1. ब्राह्मी
यदि आपको आयुर्वेद के बारे में थोड़ी भी जानकारी होगी तो आप जानते होंगे कि ब्राह्मी का इस्तेमाल मस्तिष्क की क्षमता बढ़ाने में किया जाता है. ये भी विदित है कि नींद का जुड़ाव दिमाग से ही है. इसलिए ब्राह्मी के इस्तेमाल से अनिद्रा की बीमारी में आश्चर्यजनक फायदा देखने को मिलता है.
2. लैवेंडर
लैवेंडर का इस्तेमाल भी आयुर्वेद में कई तरह से बताया गया है. कई सारे शोधों में भी इसके अनेक गुणों की पहचान हुई है. इन शोधों में ये पाया गया है कि इसके इस्तेमाल से अनिद्रा जैसी बिमारी को दूर किया जा सकता है. खासकरके महिलाओं और युवाओं में इसका असर बेहतरीन देखा गया है.
3. जटामांसी
विशेष रूप से पर्वतीय क्षेत्रों में उगने वाले जटामांसी का इस्तेमाल तीव्र गंध वाले परफ्यूम बनाने में किया जाता है. लेकिन ऐसा पाया गया है कि मस्तिष्क और नाड़ी सम्बन्धी रोगों में भी ये बेहद प्रभावशाली साबित होता है. हलांकि इसके काम करने की गति थोड़ी कम होती है लेकिन काम सटीक है. इसके लिए आपको रात में सोने से एक घंटा पहले एक चम्‍मच जटामांसी की जड़ का चूर्ण ताजे पानी के साथ लेने से लाभ मिलता है.
4. शहद
अनिद्रा से निबटने के पारम्परिक तरीकों में से एक ये भी है कि आप इसके लिए दूध और शहद का सेवन करें. आपको बता दें कि दूध व शहद इन्सुलिन के स्त्राव को नियंत्रित करता है. इसके बाद ही ट्रिप्टोफेन का सही मात्रा में मस्तिष्क में स्त्राव होता है. फिर ट्रिप्टोफेन सिरोटोनिन मेंऔर सिरटोनिन, मेलेटोनिन के रूप में बदलकर मस्तिष्‍क को आराम पहुँचाने का काम करता है. फिर आपके नींद की बीमारी ठीक हो जाती है.
5. अश्वगंधा
अश्वगंधा की गिनती उन पौधों में होती है जिसकी जड़, पत्तियां और तना सभी का औषधीय इस्तेमाल किया जाता है. अश्वगंधा एक अच्छा वातशामक होने के कारण थकान का निवारण भी करता है. और ये तो सबको पता है कि थकान दूर होने से नींद बहुत अच्‍छी आती है. इसके अलावा एक उपाय ये भी है कि सर्पगंधा, अश्वगंधा और भांग तीनों की एक समान मात्रा का बारीक चूर्ण बनाकर रात में सोते वक्त 3-5 ग्राम मात्रा में यह चूर्ण पानी के साथ लें. इससे नींद बहुत अच्छी आती है.
6. शंखपुष्पी
शंख की आकृति वाले फुल होने के कारण इसको शंखपुष्पी का नाम दिया गया है. एक शक्तिशाली और प्रभावी मस्तिष्क टॉनिक के रूप में पहचान रखने वाले शंखपुष्पी में नाड़ियों को भी शक्ति प्रदान करने की भी विशेष क्षमता है. अनिद्रा की शिकायत होने पर इसकी पत्तियों का चूर्ण जीरा और दूध के साथ मिश्रित करके लेने से फायदा होता है.
7. तुलसी
तुलसी के फायदों से तो हम बचपन से ही परिचित होते हैं. जाहिर है इसमें तमाम औषधीय गुण भी पाए जाते हैं. लेकिन अनिद्रा में भी ये एक अचूक औषधि के रूप में काम करता है. नींद न आने पर तुलसी के पांच पत्तों को खाने और रात को सोते समय तकिए के आस-पास फैलाकर रखने से इसकी सुगंध से नींद आने लगती है. इसमें कोई झंझट भी नहीं है सबके यहाँ लोग गमलों में तुलसी का पौधा लगाए रहते हैं.
8. अलसी
रबी फसलों में अलसी का नाम प्रमुख है. इसमें ओमेगा-3 फैटी एसिड, प्रोटीन, फाइबर, लिगनेन, विटामिन बी, सेलेनियम, पोटेशियम, मैगनीशियम, जिंक आदि तत्व भरपूर होते हैं. चूँकि इसे फीलगुड फूड माना जाता है, क्योंकि अलसी से मन प्रसन्न रहता है. इसलिए इसे अनिद्रा की समस्‍या के लिए भी लाभकारी माना गया है. इसके अलावा कांसे की एक थाली में अलसी और एरण्‍ड के बीज का तेल घिसकर आंखों पर लेप लगाने से भी अनिद्रा की समस्‍या में लाभ मिलता है.
9. अजवायन
मसालों के रूप में पहचान रखने वाले आजवायन का औषधीय गुण भी भरपूर है. इसमें स्वास्थ्य, सौंदर्य, सुगंध तथा ऊर्जा प्रदान करने वाले तत्वों की प्रचुरता होती है. इसका इस्तेमाल हम अपने विभिन्न पकवानों में भी करते हैं. इसके अलावा इसका इस्‍तेमाल अनिद्रा की समस्‍या को दूर करने के लिए भी किया जाता है. इसके लिए आपको लगभग आधा चम्‍मच अजवायन सुबह-शाम लेना होगा इससे आपकी अनिद्रा की समस्या खत्म हो जाएगी.
10. सौंफ
मसालों के रूप में हम सौंफ के इस्तेमाल से भी परिचित हैं. इसमें भी बहुत सारे तत्व जैसे कि कैल्शियम, सोडियम, आयरन, पोटैशियम आदि शरीर को सेहतमंद रखने वाले तत्व पाए जाते हैं. नींद न आने की बिमारी के निजात में भी इसका लाभ मिलता है. इसके लिए आपको 10 ग्राम सौंफ को आधा लीटर पानी में उबालकर जब पानी आधा रह जाए तो उसमें थोड़ा सा नमक मिलाकर सुबह-शाम पीने से अनिद्रा दूर होगी.
11. मेहंदी
सुन्दरता को निखारने में या बालों को चमकाने में मेहंदी के इस्तेमाल से तो हम परिचित हैं. लेकिन मेहंदी हथेली और बालों की सुंदरता निखारने के साथ-साथ अनिद्रा को दूर करने में भी महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाती है. आपको बता दें कि मेहंदी के फूल उत्‍तेजक और हृदय  मजबूती प्रदान करने वाले होते हैं. वहीँ इसका काढ़ा हृदय को संरक्षण करने तथा नींद लाने के लिए उपयोग में लाया जाता है. अपने तकिये में मेंहदी के सूख फूलों को रखने से नींद अच्‍छी आती है.

गले में संक्रमण या खराश आजकल एक आम समस्या है. जब भी आपको 38 डीग्री सेंटीग्रेट से अधिक बुखार हो, गले या गर्दन में सुजन हो, निगलने में परेशानी हो या पेट दर्द हो तो आपके गले में संक्रमण हो सकता है. गले में खराश आने के कई कारण हो सकते हैं जैसे प्रदूषित हवा, बदलता मौसम, अत्यधिक ठन्डे पदार्थों का सेवन, प्रतिकूल खान-पान आदि. इसलिए अपने गले का ध्यान रखना महत्वपूर्ण है. गले में खराश से बचने और हो जाने पर इसे दूर करने के लिए कुछ घरेलु उपचार हम आपको बता रहे हैं.

1. गुनगुने पानी और नमक
गले में संक्रमण का सबसे पहला और आसान उपाय ये है कि आप गुनगुने पानी में हल्का नमक डालकर दिन में तीन बार गरारे करें. क्या होता है कि आपके गले में संक्रमण की वजह से सांस की झिल्ली की कोशिकाओं में सुजन आ जाती है और गरम पानी के गरारे से सुजन में कमी आने के कारण गले में खराश से राहत मिलती है. गुनगुने पानी में सिरका मिलाकर पिने से भी आराम मिलता है.
2. भाप से गले की सिकाई
कई बार आपके गले में खराश का कारण गले का सुखना भी हो सकता है. इसमें राहत के लिए आपको किसी गमले या इसी जैसे खुले मुंह वाले बर्तन में पानी खौला कर तौलिये या किसी बड़े कपड़े को सर पर रखकर भाप लें. दिन में दो बार ऐसा करने से आपके राहत मिलेगी.
3. अदरक और लौंग
एंटीबैक्टीरियल गुणों से भरपूर अदरक और लौंग गले में इन्फेक्शन से उबरने में काफी मदद करते हैं. एक लौंग मुंह में रखकर उसका रस धीरे-धीरे चुसें. एक कप पानी में अदरक डालकर उबालें और जब पानी गुनगुना रह जाए तो उसमें थोड़ा शहद मिलाकर इसे दिन में तीन बार पिएं. ये भी गले में संक्रमण से बचने का घरेलु उपाय है.
4. मुलेठी भी दूर करे गले का संक्रमण
मुलेठी औषधीय गुणों से भरपूर होता है. गले में खराश से बचने के लिए आप सोते समय एक ग्राम मुलेठी की छोटी सी गांठ मुख में रखकर कुछ देर चबाने से सुबह तक गला साफ़ होता है. इससे दर्द और सुजन दोनों दूर होता है.
5. काली मिर्च, बताशा और तुलसी
सभी घरों में आसानी से उपलब्ध बराबर मात्रा में काली मिर्च और बताशा मिलाकर रात में सोने से पहले धीरे-धीरे चबाएं. इसके अलावा एक कप पानी में 4-5 कालीमिर्च एवं तुलसी की पत्तियों को मिलाकर काढ़ा बनाकर पिने से भी राहत मिलती है. काली मिर्च के साथ दो बादाम पीसकर पिने से भी आराम मिलता है.
6. अंजीर और सुहागा
गले की खराश मिटाने के लिए उपलब्ध कई घरेलु तरीकों में एक ये भी है कि पानी में 5 अंजीर डालकर उबाल लें. फिर इसे छानकर पानी को सुबह-शाम गर्मा-गरम पिएं. इसके अलावा आधा ग्राम कच्चे सुहागे को भी मुंह में लेकर उसका रस चूसने से फायदा होता है.
7. मुनक्के से मिटे खराश
कई लोगों को अक्सर ही गले के संक्रमण से दो-चार होना पड़ता है. उन्हें जुकाम में एलर्जी के कारण भी गले में तकलीफ का सामना करना पड़ता है. ऐसे लोगों के लिए सबसे बढ़िया उपाय है कि वो सुबह शाम दोनों समय चार या पांच मुनक्का के दाने खूब चबाकर खाएं लेकिन ऊपर से पानी न पिएं. 10 दिन लगातार ऐसा करने से आपको राहत मिलेगा.
8. दूध का दूध, पानी का पानी
रात को सोने से पहले दूध और पानी की समान मात्रा मिलाकर पिने से भी लाभ मिलता है. ऐसा करने से गले में नमी आती है.
9. पालक
पालक के पत्तों को भी इसके लिए इस्तेमाल कर सकते हैं. इसके लिए आपको पालक के पत्तों को पीसकर इसकी पट्टी गले में बांधनी होगी. फिर इस पट्टी को 15-20 मिनट के बाद खोल दें.
10. सौंफ
गले के संक्रमण से सौंफ भी सुरक्षा प्रदान करता है. जब भी आपके गले में संक्रमण हो आप सुबह-सुबह चुटकी भर सौंफ मुंह में लेकर धीरे-धीरे चबाएं. इससे भी आराम मिलेगा.

Tooth sensitivity is something that affects a number of people. It is often caused by eating or drinking something hot, cold, sweet or acidic. Under normal conditions, the underlying dentin of the tooth (the layer that immediately surrounds the nerve) is covered by the enamel in the tooth crown, and the gums that surround the tooth. Over time, the enamel covering can get thinner, thus providing less protection. The gums can also recede over time, exposing the underlying root surface dentin.
The dentin contains a large numbers of pores or tubes that run from the outside of the tooth to the nerve in the center. When the dentin is exposed, these tubes can be stimulated by changes in temperature or certain foods. 

What causes it?

Exposure of the dentin can occur due to a number of factors. Some of the more common reasons are:

  • Gum recession due to age or improper tooth brushing.
  • Acidic beverages (such as soda) that cause enamel erosion and dentin exposure.
  • Tooth grinding : this may actually cause most or all of the teeth to feel sensitive.
  • Brushing with a very abrasive toothpaste, brushing incorrectly and/or brushing more than three times a day could result in a loss of enamel.
  • Gum disease, which can result in gum recession.
  • A chipped or fractured tooth may expose the dentin.

In addition, some dental treatments can cause sensitivity. Treatments such as such as teeth whitening, professional dental cleanings, having braces put on or getting a filling placed have been known to cause sensitivity during or after the procedure.

What can I do about it?

The first step in doing something about dental sensitivity is to find out what the cause is – a dental professional can help you with this.

If the sensitivity is due to a cavity, a restoration can be placed. If gum disease is the cause, the dental professional can perform a thorough cleaning of the area.

If the sensitivity is due to exposed dentin, there are a number of steps you can take, as can your dental professional, to help reduce the sensitivity. These can include:

  • At Home: 
    • Use a very soft bristle tooth brush, with low abrasive tooth paste.
    • Brush correctly and do not over brush.
    • Use a tooth paste specially formulated to soothe the nerve endings in the tooth.
    • Use a high concentration fluoride toothpaste (given to you by the dental professional) to strengthen the tooth surface.

  • Fluoride varnish can be applied to exposed areas, strengthening the enamel and dentin.
  • Fluoride foam or gel can be placed into a mouth tray; you then sit with this in your mouth for 3-5 minutes, providing the teeth with a high concentration of fluoride to strengthen the areas.
  • Bonding agent, the material used to stick tooth colored restorations to teeth, can be used to seal the dentin surface and provide a barrier to the stimuli that cause sensitivity.

Hi I 37 years old I am diabetic since 13 years. On insulin twice a day. I had angiogram 2 years ago with one blockage of 60%. I was a smoker but its been 2 years I have quit smoking completely. Now the medicines I am taking is metocard xl twice a day. clopitab A 75 once and tonact 40 once. My question is I feel good now but how long do I have to take these tablets. Ll.

Throughout life. Allopathy controls well, does not cure diabetes etc. My suggestion is to switch to herbals gradually, initially taking it parallel to allopathy with some gap. No interaction of herbs with your current medicines. However you can not take the risk of quitting allopathy abruptly. Diabetes is often referred to as diabetes mellitus by physicians, which is used for describing a group of metabolic-related diseases. Diabetic patients have high blood sugar (blood glucose) in the blood, the cause of which might be either the inadequate production of insulin or because the body is unable to use the insulin properly. Diabetes might also be a result of the combination of both.

Types of Diabetes- 

There are three types of diabetes.

  1. Type 1 diabetes which was formerly known as insulin-dependent diabetes or juvenile onset diabetes due to the fact that the symptoms are typically diagnosed in young children and children in their teens. Approximately 10%diabetic patients are Type 1 diabetic where the body is unable to produce insulin.
  2. Type 2 diabetes was also known as non-insulin-dependent diabetes or adult onset diabetes, as it occurs mostly in adults. Approximately 90%diabetic patients worldwide are Type 2 diabetic which occurs because the body is unable to produce the required amount of insulin for proper functioning. Overweight and obese people suffering from central obesity or abdominal obesity are more at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes than people who have a healthy body weight, as obesity forces the release of chemicals which may destabilize the cardiovascular and metabolic systems of the body. The risks of developing Type 2 diabetes also increases as one grows older.
  3. Another type of diabetes is gestational diabetes which mainly affects pregnant women who have high glucose levels in their blood. The bodies of these women are unable to produce the required amount of insulin to transport all the glucose to their cells leading to the progressive increase of glucose. Studies have revealed that women who have animal fat and cholesterol-rich diet before pregnancy are at more risk of developing this type of diabetes.

Symptoms
Symptoms of diabetes include excessive thirst, dehydration, increased urination and hunger. Symptoms may also include fatigue, skin problems, slow healing wounds, blurred vision and tingling in the feet.  

Solutions

  1. Patients who are afflicted with Type 1 diabetes will have to take insulin injections for life. Proper blood glucose levels have to be maintained throughout by following a strict diet and regular blood tests need to be carried out.
  2. Patients with Type 2 diabetes need to keep their weight in check. They are generally treated with tablets but sometimes insulin injections are recommended. These diabetic patients need to follow a healthy diet strictly, exercise regularly and keep monitoring their blood glucose levels. Another option for obese people to reduce symptoms is Bariatric surgery.
  3. While gestational diabetes can be controlled with proper diet and regular exercise, there are 10 - 20%of diabetics who will need medications to control blood-glucose. Undiagnosed and untreated gestational diabetes raises the risks of complications during childbirth and may result in a baby who is bigger than he / she should be.

Acute complications of diabetes may include hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia while chronic complications may include diseases of the blood vessels which could damage the eyes, nerves, kidneys and the heart. If you think you have symptoms which suggest diabetes, consulting a doctor at the earliest would be your best option.

Ask yourself whether you can infuse your strengths into your process of decision making. Try to test your strengths in all kinds of matters. Once you are sure of your strengths, you will be able to achieve your goals without hesitation.
  5. Pick one thing at a time: You should pick things and matters one at a time to focus on. If there are several things which bother you and add to your indecisiveness, try to handle them one by one. This way you will be able to give all your focus to one matter, and overcome your fears related to it. After that, move on to another fear.

Thyroid is a small butterfly shaped gland, which  is present at the lower frontal region of the neck, right beneath the voice box. It produces hormones which regulate metabolism (the breakdown of food by the body to convert it into energy). It even plays a pivotal role in boosting organ functions as well as in helping the body to sustain heat. However, too much of hormone production by the thyroid gland might yield structural problems, for instance, growth of nodules (abnormal tissue growth) or cysts (non-cancerous sac-like structures containing fluid) and swelling. Hence, a thyroid surgery is a must once these problems occur. The surgery, administered with general anesthesia, eliminates the thyroid gland either wholly or partially.

Why do you need surgery?

  1. The presence of tumors or nodules on one’s thyroid gland is one of the reasons why one should go for the surgery. Although most of the nodules are benign, few can be pre-cancerous or cancerous too. Also, those benign nodules can spell trouble, if they expand in size, thus obstructing the throat. They can be problematic as well if they cause the thyroid gland to overproduce hormones, giving rise to a condition known as hyperthyroidism.
  2. Hyperthyroidism can be corrected through surgery. It is often an outcome of Grave’s disease, an autoimmune disorder wherein the body misidentifies the thyroid gland as a foreign body, thereby creating antibodies to combat it. The thyroid gland gets inflamed in the process, resulting in the overproduction of hormones.
  3. Another reason is the enlargement or swelling up of the thyroid gland, termed as goiter. Similar to large nodules, goiter too can clog the throat, thus interfering with one’s breathing, speaking and eating.

Types of Surgery

  1. Lobectomy: This procedure calls for partial removal of the lobes when a nodule or an inflammation affects just half of the thyroid gland.
  2. Subtotal Thyroidectomy: Here, a small proportion of the thyroid tissue is left behind even after the elimination of the thyroid gland.
  3. Total Thyroidectomy: Through this procedure, the entire thyroid gland is taken out along with the thyroid tissue.

What Causes Eczema?  Ways to Prevent Eczema Outbreaks

A skin inflammation, eczema, also known as atopic eczema, refers to the changes that occur in the upper skin layer. How can you prevent an eczema outbreak?

It is very common for this skin condition to flare-up from time to time. But you can avoid such outbreaks or reduce their severity by following these very simple ways:

  1. Keep your skin well-moisturized so that it doesn't dry out causing further irritation.
  2. Sudden changes in temperature can cause the skin condition to break out. So, when the weather is hot, keep yourself cool but during cold weather, use a humidifier to prevent the skin from drying out.
  3. Keep sweating in check as it can cause an outbreak very easily.
  4. Avoid the use of harsh detergents and soaps, woolen materials as well as the consumption of foods that may lead to flare-ups.
