off the tv and other extraneous noise that may disrupt sleep. Background'white noise' like a fan is ok. If your pets awaken you, keep them outside the bedroom. Your bedroom should be dark. Turn off bright lights. Have a comfortable mattress. 6) avoid heavy meals close to bedtime. 7) ensure adequate exposure to natural light. 8) avoid emotionally upsetting conversations and activities before trying to go to sleep. Do not think of, or bring your problems to bed. 9) stop using all your digital devices and stop looking at digital screens be it mobile phones or televisions at least 1 hour before the time you plan to sleep. Instead try reading a fiction book near bedtime so it makes you help relaxed and de-stressed. Sleep well live healthy and live longer. If you have tried all these and still have problems, please consult me for prescription medication.

My father expired last year. I have 8 years old son and husband is working in Merchant Navy working abroad like 6 months out of india and 3-4 months in india. Once my father expired then I was with my mother for 1 year in patna and this also resulted in discontinuing my kid education, however kid was still going to home tution. Now the thing is that as per the mutual agreement from my husband I took this 1 year to give moral support to my mother. Now I am back to my husband where we are staying i. E. HYDERABAD. So I still want to support my mother as she has responsibility of 1 more unmarried daughter. Regarding my family then 1 elder daughter with 3 kids settled in delhi and 1 younger daughter unmarried working in Patna and 1 younger brother working in Merchant Navy. So I want to support my Mother for 1 more year for which my husband is not accepting and also I told him that I will continue the kid education in patna. He is saying that I can go and support but I have to leave the kid so that he can stay here and take care of the kid for 1 year and I can come back and we both are emotionally attached that we do not want to take divorce. FYI - My mother is suffering from anxiety and depression and insomnia, hypertension, cholesterol and dyslipidemia. My husband wants that either I can bring my mother to hyderabad and can stay with me but this is not possible as my mom cannot leave her younger daughter alone. He also said that my younger sister can quit the job and take care of mother but we do not want to do that. Same thing for my brother to quit the job for 1 year and to stay with my mom but we do not want to do this. Also my elder sister is ready to come over patna and take care of my mom but my mom do not want to do this as she has 3 kids age 13 and 14 which will be difficult to manage bcoz of their education. THIS IS THE MATTER WHICH IS CAUSING STRESS ON OUR EVERYDAY LIFE AND THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT IT MAY END UP TO divorce. SO PLEASE HELP US.

Hi lybrate-user, I can understand that you would be in tremendous stress. But your husband's worries are also correct. You may tackle the situation like this that try to make your mother and your siblings understand your situation. You all can decide to take the responsibility of your mother turn by turn. That your mother can stay 3-4 months each with everyone if u. Your younger sister because she is working can stay in some working women's hostel and when your brother comes home during that period your mother can stay with your brother and sister in patna. This way she would also feel good and won't feel bad when she would be with you or your elder sister. Both the husbands of you both sisters also won't feel burdened with this system. So try to make it a team effort so that you get less stressed. Regards

Dear Sir/ Madam I am a 46 years old guy with ocd. I am experiencing a sinking, depressive feeling due to this. Kindly suggest me a allopathic, homeopathic medicine which can be taken over the counter. Regards

MD - Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Chennai
There are no OTC drugs for OCD. Consuming them OTC is againast law. Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a common mental health problem. Symptoms typically include recurring thoughts and repetitive actions in response to the recurring thoughts. A common example is recurring thoughts about germs and dirt, with a need to wash your hands repeatedly to "clean off the germs" However, there are many other examples. The usual treatments are cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant medicine, or both. Treatment often works well to reduce the symptoms and distress of OCD greatly. Consult a psychiatrist. All the best.

Hi Lybrate user, This is a very good question. Chronic untreated anxiety affects almost all the systems of the body be it neurological, psychological, immune, gastro intestinal, cardiovascular, orthopedic, genito urinary. More so the duration of untreated illness also signifies the prognosis, course and remission of this illness. You can get a lot of genuine articles online (read them with caution and on genuine source). Always better to visit a psychiatrist and get yourself evaluated.

CONCENTRATION TIPS Here’s some tips to get into a state of deep concentration where work / or studies flow easily so that you can do well in examinations/ and or do your work well. 1) Cut Off the Noise Getting into a state of concentration can take at least fifteen minutes. If you are getting distracted every five, you can’t possibly focus entirely on your work. Request that people don’t interrupt you when working on a big project. If you are required to answer phones and drop-in’s immediately, schedule work when the office is less busy. 2) Structure Your Environment The place you work can have an impact on your ability to focus. Try to locate yourself so you are facing potential distractions such as doors, phones or windows. This way you can take a glance to assess sounds that would otherwise break your focus. 3) Clarify Objectives Know what your goal is clearly before you start. If you aren’t sure what the end result is, the confusion will make it impossible to focus. 4) Divide Blobs. If you have a large project that needs work, clearly identify a path that you will use to get started working on it. If the sequence of actions isn’t obvious, it will be difficult to concentrate. Taking a few minutes to plan not only your end result, but the order you will complete any steps, can save hours in wasted thinking. 5) Know the Rules Get clear on what the guidelines are for the task ahead. What level of quality do you need? What standards do you need to follow? What constraints are there? If the rules aren’t clear from the outset, you will slip out of concentration as you ponder them later. 6) Set a Deadline Deadlines have both advantages and disadvantages when trying to force concentration. A deadline can make it easier to forget the non-essential and speed up your working time. If you give yourself only an hour to design a logo, you will keep it simple and avoid fiddling with extravagant designs. Time limits have disadvantages when they cause you to worry about the time you have left instead of the task itself. 7) Break down Roadblocks Roadblocks occur whenever you hit a tricky problem in your work. This can happen when you run out of ideas or your focus wavers. Break down roadblocks by brainstorming or planning on a piece of paper. Writing out your thought processes can keep you focused even if you might become frustrated. 8) Isolate Yourself Become a hermit and stay away from other people if you want to get work done. Unless your work is based on other people they will only break your focus. Create a private space and refuse to talk to anyone until your work is finished. Put a sign on your door to steer away drop-ins and don’t answer your phone. 9) Healthy Body, Sharper Mind What you put into your body affects the way you concentrate. Nobody would expect peak performance if they showed up drunk to work. But if you allow yourself to get chronic sleep deprivation, overuse stimulants like caffeine or eat dense, fatty foods your concentration will suffer. Try to cut out one of your unhealthy habits for just thirty days to see if there is a difference in your energy levels. I’ve found even small steps can create dramatic changes in my ability to focus. 10) Be Patient Before I write an article, I often sit at my desk for a fifteen or twenty minutes before I put finger on the keyboard. During this time I feel a strong urge to leave or do something else. But I know that if I am patient, I’ll stumble upon an idea to write about and enter a state of flow. Without a little patience, you can’t take advantage of flow when it rushed through you. If you need strong concentration I recommend periods of 90-120 minutes. Any less than that and you will waste too much time getting started before the flow can continue. More than this is possible to sustain focus, but you will probably benefit from a quick break. These are the general guidelines for concentration, studying well or doing your job. Regards.
