Spina bifida is part of a group of birth defects called neural tube defects. The neural tube is the embryonic structure that eventually develops into the baby's brain and spinal cord and the tissues that enclose them. The symptoms include:
• An abnormal tuft of hair
• A collection of fat
• A small dimple or birthmark
HOW IS SPINA BIFIDA DIAGNOSED?
Diagnosis is usually done through an X-ray or even scan to check for the abnormality and get a clearer picture.
HOW IS SPINA BIFIDA TREATED?
Treatment for Spina Bifida is carried out via neurosurgery. This happens if the disease is a bit extreme and problem-causing. If the symptoms are not very problematic then physical therapists and occupational therapists are consulted to guide on the same along with following healthy diets. Braces may be needed.
